    Publisher's Summary:
In a war room in Washington, William Tecumseh Sherman and General Robert E. Lee huddle together and plan their next, joint military operation. In the jungles of Mexico, Ulysses S. Grant is locked in brutal combat with the best of the British Army. And in the heart of the new American South a fragile peace is threatened...
In the dazzling alternate history of Harry Harrison, this is the world as it stands in 1863. Just three years before, a titanic Civil War loomed in America. But an incident involving a British ship and two Confederate spies changed everything. As Abraham Lincoln defied Britain's Lord Palmerston, tensions between the two nations boiled over and Her Majesty's Navy unleashed an attack on American soil aimed at bolstering the Confederate cause. The results were catastrophic.
A stunned North and South put aside their differences and a new kind of war erupted, with Americans fighting side by side against the British on two fronts: in the South and on the Canadian border. Now, Britain has been defeated and America is struggling to keep its union together until another blow is struck. It comes from Mexico, where elite units of Her Majesty's Army including the famed Gurkha fighters are massing for a possible attack through Texas.
Into the gauntlet, Lincoln sends his chosen angel of death, General Grant. But the weary president knows that two centuries of British power will not be ended with a single battle. So his top soldiers, including Lee and Sherman, plan the most daring naval invasion ever launched: an assault on British soil itself. And in a secret that must be protected by an underground army of spies and secret agents, the U.S. will invade the Emerald Isle to set the Irish free at last. Filled with real characters on both sides of the conflict, Stars and Stripes in Peril is the new masterwork from one of our most provocative authors.

    Terrific alternate history
This is one of the better books I have found this year. I am really sorry to find that the sequels have not yet been produced. A terrific alternate history of the Civil War in which the British jump into our family feud on the Southern side, it grabs your attention and holds on for the entire story. Normally I don;t buy book number one of any series until the entire series is available. This time I grabbed this one because it looked really interesting. British troops attack from Canada while the English navy tries for a close blockade. However, it looks like English plans will come to grief. Get this one and wait with me until they make books two through ? come along. You won't be sorry!
    Next book?
Would you listen to Stars & Stripes Forever again? Why?
I love this series. When is the next book coming out?
What other book might you compare Stars & Stripes Forever to and why?
The next two books in the series.
    Any additional comments?
    Need next book.
    Took a lot of liberties
Some factual errors made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story. Some political aspects of the story dragged out while other important plot lines were glossed over.

Title: Evolution (The Divine Book 5)
    Author: M.R. Forbes
    Narrator: Jeff Hays
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 51 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-13-15
    Publisher: Quirky Algorithms
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 160 votes
Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
His name is Landon Hamilton, but to the angels and demons wrestling for control of our world hes known simply as diuscrucis. He is the balancer, the great equalizer, a once mortal and former god who toes the line between good and evil to prevent the end of days...
In New York, a demon is slaughtering coeds at campuses around the city, taking the form of its victims and vanishing without a trace. At the same time in Nevada, a scientist with his own inexplicable supernatural talent has been spotted consorting with angels, working with them on a secret project that bridges the gap between science and faith.
While the two events appear unrelated on the surface, it isnt long before Landons investigation leads him to one startling conclusion: the war between Heaven and Hell is evolving faster than he could have imagined, and the survival of mankind depends on his ability to make some of the hardest choices of his afterlife.
Enemies become allies and allies become enemies in this breakneck paced, action-packed mashup of urban fantasy, religious mythology, and pure adventure that are characteristic of the popular Divine series.
NOTE FOR NEW READERS: Evolution is the first book in the Escalation cycle, the second story arc centered around Landon Hamilton. While it is recommended to read all of the Divine books in order, it is possible to start with Evolution and return to Balance to fill in more of Landons backstory. The choice is yours!

    Becoming repetitive and tedious
I have, regrettably, lost interest in the series. I very much enjoyed Forbes 1st 3 book installments, I started to become less enthusiastic starting with book 4; even though I still found it a worthy installment.
In Evolution, while the fight for humankind continues with newer and different enemies, it also casts off many of the original endearing characters (except for cameo appearances) and instead brings on newer ones. Regrettably, these newer characters aren't as interesting as the earlier ones nor is the depth of their backstory.
Jeff Hays does a excellent job in narrating the series, including adding some periodic sound effects that I've not heard in other audiobooks. They aren't often but when they occur, they do enhance to effect of the particular passage being recited.
    {spoiler alert}
He found another new love interest candidate but the poor schmuck still doesn't know how to close the deal. I mean, seriously!?
    perfect narration
love it. Kept my attention all the way. Narration was awesome, perfect, and like I could see the story around me.
    Best book yet!
Jeff does another great reading, looking forward to the next one!
Book 5 picks up where 4 left off but has a much better conclusion.
    Nailed it again!
Would you listen to Evolution (The Divine Book 5) again? Why?
I truly enjoy this series! Every book has been every entertaining and Evolution is no different. I always find myself wanting the books to be longer for my own selfish reasons!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I would have to say Landon! He's this guy with god like powers yet he is like us. He struggles to always do the right thing and to be human when he is so much more than human. He is a noble guy, but I think I would have kept a little more "juice" for myself!
    I expected so much more...
I struggled to complete this narrative, and the first chapter had such fantastic potential.

As business falters in the wake of the murders, the shady owner of an illegal gambling hall hires a ragtag group of mercenaries and adventurers to find the killer and end his reign of terror. Among these mercenaries are the trollkin bounty hunter Gardek Stonebrow, the enterprising mechanik and soldier Colbie Sterling, the investigator and arcanist Eilish Garrity, and the skulking alchemist and thief Milo Boggs.
Together, these four must work to overcome their differences, track down a killer, and end the murder in Corvis before one of their own becomes the next victim.

