Falling for a coworker is rarely a good idea, especially for a man getting a last chance at salvaging his career. But from the moment Dwyer Knolls sees the beautiful but socially awkward Takeo Hiroyuki, he seems destined to make bad decisions.
Takeo's life is a string of failed attempts to please his traditional Japanese father. Unfortunately, succeeding in business turns out to be just as difficult for Takeo as changing from gay to straight. In fact, the only thing Takeo seems to truly excel at is taking notice of Dwyer Knolls.
When Dwyer and Takeo head to Mangrove, Florida on a real estate buying trip, their tentative friendship combusts and becomes much more. Is their sudden connection real enough to bank their futures on, or should they chalk the whole thing up to the daze inspired by the blue ocean breeze?

    Short, Sexy and Steamy!
Where does Blue Days rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
At the top of my list, but then I love anything by Mary Calmes!
What other book might you compare Blue Days to and why?
Super Sock Man by Amy Lane. Both are super short, sexy and steamy and just make you smile.
What about Greg Tremblays performance did you like?
LOVED IT! I love his articulation with Asian culture and voices.
If you could rename Blue Days, what would you call it?
    Sunny Days!
    Any additional comments?
Dwyer Knolls already has one foot out the door when his company is re-envisioned by its Japanese owner. While Dwyer is elated he gets to keep his job, he's a little miffed that he isn't partnered with the mysterious and brooding son of the owner. Regardless of partners and pairings, Dwyer seems to have a way with Takeo that no one else does, the two become friends of a sort all while they both harbor feelings for the other. A business trip to Mangrove, Florida changes everything, and these two become lovers in the time it takes to slam the bedroom door.
They can't hide out in Mangrove forever, and a phone call from Takeo's unreasonable father threatens to burst the perfect little bubble they've surrounded themselves with. Life offers them a reprieve and while Dwyer knows he wants to keep Takeo where he has him, in his life and in his bed, he's not quite sure Mangrove is the place to do that.
Calmes has laid the foundation for another amazing series of stories all about love and acceptance. I especially like the tie in with Aaron of Duncan from the Matter of Time world. Calmes has a knack for pairing polar opposites and making the road they travel to happiness, while often times bumpy, believable and attainable. Now we have the marriage of Calmes writing and Greg Tremblay's narration, I assure you it's perfection. Tremblay is very fluent with Asian cultures, phrasings, nuances and the language. His voice flows seemlessly from Dwyer with his dry, witty sense of humor to Takeo and his abrupt, unflinching attitude. But I think my favorite aspect to their relationship was the bond of communication they built before they became lovers.
Short, sexy, fast read that had me smiling the entire time.
Ehh on the story, but a great narration.
When I saw that this audiobook was narrated by one of my favorite narrators, Greg Tremblay, I KNEW that I had to get my grabby hands on it! When I saw that this book had an Asian, MC, it all made sense. Greg Tremblay is a white guy that can do Asian voices. Really, really well.

    Title: Blackmail, My Love
    Subtitle: A Murder Mystery
    Author: Katie Gilmartin
    Narrator: Eva Kaminsky
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 5 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 27 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Gay & Lesbian
    Publisher's Summary:
Josie O'Conner travels to San Francisco in 1951 to locate her gay brother, a private dick investigating a blackmail ring targeting lesbians and gay men. Jimmy's friends claim that just before he disappeared he became a rat, informing the cops on the bar community. Josie adopts Jimmy's trousers and wingtips, battling to clear his name, halt the blackmailers, and exact justice for the many queer corpses. Along the way she rubs shoulders with a sultry chanteuse running a dyke tavern called Pandora's Box, gets intimate with a red-headed madam operating a brothel from the Police Personnel Department, and conspires with the star of Finocchio's, a dive so disreputable it's off limits to servicemen - so every man in uniform pays a visit.
Blackmail, My Love is a murder mystery deeply steeped in San Francisco's queer history. Established academic and first-time novelist Katie Gilmartin's diverse set of characters negotiate the risks of same-sex desire in a tough time for queers. Humor leavens the grave subject matter. Set in such legendary locations as the Black Cat Cafe, the Fillmore, the Beat movement's North Beach, and the sexually complex Tenderloin, Blackmail, My Love is a singular, visually stunning neo-noir experience.

