Highly recommend for classroom teachers!

My 8 and 10 year old read this book together immediately after receiving it. WE LOVE IT!! As a teacher and mom, I appreciate the simple text, but that the author didn't shy away from great vocabulary (flummoxed, deflated). Additionally, it is super clever that once the question mark shows up, she speaks in nothing but QUESTIONS! This book begs for rereading so you can linger to notice the facial expressions of each period and the way the exclamation mark changes from the beginning to the end. Highly recommend for K-2 teachers who are trying to get the point across in terms of teaching varying types of punctuation marks. However, older students can also benefit from the way the author uses humor that younger kids will miss as well as to address those students who OVERUSE exclamation marks. I plan to do an author study of Amy Krouse Rosenthal next month to explore her other titles with my first graders.

Cute, short story with simple illustrations

My 2.5 year old loves this book and the humor is amusing to me too. You have to read with a lot of emotion to really make it enjoyable. It's fairly short. I think it is most suitable for kids who understand punctuation or are curious in learning about it. We got this after my son started pointing out punctuation in books we were reading and this helps drive home what they do. I think the personification helps.

I love this book

Oh my goodness, I love this book!!! We all may not be the same, but we fit in somewhere. What a great message delivered in such a funny and wonderful way. My kindergarteners loved it, my second grade daughter loved it and I loved it!!

My Family Loves This Book!

As a big kid myself, it's hard for me to contain my excitement when one of my kids choose Exclamation Mark for a midday or bedtime story. The level of creativity to take something as simple as a punctuation mark and make it into something extraordinary is awe-inspiring. I highly recommend Rosenthal's book to any parent looking for a children's book off the beaten path!

Finally found it after years of searching!

I love this book. I ran across this book in high school (?) possibly junior high, and have been trying to track it down since. (I wasn't sure what it was called, only vague memories of what the pages looked like...) When I found it, I bought it and it is as good as I remembered it being. I have added it to my growing collection of children's books for my future children.

I love owning a new copy of this family treasure for children and grandchildren. I am going to give it as a Christmas present to help continue the tradition of reading this treasure of a sweet book to young children in our family.

I bought the Angus books on a whim because I remembered reading and enjoying Marjorie Flack's "Ping" as a child. They are now my four-year-old daughter's favorite stories and we read them several times a week! They're short enough that reading three at bedtime isn't a problem, and entertaining enough that even my husband will sit down to listen while we read. Highly recommend.

An old family favorite, purchased for the newest generation!

This darling book has just enough dialog, and just enough detail in its illustrations, to engage young children's imaginations and suggest fun discussions between the listener and the reader. There are three books in all - Angus and the Cat, Angus and the Ducks, and Angus Lost, each equally charming. Our children and grandchildren have loved them!

I chose this rating because it to my liking I love books like this. I would recommend this book to people who love fantasy and adventure.

I Could Read This For Myself (I did), or Read It To My Granddaughter (I will)

I read this in one sitting as I was pulled along by the pace and the unexpected turns. It keeps getting better as more and more characters are introduced and you get to know their individual quirks, all within the framework of a universal story whose course is predetermined. It's down to earth, historical and anthropological. It's also a myth, a fantasy for kids and a parable for adults. All that and a lot of fun too. Kids riding animals. Fighting trees. Magic. Listening to the wind.

Must read for your family.

This book has lots of twists and turns throughout the plot of the book. We read this book as a family with a 8 year old and 11 year old. Both seemed to be engaged and wondering what would happen next. The characters captured us. We would recommend this to young and old.

Morals and lessons promote higher level thinking.

This is a magnificent book of tales that I recommend for all ages. Although the book is masked as a story for children, it contains lessons and morals for any adult that cares to embrace it. The book promotes higher thinking towards the big topic of how others should treat fellow humans and Mother Earth. It causes the reader to ask himself, have I been selfish lately, and, is there more I can do to benefit the earth and others?

The elements of fantasy in the story keep the big issues lighthearted and help the reader connect with the characters.

This is a great book for a teacher to bring into the classroom.

Who wouldn't love this trio of Giants

On the trail of Giants is ostensibly a collection of bedtime stories - but like the Grimm Bros output, they work on many levels, and can be appreciated by readers and listeners of any age. Intricate twists and turns not only describe the plots of the stories but also the clever and surprising language in which they are told. I loved this book and so did my daughter, age 5. These stories are crying out for an audiobook version, and I hope plans for that format are afoot.
