Jimcin Recordings puts together another great performance, keeping the tension at full strength throughout this production of Doyle's "Silver Blaze". Hop on the train with Holmes and Dr. Watson as they make their way about Dartmoor connecting all the dots that well-intentioned Inspector Gregory cannot figure out for himself.

The curious incident of the dog in the night-time
I confess - this is the first Sherlock Holmes I remember reading. It's a short story, it took me less than two hours to read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It contains the memorable line - the curious incident of the dog in the night-time - and a curious incident it is. The story concerns a thoroughbred racehorse stolen from his stables a night or so before a big race and the murder of his owner that same night. Naturally the police have tried but failed to solve the crime, and Holmes is called upon. The style is very similar to Agatha Christie, with numerous clever clues, conundrums, and curious incidents, quite impossible to unravel (unless you're Sherlock Holmes of course!). Holmes must be a lot cleverer than me, because he worked it out pretty quickly. A very clever and surprising end. I shan't say anymore than (as always) it was the least likely suspect what done it.
If you haven't read any Sherlock Holmes, or would like to return to him, I'd recommend this read. I'd also recommended to those who enjoy pitting their wits against the cleverest of detectives.

A Horse of a Different Color
SILVER BLAZE is a great story by Arthur Conan Doyle and may have been considered one of his favorites. A brilliant horse which was a favorite with the racing public goes missing and the worse is feared. Where was the first favorite for the Wessex cup? Coupled with the beloved horse's unknown whereabouts was evidence of a drugged stable boy and a murdered trainer. What happened to the horse, how did the stable boy get drugged and who killed the trainer?
This is a great story and is delivered admirably. Holmes even shows humility in this story which is certainly not a quality that he was well known for. He says to Watson: "Because I made a blunder, my dear Watson - which is, I am afraid, a more common occurrence than anyone would think who only knew me through your memoirs."
This story also shows Holmes to have his own moral compass and has him playing a "Robin Hood" of sorts in determining who should be exonerated and given amnesty. We see Holmes has his own unique sense of right from wrong!
As Kyle Freeman wrote in his Introduction to Volume I of the Sherlock Holmes anthology, " The first in the series, "Silver Blaze," pleased Conan Doyle so much that he bet his wife a shilling she couldn't solve the mystery.