    Fine Writing, Beautifully Read
Where does Blackmail, My Love rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
One of the best. A well-written story and wonderful narration.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blackmail, My Love?
Don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read, so I'll just say the butch who spoke at the funeral moved me to tears.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Hard to pick just one but I liked Lucille talking with Jo about sex
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, but not because I wasn't enjoying it. Sometimes I needed to absorb a bit or recover from a very emotional scene before I was ready to go on.
    Any additional comments?
I like historical fiction anyway, but would absolutely recommend this book. It might be especially instructive for younger readers, to get a view of what it was like "in the life" in the McCarthy era. Katie Gilmartin can really turn a phrase and beautifully captures the tone of classic1950's detective stories. Eva Kaminsky did a fantastic job of bringing the story to life.
    Audio Noir
Where does Blackmail, My Love rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It was good. It ranks equal with other books I've given five star ratings to.
What did you like best about this story?
There were lots of things I liked about it. It was a gripping story in a great setting (San Francisco) and a very interesting period for LGBT rights (just pre- Stonewall). It had a film-noir-ish feel to it, which I enjoyed. And some of the characters were really lovable.
What does Eva Kaminsky bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
I thought overall, she was a really good narrator. I wasn't entirely sure about the way she voiced the main character, she had a fairly dry, drawling delivery that sometimes sounded a bit bored to me, though that may just be my British ear not picking up the nuances as well as an American listener would.

    Publisher's Summary:
Boston - What happens to lovers after the happy-ever-after moment? What goes on behind the closed doors of a relationship once the commitment is made? What does romance turn into when the hands of time keep turning? Olive Oil and White Bread is a novel that dares to answer those questions.
Angie Righetti is the daughter of a sprawling but close-knit Italian American family. She's out and they're proud. Jillian Clark's family is the white bread to Angie's olive oil. Stoic and emotionally buttoned up, they don't want to think about Jillian's sexuality. It's 1988 when they move in together, on the brink of starting their careers. Like every couple at the start of their life together, they expect to live happily ever after. And for 23 years life happens: They change jobs, buy a house, get a dog, and deal with money issues and the death of a parent. They fight, love, cry, play, make mistakes, have regrets, and try to be good to each other and to everybody else. Like most of us they tumble into a routine that turns into a rut that leads to distraction and danger.
In 96 Hours, Georgia Beers gave herself the challenge of writing a romance set in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. And she succeeded, coming up with a book that garnered awards and great reviews. She returns with a new challenge - writing a romance that starts, rather than ends, with the happy-ever-after.

Sweet, romantic and ultimately insightful story
I must admit that during the first chapters of these novel I was a little dissapointed as the story seemed trite and pretty formulaic, which I guess should not come as a total surprise for this genre. But after reading Ms. Beer's 96 hours, I have come to expect good writing and a deeper type of story-line from her.
The novel is divided in chapters that are told in chronological order and follow the relationship of Angie and Jillian, from its beginning when they moved together in 1988 thru the summer of 2011. So in a way, this is the anti-romantic novel that cares to ask the question, what happens when the honeymoon is over and a relationship falls into the day to day routine? Obviously most couples expect go live happy ever after, but we know that's not how things happen in real life.
For the most part of the book the author throws a few tidbits of pop-culture and well as of the politics of the day, to keep you aware of what's going on in the world but this is really keep to a minimum as it mostly follows the two main characters and how their personal lives and their relationship develops.
I should point out that the books goes a little deeper into two landmark events for the LGTB community in the Unites States and these are given special attention, one is the airing of The Ellen Degeneres show, more specifically the episode when Ellen comes out. The second one is the passing of the Marriage Equality Act, by the New York state legislation in June 2011.
I thought that Ms. Beers does a very good job at incorporating these events into the storyline and allows us to experience first hand how they were felt by Angie and Jillian but also by their friends and families.

