First Book is misleading

What would have made Five Glass Slippers better?

Starting off with a different story.

Would you recommend Five Glass Slippers to your friends? Why or why not?

I would but I would tell them to skip books 1 and 3. The rest of the books were such lovely retelling of Cinderella going from space and steam punkish to magic and a circus.

Overall it was good. At fist I thought that it was the reader who was terrible and not the first story, then I realized the first story sucked and the reader was decent. There was a lot of improvement as the stories went on.

Delightful!

This was an enchanting collection of retold Cinderella stories, each one unique but also keeping true to the original fairy tale. A good collection to have playing in the car while driving to and from work.

what a mind trip

I loved it there are zombies and crazy people. This is a great read if you like the apocalypse and everything that comes after. It is not your run of the mill zombies though and that makes this book that much better. By the end I was shocked, a little disgusted, and waiting to see where the next book will go.

Mark Henry's Carniepunk short is fabulously dark and twisty

I'm a big fan of the Carniepunk anthology. BIG! I definitely recommend it to anyone who's a fan of urban fantasy in general.

Mark Henry's "The Sweeter the Juice" was one of my personal favorites in the collection. Based on my liking his earlier work I did have quite high expectations for this twisted little zombie tale and Henry came through big time. The story is set in the midst of a zombie apocalypse and is quite a nasty little tale. If you're new to Henry's work you have been warned. If you're a fan of his Amanda Feral series, dive in and enjoy!

Hell hounds make horrible pets

This was a fun little story for me. You start with three high school kids wanting to help out an elderly man fix up his house for a school project. What they didnât expect to find was a Hell hound. In the end, this is a story about a spurned lover who tries to kill the object of her affection by using a portal to hell. Nothing says love like trying to turn a former flame into Hell hound puppy chow.

The characters had limited back story, but were not flat and lifeless. While the pace was fairly quick, there was never the sense that the story was rushed or various details could have been expanded upon. Even though the story was short and quick, it was still entertaining. I look forward to reading other tales that come from Sardis County.

I can't even share all that I love without giving away the best parts! Lemme just say this - Hellmouth. Buffy. Jackson's basement. Hell hounds. Demons. Good vs evil. A real, live witch living in their small town. Old and new love.

Retief rides again

Retief is supposed to be a diplomat, but really he is more like an unauthorized action hero in a tux. It's 50s sci-fi and needs to be read as a period piece. Also note that this is a pricey 40 minute story.

Unfortunately, the voice actor is the worst I have ever heard. Amazing. Check the sample before you buy. Maybe you'll like it. Stranger things have happened.
