My son and I read this book together and we both LOVED it! The author is so witty and the book keeps you intrigued with all its' twists and turns. The surprise ending was the icing on the cake :)

great series

my daughter hated reading, that is until we found out about the weird school series. I've read the first couple of books to her and now she is hooked and reads them herself!!! Absolutely wonderful!

My son loves these books!

Crass, mean-spirited. Not a good book, and certainly not for a 7yo.

Received this book as a gift for my 7yo son, who tore through it one evening. He found it not very interesting, so I decided to read it to see if I could engage him further. I was disappointed in how crass and mean-spirited the story and specifically the protagonist is, and decided the less attention paid to this book, the better. (I binned it.)

The word "hate"--which in our family we don't ban, but we try to use only for extremely bad experiences or situations, and never directly towards people--is probably the most common single word in the book. "I hate school." "I hate substitute teachers." "If these guys weren't my friends I would hate them." "I hate people who..." "Dear Andrea, I'm sorry I hate you."

The second most common word might be "dumb". "She is the dumbest teacher in the history of the world." "That's corporation, dumbhead." "...that dumb story."

Lastly, the "plot" revolves around an unexpected substitute teacher, and the kids' investigation amounts to little more than speculation that the sub murdered (yes, murdered) the regular teacher. But when the regular teacher re-appears, they conclude that she in fact murdered the sub.

Although there are flashes of wit, none of the above is delivered ironically, nor is there any sort of come-uppance for the protagonist with the terrible attitude and questionable language.

Long story short, not the kind of nonsense I want my 7yo to read.

Dan Gutman understands young readerâs humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But donât mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

I read this story to my 5th grade students and they loved the story and the illustrations. Great for incorporation historical fiction and common core alligned. :)

Civil War book children's level didn't know that when I ordered it.

Wish there had been more 'story' to it. It was illustrated in cartoon fashion.... but I wanted to read more historical meat

in the topic..... It was a short, o.k. story....

Helping the revolution

This is a delightful little book for ages 5 to 9; but even older would enjoy reading about this little known event. George Washington needed cannons in 1775. He was outside of Boston and the nearest cannons were at Fort Ticonderoga. It was impossible to bring those cannons to Boston in the winter, until a plump Boston bookseller says he will do it.

There are very nice coloured drawings, including a map that shows what an amazing journey these cannons took. The book will fit on two reader's laps.

The details of this extraordinary patriotic feat are well told. This is a lesson in determination and even valor. What is better is that it is a true story...a fascinating event in the American Revolution.

For my new granddaughter -- I want her to grow up with the favorite books I and her mother also had as children. Wonderful book!

No Illustrations

Beatrix Potter's way with the English language is like no other children's author. Her words paint a beautiful picture, but, this Kindle version inserts "[Illustration]" where each of her beautiful drawings would normally be.

It's great if you don't mind missing the drawings and just want to work on vocabulary with your kids, but I agree with the previous review-buy the books too.

Great kids book

Classic kids book! A must read for all children. Quick read for parents and a cute story. These were my first books as a child and I still enjoy reading them to my own children.

Rabbits. What's Not To Like?

How can one go wrong with a Beatrix Potter story and for such a great price? I picked up a bunch of these short stories to read to my youngsters while we were on vacation. No need to carry a fifty-pound bag of books on the road any more. The Kindle solved the problem with flying colors. If you haven't grown up with these books you'll love reading them to your children. Mine can't get enough. Since this is a short story I'm not going to give a synopsis here but just believe me when I say you can't go wrong. Exciting book

Do you like books about funny pirates and pirate fights? The Littlest Pirate by Sherryl Clark is the book for you.

First, it is exciting because there are two action scenes. There is a pirate fight, and they have to take over a ship. Will they be able to do it? Read the book to find out.

Second, it is a funny book. They fire desserts out of cannons because they run out of cannon balls. Also, Nicholas, the star of the book, climbs his baby sitters long hair.

I hope you like the book. It is a fun, exciting book for people who like pirates.

Excellent Series for Beginning Readers

I highly recommend this series of books (nibbles, bites, chomps) for encouraging reluctant readers to continue learning to read. This story has captured my 6 year old boy. It's at the level of a step 2 to Step 3 book in other series, and written with short 6-7 pages per chapter (6 chapters total). It's about a boy who is left behind with the babysitter while his family goes off pirating. But then they are captured by Red Beard and held for ransom. With nothing but the spare boat and crew, and the cook's toffee and caramel desserts, he sets off to rescue them. We all cheered when he was successful!

I loved being able share this fun, wholesome story with my daughter. All of the content was positive. I would love to see more content like this out there. My daughter and I will read the whole sires once the rest of the series is Whispersync for Voice enabled.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

We listened to this book on the way home from vacation and my kids where enjoying it so much that they stayed in the car while I unloaded because they wanted to finish the epilogue.

Great story.

Great story for primary elementary students to learn how to retell a story, and answer comprehension questions. Good for the character, Hilda, to attempt different actions recommended by other characters, positive social attempts although with personal preferences and then she enjoyed the final resolution with everyone else. I'm a speech language pathologist and used this book for students to learn story grammar skills.

Great book

Bought this book as a gift. The pictures are fantastic and the story keeps the interest of a young child. This is a favorite of my grand daughter.

Hillda Must Be Dancing

I orignally found this story at the library. My granddaughter is 5 yrs old and loves the book. We only read it a few times and she already knew most of the words. We signed it out of the library 3 times because she just loved the book, the pictures and the words. I finally decided she needed her own and she was thrilled when she opened it up. It is a fun story that your child or grandchild can chime in.
