    Life's Long... But Short!
A Great Page Turner. I found this novel to be very entertaining. If you like "tall tales" about the power of "seers, soothsayers or clairvoyants" dead or alive, then you will enjoy this book. Of course, I had to suspend my powers of disbelief to the maximum, but I enjoy stories that entertain and I must say that this story was entertaining. It is set in the South and as most of us know, southern Black folks have a way of speaking that may be annoying to some because they use a lot of "sayings" and "cliches" and this book uses cliches up the yang-yang!. Nevertheless, this was a page turner for me. The story is about how dead great-great grandmother is able to help and guide her grandchild and her great-great grandchildren through the use of her powers as a "seer." The back stories are good too... There are about two or three love stories with only one or two serious but appropriate love scenes. The story is written from three different generations points of view. The author did a great job of developing each generation's story in a way that it was easy to follow.
The narrator did a good job varying the voices of characters. He was able to give believable enough tones to each character and he didn't need use a southern accent because the influence of the southern words and sayings were enough.

Amazon Headline: Loving the Past and the Present
Ive been keeping up with this author since 2011 I started my journey with Unexpected Interruptions and kept it going from there. These characters have truly become special to me. This is a large clan and sometimes its a little difficult to keep it straight. Dont believe that it has anything to do with the authors writing because it doesnt. I still have to ask my sister how is he/she related to us (smile)
I was blessed a few years ago to be part of a community called A Chapter a Month. While in this community this is where I got to know so much about the lives of the Small family, at the helm is Grandma Allene (Isaiah mother).
The next generation was started by Isaiah and his wife Henrietta Small who gave birth to John, Billy and Phyllis.

    Language: English
    Release date: 02-24-14
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 19 votes
    Genres: Fiction, African-American
    Publisher's Summary:
A stunning debut novel of two girls raised in hardship, separated by fortune, and reunited through tragedy.
Fourteen-year-old Audrey Martin, with her Poindexter glasses and her head humming the 3/4 meter of gospel music, knows she'll never get out of Kentucky - but when her fingers touch the piano keys, the whole church trembles. Her best friend, Caroline, daydreams about Hollywood stardom, but both girls feel destined to languish in a slow-moving stopover town in Montgomery County.
That is, until chance intervenes and a booking agent offers Audrey a ticket to join the booming jazz scene in Harlem - an offer she can't resist, not even for Caroline. And in New York City the music never stops. Audrey flirts with love and takes the stage at the Apollo, with its fast-dancing crowds and blinding lights. But fortunes can turn fast in the city - young talent means tough competition, and for Audrey failure is always one step away. Meanwhile, Caroline sinks into the quiet anguish of a Black woman in a backwards country, where her ambitions and desires only slip further out of reach.
Jacinda Townsend's remarkable first novel is a coming-of-age story made at once gripping and poignant by the wild energy of the Jazz Era and the stark realities of segregation. Marrying musical prose with lyric vernacular, Saint Monkey delivers a stirring portrait of American storytelling and marks the appearance of an auspicious new voice in literary fiction.

I wanted to like this book, but....
What disappointed you about Saint Monkey?
This book was more or less like listening to two strangers talk to you about other strangers for 12 hours. The story-telling aspect missed the mark for me. I expected much more excitement. The story would go on and on about the most mundane things. Even the dramatic scenes were pretty lackluster.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jacinda Townsend again?
I'm not sure.... I may give her another chance.
What does Allyson Johnson bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She did a good job acting out the story and bringing out each character's unique personality.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I liked the characters. The author did an excellent job highlighting their internal conflicts, dreams, and insecurities. Also, it was well written. Perhaps I may have liked this book more if I read the print version instead.
    Magnetic!
The story was at first difficult to follow, but I was drawn into the plot and eager to learn more about the vivid characters and their complicated relationships.