Good story - narrator is still bad
I bought both books by TM at the same time and the lesson I learned was; LISTEN TO THE SAMPLE before u do that!
This story is a little different than the first, since its not a comming out story, and i liked the first better. But i think it depends on your preference. Its still a good story - but since there is no soul deep sorrow in this story, the narrator stands out even more. Still sounds like someone in need of comfort all the time.. READ the book instead.
    All About Faith
In this second book of the series, readers meet a new couple who live clear across the country. Their story is uniquely their own and just as compelling as Evan and Matt from book one. The author has the ability to create a complex storyline while maintaining focus on the couple. As the plot weaves around them, its the relationship forming between Jim and Griffin that held my attention.
The narrator once again gives a perfect performance, using his voice to enhance the story. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series... I'm starting to feel as if these characters are my friends.
I review for the Guilty Indulgence Review Site.
Read the Series with this one last...glad I did...
    Any additional comments?
It really didn't make any sense to me to break the series up and read about 2 totally different characters before finishing with the main characters of the series, so I read this one last intentionally. It can be read independently without any problem at all in the series. It wasn't as good as the other books in the series, in fact I found it tedious at times and mechanical in the writing and narration, but I gave it 4 stars because I am thinking about the overall series. I'd like another installment in fact. Not with these folks though. You did enough with them.

Dark and Intense, but worth the read.
What made the experience of listening to Rare the most enjoyable?
The personal growth of both the characters as it was brought to life by Lesley's narration.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Rare?
The last sentence, when Pete is able to wrap his arms around Ash from behind, and Ash doesn't flinch or pull away.
Have you listened to any of Michael Lesleys other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No, but I will.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried after Pete's accident when things went south for a little while there. But then, I was so proud of Ash and the way he handled it all, when he easily could have just checked out.

Its been just over a year since I initially read the story of Ash and Pete. Ill be honest, I wasnt blown away with the written version of their story, I didnt feel a strong connection to the characters at that time. But now, after listening to their story and being introduced to the always chaotic and slightly psychotic lives they lead through the voices theyve been given, now Im blown away.
Ashley Fagin, Ash, could give Christian Grey a run for his money in the fucked up department. His mother died when he was still a toddler and for the next dozen or so years Ash was tossed from foster home to foster home, until he finally had enough and ran away. Just a teenager and Ash was homeless and living on the streets. The one thing that brought him solace and quieted the voice of doubt that was stuck on repeat in his head was his art.
That is how he found his best friend Ellie, like souls drawn together by Ashs street art, Ellie and her family sort of took responsibility for Ash. They moved him into the apartment of a trust worthy and friendly paramedic, got him insurance and helped him get a job at a tattoo parlor to showcase his fantastic Artwork.
Pete Adams loves his job as a paramedic, he loves helping people, but the stress of the job is weighing heavier on his soul with each passing day. Having to keep his sexuality a secret from his co-workers doesnt help. He is enamored with his new roommate the minute he lays eyes on him, the blonde haired, blue eyed troubled soul, Ash. Pete doesnt know what misfortune has followed Ash, the guy is as jumpy as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

