Interesting how most of the public knew nothing of the years he was involved with her

Quick Historical Romance

This was a so-so read for me. I listened to the Audible version of this novella. The reader was good. The story was okay. I felt like there was quite a bit of repetition though in the story line in terms of plot. Character development was average and so was the plot.

Even presidents are human with feelings

This is a novella about FDR and Lucy and the illicit affair they shared for over 20 years. Lucy does marry but never forgets her time with Franklin and after her husband's death returns to Franklin to be his companion until his death.

Wasn't impressed.

I felt this book was poorly written. Franklin was a disappointment. Lucy was an impressionable young woman who hit on hard times and fall for a married man who had no intention of marrying her.

It was a sweet story which had a good message. Levi was a strong Christian man and Maria was taught Christian values by him. I did get a chuckle out of how when the woman narrating the book, would make her,voice would deepen when she would read his part.

When Maria realized just how much Levi loved her.

Lousy narration!

What is the deal with Faye Adele? Her narration gets worse rather than better, book after book. Viscount was pronounced vi-a-count, pool was pull, and literally dozens of other mispronounciations and stress errors, including pauses in the middle of words. Don't these writers listen to their Audible books before they are released? Ms Evans...this is your livelihood! Take some pride in it and DEMAND a re-recording. This time try to find someone who can speak English.

A beautiful audio full of Suspense , mystery, love , and Bronwin Inmagination . A must listen and read . Viscount Ruffas was looking for a trailter that was helping Napolean . He needs to find the traiter so he can clear his fathers name . Ruffas was looking for 12 years . Ruffas thinks that a smuggling ring can help. So he goes down to Kent looking for Dark Shadow . During his second day he sees a woman that is pinned and can't get away . He goes to help her and he starts to question her . The lady dosnt answer Ruffas questions . So Ruffas does what comes natural to hin he uses his body to entice her. Lol little does it entice both of them . The lady says that her name is Rea. Ruffas lookes all over the country side looking for a Rea . Ruffas later finds out the Rea is actually Rita a sister to a Baron . Rita has a few schemes up her sleeves also .

A Good Medieval

I read and listened to this on KU. I actually bought this book years ago but to be honest I didn't remember it at all. The h is a strong supporter of the the now deceased King Richard. Henry Tudor is to be king as we start the book and the H, a Welsh knight loyal to Henry is sent to fetch the h from her home as she's to become a ward of the new king. There is a lovely interaction between the main characters at the start of the book. The h is feisty and doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut so there are a few run ins right from the beginning. We see that the H has a softer side and I think it was clever that the author showed us this side early on because later I wanted to throw my Kindle at him:) The story weaves a lot of history into the story but I was never overwhelmed by it. The h eventually gets to court and back into the company of Elizabeth as one of her ladies in waiting. This is the woman who is to be the king's wife. I really disliked her and it's interesting that the author chose to develop her character in this way, seeing as she was a real person. I'm not going to say anymore because if you like medieval romances then this is a good one.

Just a note on the audio as I mostly listened to this book, the reader kept saying grimace/grimaced in a way that rhymed with "face". I found it quite off-putting as the words are used frequently throughout the book.

Great history

Part way through the book I needed to look up the English kings to see who all the people were. After that I understood more about the fighting and the reasons for the marriages commanded by the King. Throughout the book it made me see more and more that the women had a value in political relationships and were used as pawns being kept in enemy homes. At the same time girls were sent away by the family to be servants to older noble women and not really cared for by anyone. So unless you were honor bound not to harm someone from your family you would not attack a place were your sister was housed. Somehow it worked.

Walked into This Book by Mistake

This is my first reading of Amanda Scott, and while it seemed the historical elements were well researched, ultimately the novel seemed much more a romance novel.

What makes Scott's writing so great is the description of the times

Veronica Scott is one of my faves. I'm not into historical romances, but her excellence as a writer overcomes my prejudice of the genre. I've read these Gods of Egypt books out of order and it's not a problem, they're definitely standalone. What makes Scott's writing so great is the description of the times, environment, people, coupled with a great thriller plot line. I must admit that it took me a few chapters to warm up to the heroine (she was a bit too haughty towards the hero at first), hence taking off one star. Anyway - highly recommend this book, the series and Scott's Sci-Fi Sectors series.

Hot Tattooed Hero, Real Egyptian Gods

4.5 stars. In ancient Egypt, the gods are real. They can take over a human's body, or they can form from mist, and they DO have power.

Lady Tiya is from an ancient line of people bound to the service of the goddess Nephthys. Since a bizarre ruler has taken over the Viper Nome (a kind of province), the only hope of the gods for the future of Egypt is to sneak in, using Lady Tiya's body, and to use her - and her bodyguard, Khenet, to defeat the threat, even if the most likely outcome is the death of both Khenet and Tiya.