An Updated Soap Opera ~ But Very Entertaining
My favorites to read are usually Mysteries and Legal Thrillers. I chose this novel based on the reviews and I needed a break from my usual. This novel really held my attention straight through because there was drama (daddy-mama drama and who's sleeping with who) galore! I felt well entertained even though I kept saying aloud "don't do it! are you crazy!" so you kinda knew from early on that things are not going to workout well for the central protagonist. I will criticize the author here because I don't think the central protagonist was developed well enough so that we could really care about her or to root for her. She kept repeating the same mistake and continued to have the excuse of "I made a mistake; it was just a mistake." I can accept making the same mistake over and over when the circumstances are different and you just couldn't see it coming. But to repeatedly make the same mistake in the same way with the same circumstances makes me think that you are just plain stupid.
But again, the story held my attention and I had a few good laughs as well. Pretty much every character - the major and the minor players - had plenty of drama that elevated this story to a good entertaining read. Not to say too much, but the novel had a bit of everything from murder, pedophilia and the resulting mental health issues, to plain ole infidelity. The best scene that I liked was between Gabe and his father. Like I said, there is a lot of drama here, even a reading of a Will with an unexpected outcome!
The narrators were good but it took a minute to adjust my ear to one of the male narrators. His voice had a choppy and overly aggressive tone, but I overcame my bias and quickly started to enjoy his voice.
    Never got to a point
Everything was as expected. No twists, no turns. Just like waiting for the clothes in the dryer. You knew they would finish, just a matter of when.
    I love this book!
Would you listen to Tell Me No Lies again? Why?
Yes, I would definitely listen to this again.

    love the book
After reading the 1st book in the series i have quickly became a fan. i love that the books so far have all been unpredictable and suspenseful. i love it
    Main Character is DUMB!!!
I hate how dumb she is. Shes weak and do too many DUMB things. The book sounds like she needs a therapist rather than her being the help for others. I HATE HER PERSONALITY BUILD!!! DUMB
    good book
enjoyed the book, looking forward to the next Sienna St James series book, thumbs up
    struggled to finish it
I found storyline farfetched scattered and
unrealistic the story was not captivating it was aggravating however it was narrated well; but a well enacted bad story is still what it is
    Mysterious and Suspenseful Tale
What did you love best about Without Faith?
The mystery about the summons to the pizzeria.
What did you like best about this story?
    The suspense of finding Roman.
Have you listened to any of Patricia R. Floyds other performances before? How does this one compare?
Bravo performance just like the first one. Switching back and forth between characters seems laborious. Don't know how you do it!
If you could rename Without Faith, what would you call it?
    "Richard, No You Di'int!!"
    Any additional comments?
Looking forward to the 3rd and 4th!

Would you try another book from Blake Karrington and/or Charles E. Williams?
!I wouldn't try another book narrated by Charles E. williams
If youve listened to books by Blake Karrington before, how does this one compare?
This was my first book by Blake
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Charles E. Williams?
    Cary Heit or Ezra Knight
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from God Forgives?
    none
    Any additional comments?
The narrator took so much away from the book and the plot that it was painful listening to this book. Williams is not a good narrator! If you can stomach the narration then this is a overall good book.
    More then I imaged
I enjoyed listening to this book had me sitting on edge can't to hear the concluding
    Narration
Good story line but Cary is a better narrator . I am going to read the next book because I want see how Chez survives.
One of the worst reads ever!
Horrible story and the narrator was worse. I hope he never reads another story in his life. Just TERRIBLE!!!!! I tried to listen to this book twice. I just couldn't get past Chapter 7. I gave it my all. This book does not deserve any stars.

    Publisher's Summary:
Private Investigator Smokey Dalton works for Memphis, Tennessees black community. He has almost no interaction with the white hierarchy, even though they exist only blocks away. So hes surprised the day a white woman walks into his Beale Street office. Laura Hathaway has sought him out because hes a beneficiary in her mothers will, and Laura wants to know why. So does Smokey. Hes never heard of the Hathaways, but his search will take him on a journey that will change everything hes ever known.
Set against the backdrop of the strike and protests that will end with Dr. Martin Luther Kings assassination, A Dangerous Road combines the politics of race, betrayal, unexpected love, and the terrible cost of trust into a story so memorable the Mystery Writers of America chose it as one of the top five novels of the year.
    Critic Reviews:
"More than just offering a puzzle, this novel encourages self-examination about identity, responsibility, and the consequences of choices. Smokey proves himself a man of conscience able to make tough choices." (Publishers Weekly)
"It's not hard to draw parallels between Nelscotts PI Smokey Dalton and Walter Mosleys Easy Rawlins, another secretive, canny black man trying to solve mysteries while circumspectly navigating the white world. But Daltons no knock-off. (Would you label the hundreds of hard-boiled detectives whove appeared in Raymond Chandlers wake mere Marlow Xeroxes because theyre white?)" (Entertainment Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Enjoyable and informative read.
What made the experience of listening to A Dangerous Road the most enjoyable?
This book covers a time in history that I lived. I enjoyed the experience from the level of a real person.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
No, but it had enough to it to keep me listening.
    Which scene was your favorite?
There were so many scenes that I can't pick just one out as a favorite. It was a good book.
If you could take any character from A Dangerous Road out to dinner, who would it be and why?
It would be the beautiful young lady who opened up Dalton's world with her appearance. She appears to have courage and insight that I would find interesting to learn more about.
    Any additional comments?
It looks like the Smoky Dalton story will take a fair amount of time and the purchase of several books if I decide to read the entire thing.
    Breathtaking. Complex. Heartbreaking.
Humanizing the history of the assassination of Martin Luther King is no small feat. We have so lionized the man and his movement that it is easy to forget that he was a man with friends and one who faced an unknowable future just as do we all. Kris Nelscott has placed her protagonist on the periphery of the civil rights movement but squarely in the center of the civil rights story. The mystery around which she winds her telling is a well-utilized MacGuffin but it is the richly drawn characters and simple, smart, informed style that make this book one to which I will return.
    great read!
A story that redefines the meaning of family and takes a man on a search to find the reason for the murder of his parents and what his ties may be to a wealthy family who anonymously gifts him with money.
    Smokey Dalton
What did you love best about A Dangerous Road?
I liked everyting about the book.

