Publisher's Summary:

Yucca Dunes. MacKenzie, a Border Collie, and Javier, a Chihuahua, provide Buddy with companionship and bring him food scraps when his neglectful owners forget to provide for him. When Buddy's owners decide to move, Buddy meets a wonderful lady who visits his house with prospective buyers. The poodle's humans try to sell their dog and Buddy goes through a series of unsuitable living situations. The final family returns Buddy to the tract home not realizing the owners are out of town. His only lifeline, MacKenzie, is killed by an evil Hummer driver while bringing him food. Tiny Javier tries to support Buddy with the aid of Dumb Derek, a Rottweiler whose brain is damaged from years of guarding a chemical dump. The two are unable to help the poodle. Buddy dies, but is brought back to life by Sonny, the Good Shepherd. Sonny grants Buddy's wish to go live with the wonderful lady, in return for his promise to go with Sonny when he comes back for him. Buddy has a happy life with the lady and her dog, Skootch. Together they rescue abandoned Leroy and abused Roxanne. Years later, during Skootch's fifteenth birthday party, Sonny comes for Buddy. True to his word, he goes without complaint. Sonny takes Buddy to Haven, the canine paradise, where he is reunited with MacKenzie. Sonny explains the rules in Haven; dogs acquire free will and give up their role of caring for humans. Their only responsibility is to help guide other dogs to Haven. Buddy excels at guiding, but on a mission to bring back a bomb dog from Afghanistan, Buddy breaks the rule and helps a human, the dog's Marine partner. The residents of Haven are furious with the poodle and he is exiled to the perimeter of paradise. There he meets a young girl who has died of cancer and befriends her, another infraction of the rules. He is dragged before the communal tribunal, where MacKenzie defends him. With the help of the marine and the girl, MacKenzie convinces the judges that Buddy is not an offender, but a hero.

Absolutely awesome!!!

Fantastic story.....love the whole thing, I know this will help when trying to explain death to my son (eventually) :)

Life Through Dogs' Eyes and Minds

K. Anne Russell has mastered the art of writing from an animal point of view and makes her story of life, camaraderie and death among dogs not only entertaining, suspenseful, sentimental and humorous, but she also manages to make some poignant points about relationships in general - whether between animals or people. Her story follows the friendship of several dogs in a neighborhood, the narrator is Mac (MacKenzie , a Border Collie) who is accompanied everywhere by Javier (a Chihuahua with a sparkling accent and rhythm), and their friend Buddy, a Standard Poodle. Buddy is a sweetheart of an animal who has the misfortune of being mistreated by his owners - his only means of survival is the delivery of food and water by his pals. Buddy dreams of living with a kind woman who befriended him in the past and when Buddy dies, he ascends into Haven where the Good Shepherd Sonny restores Buddy's life to give him the wish he desires - for a while. When Buddy's time on earth has expired, Sonny brings him back to Haven, where he meets his old friend Mac and the dogs are given the responsibility to escort earthly dogs to Haven.

Awesome Animals, thats true of Meerkat Madness

I did receive my book, and it is great. Thank you so much for such a great book. Reading is so important for our children. Keep them coming.

"Wup-wup-wup!" Uncle Fearless and his adopted pups are off on a desert adventure ...

Uncle Fearless was tending to the motherless meerkats, Skeema, Little Dream, and Mimi. Their mother, Princess Fragrant, has been "taken by a wild dog" when they were wee things. They remembered that Flower had nursed them, but most of all they loved Uncle Fearless. They were getting ready to head to the Upworld and he tried to reassure them that everything would be just fine. Uncle Fearless would often tell them about his Glory Days, those fantastic days when he met up with the blah blahs and the oolooks. They were strange creatures who were led by Chief Click-click and there were really unusual things like vroom vrooms.

"I'm not making this up!" declared Uncle Fearless, but no one believe him except his little ones. Ever since the eagle owl attack took out his eye and practically killed him he was a nobody to the Sharpeyes. Queen Heartless no longer wanted him as king and took his younger brother, Chancer, as king. Uncle Fearless was nothing but an old washed up babysitter who made up stories. He was once a fearless king, but no one believed this one-eyed fool. "We're going on an adventure," exclaimed Little Dream. They had dug up a mysterious egg chamber and crossing the desert to see those blah blahs and oolooks would prove that Uncle Fearless was really a king. Was he really a king or just a BIG liar?

This a fabulously fun and zany adventure with Uncle Fearless and the meerkat pups. Uncle Fearless and his "adopted" pups are considered to be a bunch of misfits in Sharpeye society, but the discerning young reader instinctively knows that the old meerkat is no fool. Of course the trick is, is to cross that mighty desert and prove to everyone that his Glory Days were the real thing. The story line is told from the vantage point of the meerkats who think blah blahs and oolooks (humans) and their vroom vrooms (cars) and quite odd. Young adventurous readers will certainly enjoy this zany bunch and will learn a lot about meerkats in the process.
