David Colacci performs the character of Sam Jenkins, an honorable but hard-boiled small-town police chief, with all the gusto of an old noir serial. One pictures Colacci in a dimly lit office sipping rye, smoking a cigar, and relating this first-person mystery narrative by author Wayne Zurl. His delivery of Jenkins with weathered voice and New York accent contrasts the other characters' southern drawl, as the story takes place in Tennessee. It is as much a cowboy story as detective fiction. The plot involves small-town politics and murder. Sam was already involved in a local politician and his wifes domestic abuse problems when the politician gets murdered. Any mystery fan will find it impossible to pause Bullets Off-Broadway: A Sam Jenkins Mystery.

We all have one or two Writers that we find we love immediately, you know like Patricia Cornwell, Janet Evanovich, James Patterson, David Sandford, Agatha Christie. I discoverd one a few months ago and he has taken over the lead in my book, displacing my favorites Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson and Janet Evanovich.
I am proud to introduce Author WAYNE ZURL. If you have not yet read any of his work, do so at your first opportunity, you will enjoy his work immensely, I guarantee it!
I suggest you begin with "A NEW PROSPECT". This novel will give you the background of his main character, CHIEF SAM JENKINS, of the Prospect Police Department. I would bet you will then move on to his other great works; "SCRAP METAL & MURDER", "A MURDER IN KNOXVILLE", "A LABOR DAY MURDER", and more.
CHIEF SAM JENKINS of the Prospect Police Department (Tennessee) is an admirable man, with twenty years experience as a Detective Lieutenant with the Major Crimes section of the Suffolk County Police Department (Long Island, New York). After relocating with his loving and devoted wife and their dog to the foothills of The Smoky Mountains, and fourteen years of 'retirement', he takes the job of Chief of Police in this small country-town. He now commands twelve police officers, intead of a Platoon.
When a City Councilman, owner of a thriving Lumber and Building Supply company is murdered, Chief Sam Jenkins has few suspects and fewer leads. Drawing on his years of experience solving murders up North, he methodically moves toward finding the killer or is it, killers. There are times when a Police Officer must make a 'Split Second', life-or-death decision to use deadly force. You'll feel that in this novel with all the realism a cop feels when placed in that situation.
This a short novel, but with an excellent plot, keeping the reader turning the pages until the very last sentence.
This is the fourth novel by Author WAYNE ZURL that I have read, and now I will go to my Amazon and BUY every one of his books.