Narrarator's voice sounds artficial & emotionless
Would you try another book from Francis Ray and/or Betty Hart?
Maybe, but definitely not if Betty Hart is the narrator. Ms. Hart voice sounds synthesized...like the Google voice. She reads with no emotion...very detached from the characters.
Would you ever listen to anything by Francis Ray again?
Not sure. Maybe if Francis Ray used a different narrator.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Betty Hart sounds voice is emotionless and sounds artificial.
What character would you cut from Twice the Temptation?
I didn't finish the book. I couldn't take listening to the narrator a minute longer.
    wonderful book
Loved this great book the twist and turns are riveting each story captivated my heart!!
    Really enjoyed all the stories.
would listen to it again and again. the narrator could have given a little more life but overall a good story line.
    Awful Narration
What didnt you like about Betty Harts performance?
The cadence and voice changes are not believable. I was not drawn to the any of the stories in this book because of the narrator.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
This book may have been better for me if I'd read it myself. This audible version was just horrible. I just let the book play (to get it over with) without getting into any of the stories after the first one.

Narrator adds the perfect amount of spookiness
Even though our heroine is female it didnt bother me at all that this one was narrated by a man because he was amazing and added to the spookiness of this book. Dave Fennoy has this voice its the voice of every scary Voodoo witch doctor thats ever been heard or read he was perfect for this book. His voice is a cross between Barry White & Dion Graham and I really liked it and was very surprised to find out this was his only audiobook on audible so did some digging and found out he is a voice over actor and has some impressive credits to his name in commercials, animations, games and documentaries. I for one hope he narrates the second book in this series because it wont be the same without him! I also hope he will narrate more books because I could listen to him all day! There were times the music between chapters was annoying and times it felt like it fit in so just a warning to those of you who dont like music in your audiobooks.
I really liked this book; however I am not sure I would have liked it as much if I had read it in print. But since I did listen I really enjoyed it, it was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. This is paranormal suspense about Voodoo and Hoodoo.
Melodys grandmother dies and asks that Melody take her ashes back to the Louisiana Bayou, but what her grandmother doesnt tell her is the inheritance of The Sight that she also passed on and that there is an old book that she needs to take care of as there are many willing to kill for. Melody didnt know anything about Voodoo or Hoodoo but soon finds out her grandmother did which comes as a shock to Melody. When she gets to Louisiana things get even weirder plus she is threatened by a man who says the book her grandmother stole is his and he will get it back no matter what. So we have a mystery a family story with some ghosts and hoodoo going on!
This isnt a story I would have been drawn to but since it is up for an Audie Award I listened to it and am glad I did, it had just the right amount of suspense and the paranormal add a little Catholic Church baddies to the mix and this made for a good story. I was glad a certain someone didnt end up being a bad guy (youll know if you read it) and I am curious if that relationship will go on to the next book (which there is not an audio and that needs to be remedied!). I am curious if certain characters will carry over and which ones that will be. I liked Melody I thought she took everything in stride and it was a lot to take in and Id love to see how she goes forward and what becomes of the Sight.
