Paranormal Thriller

Those who like psychological/paranormal thrillers will find this book very detailed and intriguing. The unfolding story will keep the listener wondering what will happen to the main character and how will the mystery end. The narrator does a great job keeping the story flowing and her voice interpretation of each of the many characters was well done.

Narration was Great!

Story that has some truth to it. It was a great book but would wanted to know more on how the main character ended up. Maybe a second book. It will arrive. The narration was great. She did the characters with ease and had to remember them throughout which may not of been easy. It was easy to listen too.

It was easy to tell each character apart, and perfect annunciation. Dark subject matter, but very much a part of our mental health history.

fascinating and detailed story

fascinating detailed story set in a mental hospital in the 1950's . Young nursing students, mysterious ghost story, great well-developed characters and some old school romantic intrigue. Found myself wanting to know more about some of the characters .Very well narrated and highly enjoyable yarn.

Narrator is awful

Would you try another book written by Helen Macie Osterman or narrated by Lolita Anderson?

Never narrated by Lolita Anderson, with the exception of the main character she talks as if she has a golf ball in her mouth!! The voices are so muffled its laughable. I couldn't get passed the first hour because it is unlistenable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Kindle copy does not contain entire story.

I was enjoying the book and then it ended abruptly. I don't know if it is a technical problem or if you have to buy book II in order to read the entire book. Anyhow, it is was very frustrating.

I actually quite liked this book

I actually quite liked this book. Traditionally I only read Military Sci-Fi, thus this was far out of my genre, yet despite this, I found that Francesca did an amiable job at bringing out an entertaining story in a completely civilian environment. he characters were enjoyable and appropriately flawed, particularly the protagonist, There were a notable number of simple typos, though I am more than aware that as an independent author, they are almost unavoidable. Fortunately, the story was sufficiently engaging that it never really distracted me from the plot itself. This is a great novel!

I never really new how the peasants of the renaissance actually lived and survived.

Nice Backstories to Favorite Shows

Very well written and interesting background on these particular detective shows. I'm a fan of the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio podcast, and this book shows that Adam Graham really knows his stuff.

Simply a marvel

"Alone in the Classroom" is such a wonderful story and one recommended by some of the best reviewers on Amazon that I'm surprised at how little attention it garnered. Elizabeth Hay's story of a family history reaching back to the 1920's and up to the current day might remind a reader of "Angle of Repose" by Wallace Stegner where the narrative is drawn from the diaries and oral history of ancestors that's given voice by modern day descendent who projects on to those ancestors emotions, feelings, voice and action. In Stegner's case I found the writing a bit uninspired but here the technique seems to work beautifully with tension, surprises, insights and splendid prose.

And it is the writing that really drew me in. "A shadow fell over them. Parley moved through the school like mustard gas in subtle form. You were aware afterwards that you'd been poisoned." is how Hay describes a new principal / teach that has started at the school where much of the early story takes place.

Immediately an uneasy feeing about Parley Burns sits in your lap. Connie Flood a new teacher and only 19 is the only one to challenge Burns and see him as both alluring and threatening. She is idealistic. She seeks out new ways to reach students. Her life becomes the center of Hay's story as told by her niece some 70 years later. At some points Connie speaks for herself and at other times her niece Anne projects or speaks for herself. There are times when there is a bit of confusion as to who is the grandmother or the daughter or the father as Hay tells both a story of Anne's paternal and maternal sides but ultimately it's clear and the writing is both a joy to read and chock full of brilliant observation.

On corporal punishment that she finally caves into Hay writes about Connie:

"Something terrible had happened to her when she strapped that boy. The pleasure she had felt, whamming his powerless, insubordinate hand, shamed her. The savage satisfaction. No wonder punishment ruled the world. She recalled in the same breath Parley's arousal when he beat the snake to a pulp, and felt revolted by herself."'

The story itself is a meditation on the hold our family histories have on us and how we remember events. Anne is struggling with why her Aunt Connie whom she rarely sees has such an impact on her life.

I would describe this as a wonderful book for young readers

I would describe this as a wonderful book for young readers, especially as it is highly romanticised regarding the relationship between Hans Scholl and Gisela Schertling. The reality of course was rather different as Gisela Schertling claimed in her interrogation, that Hans Scholl was abusive to her. However, the love story element is sweet and it underpins the life sacrifice that was made by these young people. A European reader, like myself, disliked the Americanisms and use of modern-day slang in the story, for instance, universities were never referred to as "schools" and hot beverages (especially coffee and tea ) were never drank out of mugs. On the whole, this young author has done a terrific job of creating a sensitively written novel about The White Rose Group for young readers.

This book tells an amazing true story, and not only that but it is written well, too. Captivating, intriguing, and tear jerking.

Thrilling and inspiring!

Such a powerful story of young people taking a stand for what they know is right against overwhelming odds-and sticking with it to the end! This book not only provides a thrilling page turner story, but actually inspires and convicts readers to take courage and work to resist and counter injustice in our world today in whatever form it may take. Highly recommended!

On aside, I really enjoyed the prose and poetry game played amongst the friends. This reading gets 4 stars from me - all things considered!

Excellent, a must-read

A non-fiction writer can bring you quite close to a historical time period. But a good historical fiction writer can bring you all the way into the room. Emily Ann Putzke has done that with Resist. While reading Putzkeâs vivid , accurate descriptions, I became closer to the Schollâs story than I ever thought possible and found myself rooting all over again for these idealistic young Germans who thought they could topple the Nazi regime with their words.

I donât normally read much historical fiction but because Putzke is an excellent writer and has also done her homework, one never gets the sense that she is trying to draw attention to her own writing, excellent though it is. Instead, she keeps all the attention on the Scholls and their friends.

I definitely recommend this marvelous book!

So accurate!

Anyone not there during cannot fully understand what these brace Marines went through but can try to understand through this book!

Michael Stokey's River of Perfumes delivers a knockout punch!

Michael Stokey's River of Perfumes is the latest in Vietnam war stories. Unlike many tales recounting the horror of the battle for Hue City,this one takes you right there, endears you to its characters and then chews you up and spits you out at the last paragraph on the last page. If you weren't there at the time, you'll be damn glad! If you were there, you'll know Stokey created a time machine that produces exquisite detail, vivid images and gut wrenching memories. Either way, you won't be able to put it down until shear emotional exhaustion makes your fingers too weak to hold the book.