    Hard to like
The character if hunter and his whining makes this a hard story to like or get into and the sex scenes that should be hot are very contrived. Not my favorite
    Double GFY/OFY-awesome!
Hunter is a straight man who falls in love with one of his best friends, Max. This is their story, told in a series of flash backs and leaps forward. We start with Hunter and Max on vacation in Florida. Theyve been hot and heavy for months, but not actually committed to each other or had full relationship with a man. Max, a newbie, doesnt want to make love to someone unwilling to be with him fully. After much deliberation, Hunter agrees that the time is right for them to come out as a couple and hes rewarded with Maxs innocence.
Then, we are shown, back in time, their original meeting, when both were straight guys who were drawn to each other. This then leads through the months and years of each mans road towards discovering their preferences and finally to the culmination where they both come out to their friends and cement their relationship as long term partners.
    **
I really enjoyed this double GFY/OFY story of two men discovering love with one another. Its told from Hunters POV as he is the most confused of the pair, he has to process a lot of emotion. I thought the author did a tremendous job of being fairly realistic in how slow it would be for two men to go from dating women to dating each other and since the story itself is short, we get important highlights from those years, not every minute detail.
Im not sure I really appreciated all the back and fort between time periods, as a listener it was hard to follow sometimes.
However, the narrator did an excellent job. He was really good at reading the dialog and the smexy times, but didnt try to take over the story with a variety of voice types. Everyone was voiced the same, but he really did a nice job showing emotion appropriately in the right parts of the story. He seemed to get what he was reading.
I hadnt heard from this narrator before, but Id look for him again.
I look forward to the next installment, Taking You Home.
I really enjoyed both the book and narration and give it 4.5 of 5 stars.
Don't waste your 2 hours 9 mins with this
This felt like listening to an adolescent's badly-written journal. I couldn't make sense of it despite this being only 2 hours long.

Everything about Jeremy has always been a lie - including his last name. When one grift too many ends in tragedy, Jeremy goes straight. But life's hard for an ex-con, and Jeremy is down to panhandling and hope when Rance Crawford offers him work at a tiny alpaca farm and fiber mill. When Jeremy's past comes knocking at their door, can Jeremy trust enough in Aiden and his new home to answer bravely back?

    I loved it!
    Any additional comments?
I swear, this series is so awesome. I don't know why I waited so long to get into this series...I swear I'm kicking myself.
Jeremy's story absolutely broke my heart in the best way possible. Everything about it tugged on my heartstrings and made me want to find him, bundle him up, and hold him close forever. Even better, where Jeremy kept breaking my heart, Aiden was always there to put the pieces back together. I loved the way I got Jeremy and Aiden's backstory, which just proved even more that these two belong together, and the wait to get them that way just made the whole thing even better.
I was sucked in from the first minute. Philip Alces does such a phenomenal job with the narration. He's so good!
My only complaint was the overuse of "Boy" and "Kid" when referring to Aiden. I understand why Jeremy does it at first - to distance himself from someone he felt an immediate pull to, but who was too young. However, continuing to refer to Aiden that way after they got together grated on me.
With that small exception, this was such a feel good, fuzzy, warm, sweet novella with so many emotional turns and some sexy times (finally) at the end.
    I loved it!
I can't wait to continue the series!
    Highly Recommended!
    A scared rabbit
I loved the narrators voice. He made Jeremy sound like a con man at times, which he was, and lost and confused, which he was even more often. Aiden, just amazing
    More Granby greatness.
Book 2 tells us a little more of the Granby bunch. Jeremy's a grift-er that did time and wants to be honest, but really doesn't know how. Rance, Ariadne, and Aiden teach him how to live and love as a honest man, and how to put down roots.
Not a light and fluffy as the first, but not a angsty as Amy can get. Again the story stops short, but there is 2 more books that rounds out this storyline very well.
    Another great book
I love this cast of characters so much I like to revisit them every year. When I found the audio version of the series I promptly downloaded them. I highly recommend this series.
Love this series - and Jeremy!!!! So sweet!
This is the second (maybe the third?) in the Granby knitting series by Amy Lane. Aiden works for Craw, who we met in book one. Aiden is young, hasnt done much else in life, and has been fostering a secret (or not so secret) crush on Craw.

