Enchanting

With flute, drums and other instruments, this troupe of storytellers, weave tribal stories about lessons of life. Each story has a meaning about aspects of growing in spirit. The listener is enlightened by tales of magic, star people, animals and birds in the natural world and otherwise. The stories teach the listener of the rewards of courage, gratitude, and love. Each had a different message within the story presented. This is the way the Elders taught the children.

I found listening to this type of presentation relaxing and entertaining. Easy to take in one or more at a session.

Great stories, just a bit too short.

I could really enjoy the actors. The voices were never too silly or overacting so even as an adult I could enjoy it. Wish it were twice as long!

Great series

My daughter read this and the other book for AR. She loved every one of them. It took her less than a week to read each one. It was great when she would run and tell me what was happening in the story. She can't wait for the next edition.

An amazing next step!

This is the 2nd in the Guardians of Childhood book and it's where we are introduced to the Pooka that will some day become the Easter Bunny. It's a great follow up to the first chapter book which features a swashbuckling santa claus (pre-santa claus). This is such an enjoyable and quick read, a great choice to read to your kid at bedtime and you will probably enjoy it just as much as they do! I highly recommend purchasing this and saving a spot on your shelves for it.

I would recommend E.Aster Bunnymund to young readers, as my granddaughter has enjoyed two books of this series and is looking forward to the next one she receives. I recommend this book to all people of all ages. Mr. and Mrs. Bunny is a literary gem if there ever was one. My family and I listen to this book at least once a year on car trips. Giggles galore!

Cute, funny book, with horrible narration . . .

I love this author, but hate that she narrated this book. The voice she uses is a bit to cutesy, she doesn't distinguish very well between the voices of the different characters, and she also lisps and slurs her words together. I wanted to laugh while listening because the book really is quite funny, but the narration was too irritating. I'll just read the next book.

Classical Fancy Nancy

What made the experience of listening to Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet the most enjoyable?

Cuddling up with my 7 year old daughter as we listened to the story and having her follow along in her book. (She absolutely adores Fancy Nancy)

Here is a compilation of famous English fairy tales. Although they employed fantasy and often showcased young protagonists, fairy tales were originally meant for adults. Over time the stories grew familiar, moving from strange to charming, and becoming escapist morality plays for all. Some beloved fairy tales originated in England. Narrator Joanna Daniell does justice to each story here. Her voice has a warm, mature timbre. She performs the stories at a leisurely pace so that young listeners can follow along, and older ones can relish the wonderful quirkiness of each piece. And Daniell very convincingly manifests an assortment of quaint characters, many of whom have thick colloquial accents. Her flexible voice slips back and forth between dialogue and narrative with ease.

Great book! Easy to read!

History for Kids

Where Do You Think Youâre Going, Christopher Columbus? tells the story of Christopher Columbus. It is made a bit gentle for kids, but does not shy away from things like capturing natives and sending them to Spain to be sold as slaves. Like all books by Jean Fritz, itâs easy to read and understand. I highly recommend this book for kids learning about Christopher Columbus or the opening of exploration of the new world by Europe.

A "Living" Book for History Study

Where Do You Think You're Going, Christopher Columbus? is a book which gives an overview of the man and his voyages. It is friendly, approachable, and witty.

It gently pokes fun at Columbus and his ego- and ethnocentric view of the world, like when the author pointed out how shocking Columbus found the naked natives to be, and vice versa.

It displays the role his religious beliefs played in his explorations and actions. For example, when his first voyage went well he believed it was a miracle, but when his second voyage went poorly he thought God was punishing him for his prideful behavior. Because of this he took to wearing a scratchy shirt and monk's robe instead of his normal clothes.

It includes fun details that make the scenes real, like informing the readers that Columbus took cats on voyages to control the shipboard rats.

While it doesn't specifically detail any atrocities, it does tell of Columbus taking native slaves, and of the Spaniards left behind being massacred. Overall, it is a balanced and enjoyable tale to share with students of a broad age range to make this part of history come alive.

If you have a chance to hear the recording read by Jean Fritz it is delightful.

Christopher Columbus was not the nice adventurer I assumed he was

This book was eye opening for the kids and me. Christopher Columbus was not the nice adventurer I assumed he was. In fact he was rather vicious. My girls are almost 11yrs old. They both enjoyed learning about Christopher Columbus and it was a quick read for both of them. I believe they finished it in a couple days.

Good book, not my style

This was a neat book, with many little-known facts about the explorer. I found myself bored sometimes, but I'm not totally into explorers.

What made the experience of listening to A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons the most enjoyable?

Although David Tennant was marvelous once again, and Cressida Cowell's story was as engaging as ever, it was dissappointing that this was *not* an unabridged version. The end seemed very sudden, which was explained when we discovered that the book goes on further. I don't know what else might have been missed.

Everything David Tennant does is marvelous (I've listened to everything available on Audible). This recording is no exception. I have a hard time waiting for hm to record each book in the Cowell series as it gets published.

This audiobook has been missing the last 20 minutes for a long time. It is now complete, so any reviews that state it is incomplete are outdated. I love this series by Cressida Cowell. The books are hilarious, exciting and touching. It is also worth noting that the music in the entire series is really good, which is not something I expect from audiobooks. I recommend buying all of them! They just get better and better. Cowell's website gives the order of the books, starting with "How to Train Your Dragon."

My son loves all the How to Train Your Dragon books, but with this one he was left hanging because chapter 19 was left out of the reading. This makes a very BIG difference especially due to the fact that he was following along with the actual book.

Silly, good time!

I cannot say enough good things about this series! I envy Cressida Cowell because she is having a great time doing what she loves. These books are over the top silly and highly entertaining. David Tennant is the perfect narrator for these books.
