A book with a moral and a sense of humor - good adaptation of a classic tale!

The book is good quality and the colors in the illustrations are very vibrant. It's a quick and easy read and I am sure he will love it. I bought this for my 4 year old nephew because he loves a good bedtime story. He has been very ornery and less than honest in his interactions lately. My thought is, maybe a book with a moral and a sense of humor will hit home with him. Even if it doesn't solve this dishonesty phase he's going through, I can tell by thumbing through it that he will love the story.

Quick, cozy read

Tate's so mad after her first week at a new school that she just has to run off her anger. But then she steps through the rotted-out cover of an old well and lands in the water -- water that, it turns out, has special magic. Suddenly Tate's thinking, reading, and planning faster than she ever has before. But the magic has a downside, too -- one that will require all three of her siblings' help to conquer.

This is a quick, cozy read with enough suspense to keep children turning the pages but not enough to scare. What it lacks in humor it makes up for in creativity, and the siblings' relationships and Tate's love of books are admirable. While this is the fourth in the series, it stands on its own quite nicely, with few references to earlier adventures.

A fast paced and thrilling adventure

When Tate fell into a deserted well and drank some of its water, she was obsessed with anything that is liquid. With the magic in her, she was able to perform all things that were impossible to her earlier and felt amazing. However, when her brother and sister also drank the water and almost ended in fatal accident, and she saved them just in the nick of time, she understood that magic could be disastrous. Parents could use this book to illustrate to their children that although it is great to have magical ability, nevertheless, magic need to be controlled.

What a wonderful adventure with Missygirl and her friends! Loved the author's use of descriptive phrasing. The wisdom that eludes modern courts

I love this story. I use it in late November-early December in my primary music classes when we sing songs from various winter celebrations. My students are wholly unfamiliar with Judaism, and I'm very careful not to proselytize, but they are intrigued by the menorah, the imagined smell of latkes, and the dreydl game. The illustrations of this book give a sense of candlelight in the darkness.

In the Month of Kislev

I loved this story and I highly recommend it. While it does deal with the Jewish holiday of Hannakah, it also is a much more meaningful story about kindness to others.