Dan was a throwaway child and learned to take care of himself in foster care. As an adult, he devotes his life to the business he started and his heart to raising children no one else wants. Dan has already adopted six-year-old Lila, who walks on crutches, and then decides to adopt eight-year-old Jerry, who suffers from MD and is confined to a wheelchair.
Also abandoned as a child, Connor ended up on his own and retreated into himself. He works as a carpenter and woodcarver and is the perfect man to ensure Dans home becomes wheelchair accessible.
When Dan hires Connor, neither of the men are ready to open their hearts to the possibility of love. As they learn how much they have in common, both of them must weigh the possibility of family and a future against the risks of getting hurt again.
    Members Reviews:
Love this series, not this story or narrator
Dan Harrington is now a rich guy who wants to help kids who didnt have a good life, kids who were thrown away like he was. He adopts a little girl and then later a little boy, both with disabilities and converts his house to accommodate their needs.
Connor OMalley, who considers himself a throw away, volunteers his handyman/wood working skills at the Childrens Home where Dans kids were adopted from. Connor had a crush on Dan when they were teenagers, but Dan moved away before anything could ever come of it.
At first Connor sees Dan as a rich guy who is self-important and selfish when he misinterprets an event he witnesses at the Childrens Home, but he soon realizes Dan is anything but selfish.
Dan asks Connor to help him renovate his house for the kids partly because hes the best wood worker in town, and partially because Dan has always had a crush on Connor.
There are some brief moments of angst and miscommunication between Dan and Connor, both thinking the other doesnt like or is too good for the other, but mostly the story is about helping these two forming a relationship and helping to raise two disabled children.
    **
Andrew Grey is hit or miss for me. I read the first two books in the series, those were about one MC who was blind and the other deaf and it was about them finding love despite their respective issues.
In this case the issue is really that neither Dan nor Connor feels they deserve love because of bad childhood experiences.
In Dans case, it kind of makes sense. In Connors less so, but I can sort of see it.
Im not sure how to rate this book. The story felt off. Connor almost felt like a man with a learning disability. He was slow talking, off-putting, reclusive and socially inept. I really have no idea what Dan saw in him. Connor kept isolating himself and making assumptions about Dan that cast Dan in a bad light when Dan was never anything but a sterling guy.
The kids really stole the show. Their story was heartbreaking and it was hard reading about and loving Jerry, the boy with Muscular Dystrophy who wouldnt be alive for more than a handful of pain filled years.
I appreciated that Dan had a total collapse due to his controlling ways, but never really saw him lean on Connor and utilize the support that Connor could provide to take some of the burden.
I would have loved to see Dan give some of the childrens care to Connor and have them form their relationship as a partnership, taking care of the children and each other. Instead they only connected in the most superficial of ways, sexually.

    Super Round-Up
Below is an edit of the review I posted for Morning Report, Book One in the series. It serves as an introduction to Luke's Present, this novella follow-up. I rated this one five stars, but gave only four to Morning Report. Still, I think both of them, together, will get you to 4.75.
If you like your cowboys horny 100% of the time, you will absolutely love this book. Now, I always love an M/M romance with lots of sex between the MCs, but this one was just a bit too short on plot development until newer characters came in late in the game.
The two protagonists, Simon and Luke, are more than stereotypical macho cowboys who have nothing on their minds other than keeping each other satisfied. For 10 years, they've done it, almost out in the open enough so that the whole ranch, and most of the town, know it, until the good Reverend and his bad wife come along to practically ruin everything. (This is Texas, remember). That neither of them had the courage, or even idea, of confronting those two hung with me throughout the book.
But I went on and on, and in the end enjoyed it, but was hesitant about reading the sequels because the MCs emerged from this book, and I did not particularly like them. Instead I went to Book 3.5, Luke's Present, which returned to these essentially sex obsessed men with enough "flashback" information so I didn't have to read numbers 2 & 3. Luke's Present is spectacular deserves five stars.
In this one Luke is laid low by a serious injury and Simon is beside himself with worry about his mental and physical health, to say nothing of their sex life. The way this one works through to an eventual solution is way out there on a limb, but this is Texas and things tend to go big there. Really cool denouement.
My biggest complaint remains: Why in the world do publishers only clearly show the face of one of the MC's on the covers? I think the man in the background is Simon, but Luke is the owner of the ranch--why not show his face as well? Grrrrr.
    Loved it!
Not sure what book Pinky read, maybe she isn't familiar with the concept of a Dom/Sub relationship..... I saw no signs in any of these books of abuse, either physical, mental, or emotional. I love the bond between Simon and Luke, they love and trust each other and work well as a couple.
I loved them best of the three couples these books follow and was very happy to go back to them for this short story. I liked the other two couples quite a bit, but Simon and Luke are just so special to me. I was happy to see Simon finally get to the heart of Luke's fear from the flood, and his issues with getting the surgery. I'm glad he got it done. Happy to see the family and community supporting them, and the ranch doing so well.
I hope we get more from the Lost Cow Ranch!
    Just Ok
I love Simon and Luke. The first three books in the Morning Report series were great; however, this short story lacked something.

