Great listen!!

I truly enjoyed listening to this! Lots of great characters, and compelling storylines! I really loved the way the author and narrator brought the story to life. I found myself sitting in my car long after I got to work just to listen to what would happen next!

Wow! When is the next audible book available?

This book exceeded my expectations! The last 11 chapters were compelling, filled with intrigue, avenging detail and although fiction a very real thought provoking reflection of my own belief system. The best way for me to tell you how much I liked the story and it's telling is to explain that I did not allow myself to listen unless I was walking at the same time. I generally walk 2 miles a day. By chapter 16 I had extended my walk to 3 miles just to listen to what came next. By chapter 25 I was up to almost 5 miles and had to stop due to body limitations. I could not wait to walk the next morning to hear the big surprise! Truly a book that helped my body, mind and pleasure!

Unholy Seduction

EXCELLENT!!!! I am at the beach for the winter and this was just what I was looking for! Makes you think, pulls you in and left me ready for when I could hear MORE! This book is great! I recommend the audible version for the beach, I whale watched and had a fantastic story in my ears! I read a lot, Jack Watts has become one of my favorites! He never disappoints ! Get it! So good! Religion, relationships and a tiny bit of politics, good stuff!

Different and Mind-Expanding

It was exciting to meet Sam McCord, the undead Texas Ranger, again and go on another adventure with this intriguing character. Dragons of the Barbary Coast is a mix of great fantasy and adventure where you have a chance to meet the young Samuel Clemens, the infamous Barbary Coast madam, Ah Toy, and even Mozart in a mystical, magical place called Casa.

Itâs in Casa that time and reality bend to the whim of the author and where you enter a tale where anything can happen and nothing is predictable. And therein lies the fascination of Roland Yeomanâs stories.

I loved the discussion topics at the end of this book as well as the links to more information about Chinese Celestial Dragons, but Iâm a Chinese Dragon fan, so that may be why I appreciated those particular links.

The author owns a Thesaurus

Are you kidding me? The book begins with an elderly lady who survived WW2 wanting to tell a classroom of students her story. It begins by her angst of trying to find the right way to reach them and gain their attention. Fair enough. However, it seems as if the author uses a thesaurus to find the most obscure words to the point of distraction. We get it, she either has an extensive vocabulary, or a well worn thesaurus. As an educator who works with ninth graders, I can confidently say that she would have lost their attention within the first 15 minutes.

The plot is quite unbelievable, but in my view that is forgivable. It is creative, and the reader is drawn into the story line.

I would recommend this book to an adult, I think the average high school student would quit reading it out of sheer frustration with the language.

The biggest irony is that the author seems to try to impress the reader with an extensive vocabulary, yet makes several grammatical errors. I found that quite humorous.

A movie in the making?

This story would make an excellent movie. We often hear and read about the lengths a mother will go for her child, but rarely do we hear or read about the lengths a young child will go for his/her mother. Wanting nothing more than to locate and reunite with their mother after they were cruelly separated on a train platform enroute to imminent death, two children and a new found friend embark on a frightening mission across Nazi occupied Poland and sneak INTO a concentration camp. What happens along the way is harrowing, with many close calls. And even though this was all happening during one of the most disgusting and inhumane times in European history, there were many tender moments. What happens in the end? Do they find their mother at Auschwitz? Read the book to find out.

Unique story

This is a story about three children who broke into Auschwitz and lived there undetected for four months. Before breaking in, they traveled from Romania to Poland in cattle cars, lived on leaves in the woods, fought a wolf... true? Interesting, but implausible. However, I was very impressed with the lexicon the author used.

and then the tears came

As I read this book I remember seeing the sights we saw in the 60s as we walked through the gates of Dauaua. And later went to a play, " I never saw another butterfly ". Put on by a group of high school students and more tears came as I saw every one else of the audience with tears running down their faces. We will never forget!

Making history real

A fictional story about a real and terrible event - an event that seems too awful to be true and yet it is.

Anca is 12, her brother, Nicholae, is 6. Elone is 9. The children were separated from their parents on the way to a labour camp (actually Auschwitz, a death camp) and were left to cope alone. Elone and her family were Jews, though Anca's family was not. It was not only Jews that wound up in the Nazi death camps.

