  • Love on Every Breath
Lama Palden Drolma joins Monique Chapman to talk about her new book Love on Every Breath: Tonglen Meditation for Transforming Pain into Joy
Love on Every Breath: Tonglen Meditation for Transforming Pain into Joy introduces readers to a profound, ancient meditation that has been practiced in isolated mountain retreats in the Himalayas for centuries, which is now available to the modern world.

This ancient Tibetan Buddist meditation combines breath, awareness, imagination, and an energetic transformation process. Lama Palden Drolma has been practicing Tonglen meditation for over forty years and teaching it over thirty. “The meditation brings all these components together in a powerful way in order to open our hearts, to reveal and cultivate our kindness, love, compassion, and wisdom.”

The complete “Love on Every Breath” meditation consists of eight steps and is done as a sitting practice that takes forty-five minutes to an hour from start to finish, but the practice is highly adaptable and can be done “on-the-spot” in daily life as well as on the cushion. Lama Palden Droma provides instructions for bothe in Love on Every Breath. She also provides a “non-Buddhist” variation for people from other traditions that can be easily adapted for the non-religious or for those of different religions.

    We Talk about

    How Tonglen meditation works
    The benefits of Tonglen Meditation
    The heart-opening process
The importance of structured eye placement and posture enhancing your experience
The shadow side and Tonglen meditation
    The two truths
    The importance of awareness
    The creative meditation practice
    Self-love
    The subtle body
The purpose of Love on Every Breath Meditation –
“Is to cultivate our love and compassion, to transform and liberate our heart,” writes Lama Palden. When we come from a place of love, everything shifts for us. This book gives you the tools to transform and empower yourself and come to a place of creative engaged freedom.

    Lama Palden Drolma

  • From Suffering to Peace
Author Mark Coleman talks about his new book From Suffering to Peace: The True Promise of Mindfulness

Like yoga and meditation before it, mindfulness seems to be having its moment in the spotlight. It has become the buzzword in everything from medicine, the military, and education, to sports, prisons, and therapy. This hype had reached the point where it is easy to lose sight of what it can actually offer.

When Buddha first taught mindfulness about 2600 years ago in North India, he likely had no idea how his teachings, which offered a vehicle for ending suffering and finding peace, would spread around the world in the twenty-first century. While the way of mindfulness is being taught and developed in therapy offices, hospitals, classrooms, and boardrooms may differ from the scope of his original intent, mindfulness practice today is transforming tens of millions of lives all over the world.

    We Talk about

    What are intuition and mindfulness
    Embodies awareness
    Meeting aging with kind awareness
    Embracing death’s invitation
    Releasing self-judgment
    Mindfulness defined
    Main benefits of mindfulness
    The judging mind
    The comparing mind
    Freedom from attachment
    The outcome of dissatisfaction
    Sympathetic joy
    Unconscious bias

Mark Coleman is the author of From Suffering to Peace, Make Peace with Your Mind, and Awake in the Wild. He is the founder of the Mindfulness Institute and has an MS in clinical psychology. Mark has guided students on five continents as a corporate consultant, counselor, meditation teacher, and wilderness guide. He lives in Northern California markcoleman.org