    Publisher's Summary:
Rance Crawford is an alpaca rancher, fiber mill owner, and self-proclaimed grumpy bastard. When sweet, charming tenderfoot Ben McCutcheon moves onto Crawford's rural road, Rance is very aware that Ben makes it a grand total of two gay men in their tiny town, and even though he is instantly, painfully smitten, any move he makes could be simply chalked up to being hard up. Using his best weapon and favorite skill, Crawford launches an awkward, wordless effort to make sure Ben is kept warm during the cold Colorado winter, every last piece of him - especially his heart.

Querky romance for a great series starter.
Cute start to a series that gets even better.
Although this story seems to stop short at the end, have no worries the series continues with all the characters getting involved.
    Absolutely Wonderful!
    Any additional comments?
Rance Crawford is an alpaca and sheep rancher, owns a fiber mill, does most of his own spinning along with his best friend (the appropriated named) Ariadne, and has the social skills of an amoeba. I loved this character so much it's not even funny.
When charming and socially adept Ben McCutcheon inherits his great-aunt's property next door, Rance is suddenly floored by this vibrant and beautiful man. So much so that he immediately moves out of his comfort zone to woo Ben. With his knitting.
I'll tell you this book made me want to learn how to knit. Even though it hasn't got a lot of steam at first, the UST is there, and the steams builds until it finally explodes. Deliciously so.
Full of feel good moments and low on angst I absolutely LOVED this story.
More than that though, I ADORED the narration by Philip Alces. I've never listened to him before, but WOW was I impressed. I loved everything from start to finish and wouldn't change a thing.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
    cute
super cute winter time story. Opposites attract and he fact that Rance is a gumpy ole man who likes to knit is just a bonus
Adorable! I want winter wear now!
Sweet, adorable, tender. I loved it! I was part of my romance package but I would have chosen it anyway!
Super fun, low angst story; Decent narration
Ben moves to tiny Granby and his neighbor is grumpy recluse Rance Craw Crawford who runs the Alpaca farm/yarn store. As noted in the blurb, the only apparently two gay men in town are now living side by side.
As the title suggests, most of the story revolves around a bizarre method of courtship (knitting) as Craw pursues Ben using the most subtle seduction technique EVER!
Craw is afraid Ben will think he is only wanted because hes the only guy around, and Ben was burned before in a bad relationship and not eager to be hurt again.
In this, the first of the knitting series, we meet all the wonderful secondary characters that show up in the rest of the books. This is actually the weakest of the series, in my opinion the secondary characters are so richly developed that they almost over-shadow the romance between Ben and Craw. Of course we see more of them in the others books, which is awesome, but I would have loved to spend more time with Ben and Craw as a couple here.
This is a fairly angst-free, almost tongue in cheek romance, different from Amys more tissue-laden stories and is a fun, light read.