    This was really well done
Murder in Corvis follows the exploits of what is basically a tribe of odd balls who are thrown together to solve a murder. I really liked this story War Machine is starting to suffer from the fact that their books are to short and simple. They could really make the world deep if they undertook the books with a serious eye towards making great stories instead of fun romps. I really hope they get some serious authors on the job soon.
    awesome.
it's a great glimpse into the world of the iron kingdoms. The Black River irregulars are an awesome band of Misfits
    Good
Very good book following four unlikely companions in their hunt for a slasher murdere in the streets os corvus
    Light, fun, entertainment
I enjoyed this setting, but sometimes the date is very mixed. This was a fun mystery and a fun group of characters. I'd love to see more of the Black Water Irregulars in the future...
    Disappointing
I was expecting the same quality of writing as other Warmachine book s, but was disappointed. Very predictable

    Love this series
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It's not the Classic hot romantic vampire book. The main character is more a real person finding her way around her new life. And it's not all happiness and good.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Sense?
In the beginning of the book. When they are trying to bring her back to life.

What other book might you compare Blood Sense to and why?
Chicagoland Vampires because both protagonists are females who where turned against their will but came out on top in the end.
    Which scene was your favorite?
When Lissa finally starts to assert herself on the road to becoming her own woman. I also love the way she fights
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Are you kidding me why do you think I've lost count on how many times I've read it let alone listen to it? I love it especially books 3 - 10. I haven't laughed & cried this much in a long time. I love it!!!!!!!!
    Any additional comments?
Yeah, hurry up and put the rest of the books on audio & don't forget the sequels too like the High Demon Series, the God Wars series and the Saa Thalarr series, PLEASE :)
    More
loved it, why aren't the other books in this series in audio? ready to start the next book.
    Awesome!
What does Traci Odom bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I had read the book previously. But hearing it with all the emotion pouring through Ms Odom's voice made it live spectacularly!
    I adore Connie Suttle!
Connie Suttle has the ability to put a character into a horrific situation then reward that person with a fantastic superpower. I absolutely love this super heroine and the men she is involved with are just a bonus!. MORE, MORE, MORE! Traci Odom you rock!

    WELL DONE! A STRONG HEROINE.
Very enjoyable. Eleanor has guts. Her determination to save her husband is commendable. Although she have many enemies, she have many allies too. I like the captain too. He is romantically inclined towards her and helped her find the mysterious temple. All in all a delightful story. I hope book four will be published soon.

    Poignant
It's strange to give an audiobook top scores when I'm not 100% sure I liked the story. It went in dark directions at times, I'm not sure why the story had to play out the way it did. However, it beautifully captured the mixture of joy and torment a person can experience in a lifetime (as demonstrated by the two mother figures); the fog that can settle over some who never find their way out and how this does not invalidate the love they have with those they leave behind. It explores the fragility of the human experience but the externality of the love shared in a lifetime, however long or short. There are moments in this book so poignant that I was brought to tears. While there were parts of the story that were left unexplored (at least to me), I suppose even this parallels life itself, which can be unexpectedly cut short. It reminds us to ask whether we are fully living each day to its fullest.
    Two Dimensional Soap Opera
This was a potentially interesting plot that fell flat with a very contrived and soap- opera-ish tone to it. The characters were barely sketched out and the drama was
contrived. it's not the worst book I've ever listened to but I wouldn't recommend it because there are so many better books out there. Mediocre.
Not what I thought it would be
What disappointed you about The Wonder of All Things?
No good or loving father would allow his daughter's health to be put in danger over and over. The ending was just as bad, it alludes but.......
There were good characters with good relationships with other characters. The best relationship is Ava and Wash.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I have not found any lately that I would rave about so maybe another genre. I like historical history with some paranormal and romance mixed in, hard to find.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The performance was good. She did all the characters well and with the right inflection etcetera.

    Members Reviews:
AN EMOTIONALLY CHARGED & HIGHLY ADDICTIVE LISTEN
Betrayal certainly is the name of the game in this bitter-sweet love story...... your lover, your friends and the biggest betrayal of them all your Brother. Saint (aka Declan) has loved only one woman and the pain of her betrayal has left him a moody disliked s.o.a.b. even decades later. His life is now in danger as the Archons have made him the next S.O.N. to be eliminated and it's up to Solenne to protect him but they have a heartbreaking history which is slowly revealed in flashbacks and conversations.
There is always so much to these books sub plots, the building war with the Archons, twists, surprises, revelations, a hot love story and, in this case, betrayal. It's not action packed but rather emotionally packed and, as the layers of deceit are finally peeled away, what's left is a very romantic but tragic love story. There are other Sons as well as more secondary characters, some vamps are staked and one has come back from the dead, the further deciphering of the Prophecy has given the Sons a few extra clues and Saint, well can he finally find peace, forgiveness and love.
Told from dual P.O.V's and the narrator did a great job with the voices BUT the narrative parts got slower and quieter until they became almost just a whisper. Could just pass as a stand-alone but certain facts, histories, characters and events would be lost.
Worth a credit? This series is building and building into a very imaginative saga as eight Sons try to understand and fulfil an old Prophecy, fight an evil ever growing threat, try to stay alive and, of course, fall in love..... but there's never quite a HEA ending because the good v evil battle is yet to be fought. As a PNR junkie this, along with some passionate sex scenes, ticked all my boxes so YES very creditworthy.