I do have criticisms of this story - that the language was often unnatural, and the author has a liking for obscure words - words that are not even in a normal size dictionary.

Great story - hoping for a sequel!

This is a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging "listen" - full marks to the narrator who brought it to life very well. I was disappointed when the story started to unravel towards its conclusion - left me wanting more - certainly room for a sequel here so let's hope Diane Allen is minded the same way! I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Must Read!! Page Turner

It is rare that I actually spend the time to sit down and read a book. I started reading and was amazed to look up and see the clock said I had been reading for hours. The stories and feeling like you're reading a journal or diary makes you forget its a book and you can imagine being there. What drives this book, even more, is the fact it is based on a true story, you will find yourself worrying about each person in this book. I at one point was actually afraid to find out if Terezia's husband would come home, I won't tell you if he does come home or what happens to him.

Great book and the is a must read it feels like it happened to my family! Can't wait to read other books like this by the Author she has a talent for sure.â

Learned so much of a subject just mentioned in our schools. I had no idea. Very down to earth, Author made the people real. Historical account of the writer's family escape from the Russian Communists. I gave it five stars on my Kindle when it asked.

Great Book!

What an amazing story! I knew little about the Hungarian revolution before reading the book. It was very informative, suspenseful and well- written. I highly recommend it.

A very personal story of trials and escape, a true and impassioned immigrant story.

Couldn't Put Down

I have to be honest and say at the outset that I never write book reviews. I love to read but writing reviews is not my favorite thing to do. With that being said, I need to write just a few lines to tell others how much I enjoyed this book. I knew very little about Hungarian history and never knew I cared. But I found the story of this family living through the Hungarian revolution as well as their escape and eventual arrival and new life in the U.S., nothing short of riveting. It reads like so many of the historical fiction books that Iâve read. It had a little of everything from mystery to romance to history and I found myself anxiously waiting for time to sit down each day and find out what happened next. After reading about the author, I learned that it was a story that was told to her over and over as she grew up, by her parents and other relatives. I think everyone should read this book.

I love the story of Fulk Fitzwarren, and Elizabeth Chadwick more than does it justice. The characters were brilliantly drawn, and the story gripped me from the opening sentence. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Unsuccessfully ambitious

This book had been highly recommended to me, by a younger reader. Is it a generational thing? I found the writing ugly, the tone of the holocaust sections quite "off", and some plot lines such as the blackmail by Tariq were unresolved. Oh, and the characters??? Where were the editors

A Holocaust story with a difference

I loved this book, although it was extremely confronting in the first few pages! The beginning did, however, shape our perception of the character and his attitude and misdemeanors throughout the rest of the book. This was an enthralling read throughout and has a wonderfully unexpected twist which kept me reading through the night. Highly recommended

Loved the ending

It was a book that I couldn't put down. Loved the ending. It was something a bit different.

Fascinating

Quite

Jaded Limey expresses cynical views on the US, using an alternative history of the Cuban missile crisis to substitute for Western Union. Some sections are repeated verbatim from the previous novel. The author has the distinction of probably being the only person ever likely to write romantic scenes involving Margeret Thatcher,which were so appalling, that most American readers would probably start to yearn for a return to the Yank-bashing.

Just gets better!

This is developing into a fascinating storyline!

The dialogue and plot are first rate, I particularly enjoyed the British government workings and the bringing in of a famous female politician into the storyline.

A bit confusing if you are an American

Great story! I particularly care for the political machinations. I would live to read about the behind scenes in the White House 24 hours before and after the start of the war !

I love alternate history

More poorly written than the first book (there were entire halves of chapters seemingly copy-pasted from Operation Anadyr!), with long rambling expositions that were essentially meaningless. I suspect that the author is trying to hide the completely unbelievable storyline. I love alternate history, but the main plot in this story is just too much to believe.

What's worse is that the writing, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation, was just so bad that I had a difficult time finishing the book. Really disappointing, and I feel that I was ripped off somewhat.

Entertaining if not plausible

Better then book. More complete. Not to be read by anyone who believes the USA is always right but entertaining if not totally plausible. Definitely will read volume 3 to see what happens.