Along the journey down (up?) the Nile, Khenet and Tiya fall in love. While they recognize the need to defeat the Normarch of the Viper Nome, even if it costs their own lives. Not surprisingly, they'd prefer to live, and love.

Khenet is a not-untypical romance alpha male, complete with sexy bod and even tattoos, but he's also tender and considerate to a girl with a migraine. Tiya is beautiful, brave, smart and resourceful without going all Lara Croft action heroine. She has her own ways of being heroic, which I appreciated.

Love the coming-to-life of goddesses/gods Nephthys (no, I never heard of her before, either), Isis, and Horus. The ship cat on the Water Horse. The danger of crocodiles, and the scent of lotus flower. This novella really transports the reader to a world not frequently visited, in romance or other fiction.

Amazing!

Lacked Enchantment

This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I am sure some might enjoy the book. However, it was not very well written in my opinion..Maybe there should have been more research done by the writer.Then again, maybe there is not enough information on the topic to develop an interesting plot Last, the. theme, unfortunately. did not reflect much knowledge of Christianity or black souls in that time period as I have learned from other literary sources.

What could Vanessa Carvo have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Frankly, I enjoy multiple dimensions of characters as well as plots with interesting twist..Add some mystery or drama;even If it is Christian fiction.

I would be willing to listen to another performance because a performance can be limited by the material,,budget and time you are given.

As an editor, I would have trashed the project, until I had a better product. Furthermore,, I cannot think of anything right that would have cut. Besides its been a while and the material did not affect me.as something I wanted to remember

An epic story of awe

The detail, the beautiful narration, the emotions and passions, the battles...It took me three days to get through 17 hours of drama, but man was it worth it. I am overwhelmed with the effort it had to take both for the author and the narrator to create this masterpiece. It was extraordinary and authentic in all ways.

DAWNFLIGHT does for Guinevere (Gyanhumara) what Marion Zimmer Bradley's MISTS OF AVALON did for Morgan le Fay: it rehabilitates the character from centuries of bad press and delivers a plausible and historically accurate account while remaining faithful to the core legends and mythology.

What does Dorothy Dickson bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Dorothy Dickson's delightful native Scots accent marvelously enhances Gyan's viewpoint sections, and those of her clansmen, and her vocal choices for Arthur and the other characters bring the story to life in ways I had never dreamed possible. And her pronunciation of the foreign terms and names is absolutely indispensable to the experience.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It is difficult to select just one moment! Though the conclusion to Chapter 29 does come to mind... ;-)

Fascinating Time Travel

Carl and Beth decide to leave the hustle and bustle of the city for a weekend escape to their cabin retreat in the Catskills. What begins as a romantic getaway for the married couple soon turns into a nightmare when they realize they have been thrust into the pastâway into the past, during the Revolutionary War. Will they be able to find their way back to the present day, or are they doomed to live in the past?

I thought this was an extremely fascinating premise for a story, and it really allowed for my imagination to run free. I asked questions to myself such as, âHow would I react if I were in that situation?â I must say Carl and Beth handled it well, but it was obvious to me Carl was the rock in the relationship!

What I found most impressive was Robinâs attention to detail. I could imagine every rock and every blade of grass, I once again found myself feeling like a voyeur on the inside of the story. She also did a phenomenal job of conveying the kaleidoscope of emotions this couple went through. The time period they were thrown into, I thought was perfect. First off they are in a time of war; secondly the couple had no modern conveniences. Although Robins probably did not mean for it to be funny, I got a chuckle when Beth got distraught over the lack of bathroom facilities!

When readers hear the words paranormal books, the mind usually goes straight to creatures and things that go bump in the night. The fact that this was different from what I normally read was a refreshing change.

Outside That Door takes readers on an adventurous trip back through the sands of time, and Robins made it a fascinating ride!

Exciting Tale

All Beth and Carl wanted was a little weekend R&R in the mountains. They never expected to be transported through time, having all traces of modern civilization vanish from the Earth. By some unknown means, they are sent back in time to the years of the Revolutionary War.

This is an exciting tale that is full of suspense. The characters' emotions are quite real, and their bewilderment and fear comes shining through. I enjoyed having two ordinary people thrust into a very unordinary situation.

The story weighs down a bit two thirds of the way through. Our couple has encountered mostly good people so far, with a few suspenseful moments thrown in. Here we see them doing mundane farm activities and going off on several hunting trips as they await the person who may be able to help them out of their predicament.

I was disappointed that the people from the past spoke as if they were from our own time period. I would have felt more immersed in the situation if the people from the 1770's spoke as if they were from that time period.
