My mother read this to me when I was young and could quote it chapter and verse. Such a beautiful book with a very timely message. I just love the suave and very courtly spider who is trying to entice the fly dressed as a 1920's flapper into his home. A wonderful read and a lovely book.

and of course she will be the pretty little fly

My 3 year old wants to read this. Every. Single. Night. She is forcing me to be the spider for Halloween, and of course she will be the pretty little fly. Kind of a morbid story, but it's great and the pictures really bring it to life. They capture the bug personalities incredibly well.

Personally, I love this book for it's illustrations and the story has a deeper meaning to it. However, my kids won't read it because the sweet little fly gets eaten so they think it's an evil, cruel book (ages 7 and 10). I'll continue to keep it on the bookshelf and maybe one day they'll come to appreciate it.

Terrific book!

My daughter has loved this book since she was four, we've read it dozens of times. She gets so excited by the poetry of its language and the detail and whimsy in the images. Based on a 19th century poem that has long been one of my favorites, the depictions of the spider and the fly's interactions is entertaining and the moral lesson of the book is something you can have an honest and frank discussion about with young children about choosing friends wisely and trusting strangers.

What a wonderful book! My husband and little girl enjoy reading this together. I only gave it three stars because it was advertised as being in better condition than what it was. Actually, it had a message written in pen inside the book from the original purchaser to her husband. Took away a bit from the sentimentality.

Good story

Such a great book to read, daddy to daughter! The drawings are wonderful, lively and engaging. The story rhymes, it flows and is easy for the little ones to remember. Not to mention, I chocked reading it to her the first time. Such a good gift for Dad!

I actually bought this book for my granddaughter after first hearing the song that goes with the book. It was perfect for a little girl with a daddy who loves her so much. We have this book at our house along with many others for her. I am a true believer in children loving to read! When we read this book with her, we turn on the CD afterwards, and she dances around with her daddy. A "splendiferous" Christmas story!

My daughter loves Fancy Nancy and this is the book that introduced her to the character. For any girl that is fancy and loves Christmas this will be a great story for her. Definitely for the younger crowd, my daughter was about three and a half years old when we discovered the story, she is now almost 5. In case you are new to Fancy Nancy, her character is cute as can be. She loves to use big fancy words. I love this entire series of books. My daughter's TK teacher has commented on my daughters large vocabulary, in my opinion these books have helped show her how to use an elevated vocabulary.

Splendiferous Read!!!!!

I initially got the book because I wanted my daughter to see the play. So she could compare the two & pick up on any differences & she did both. She loved the book & the play. She has many of Fancy Nancy's books. These was just one more to add to her collection. Considering big words are her thing she'll continue to develop her vocabulary in the fanciest way possible. Lol

This is a very cute book. I bought it for my 2-year old great-niece (who actually has a great-aunt Nancy that everyone calls "Fancy Nancy," so this book has special meaning to our family). It's a cute, fun book that is entertaining to children. The illustrations are well done, and the quality of the book is very good. I highly recommend it!

Didn't love this one as much as the others but still a cute story

Good kids book

Good kids book, I try to have my first grader read for me when he is sitting around doing nothing.

Great storyline

I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old daughter and she loves it. The storyline is clear enough for her to follow along but complex enough that it challenges her level of comprehension. I also think, given her age, this book displays different emotions that turn into teachable moments for her as one of Pinkalicious' friends is nervous and scared to be at the sleepover.

7 yo grandson loved reading it aloud

I hadn't yet previewed it but one night when I was visiting & he needed a more challenging book, this did the trick. Just that day we'd been discussing the importance of honesty. Along with that, other topics regarding good manners & ethics are presented and discussed in VERY humorous ways kids will recall FAR better than any "lecture" could. I highly recommend this for kids 5 to ~9

I am not a fan of promoting stories where the characters are rude or making fun of others. I realize it may be an actual representation of childish behavior but I don't see why it should be glorified.

"This book is good so far

My son says, "This book is good so far. The super burp is in it and that's fun."

He loves the George Brown series overall which for him is a big deal. We struggle to find books that he will read without complaint or even want to read on his own. He picks up the George Brown books to read just for fun.

Fine fare for the young ones.

Can only say that my grandson found this very enjoyable.

Felt too long

Would you consider the audio edition of The End of Time to be better than the print version?

My family has enjoyed the Umber trilogy very much. The only bad thing I have to say about this book is that being the last in the series I felt that the author had too much to wrap up in this book. In places it felt like it was dragging. I feel like the book could have been split into two books and some of the ideas could have been fleshed out more, without it feeling like it was dragging. Other than that it really is a great book, and series that our family loved.
