    Title: Veronica Britton
    Author: Niall Boyce
    Narrator: Clare Corbett

Length: 8 hrs and 6 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-16-12
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 2.5 of 5 out of 6 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Veronica Britton is a Victorian private detective, a specialist in untangling tricky situations that occur in time as well as space. Working alongside her young apprentice Gabrielle Pendleton, she's very much in demand: if a necklace goes missing and you suspect that someone is selling it off in the future as a valuable antique, or you find yourself being blackmailed by someone who knows a little too much about your past, she's your woman.
Smart, efficient and (almost) always discreet, Veronica is the best chronic detective in London. Time travel is an open secret in the city and operates under the supervision of the Ministry, an obscure branch of the British government. Veronica does her best to avoid the Ministrys agents, but recently they have started to follow her a little too closely. As she navigates the timepools of London, Veronica soon uncovers a series of mysteries that are strangely interconnected; a fiendish plot that threatens not just the city, but the whole world. Only by facing up to the secrets of her past can Veronica Britton save the future.
Veronica Britton is steam punk at its best: smart, funny and escapist, with a little something for everyone to enjoy.

A Time Travel Short Story Collection
This isn't a novel but a series of short stories. This also isn't steampunk, but rather a fairly standard time travel/"end-of-the- world as we know it" disaster stories, It was pretty good up until the last story "the Empire" I think that the author was trying to interweave 4-5 plots and about 8 main characters and have everyone telling their part in first person. It didn't work, because the point of view character abruptly changed every few paragraphs (or sometimes every few pages) and it wasn't obvious when this occurred. It was bewildering and gave me a headache. This may have worked better on the written page, but I doubt it.
The narrator wasn't very good. Veronica and Gabby (and all of the other young women) had essentially the same voices as did most of the male characters.
    Not what I expected
This is serious sci-fi. I was not expecting that. I admit I chose this book because of the narrator. I'd just finished another book she narrated and she did all of the voices so well, I thought I'd see what else she had recorded. I thought this was one I would enjoy. I was really disappointed. It is sci-fi, and not even good sci-fi...
Time Travelling Detective. Not what you'll expect.
I really enjoyed this book, it bounces about willy-nilly through time with gay abandon while the big picture gradually reveals itself. And what a big picture it is!
When the book ended I was left wanting a couple of questions answered and a sense of wondering if a sequel was possible, I don't know, there was also a strong sense of finality as well.
I was also somewhat in awe of the mind that could conceive such a complex idea and put it on paper. I was reminded a little of The Time Traveller's Wife which is also a stunning concept well written.
The characters are well rounded, likeable and believable.

An Interesting Twist On The Zombie Trend
This audiobook was provided to me by Audiobook Jukebox for review.
Unlike most zombie books this one does not start on Earth, instead it is on another planet, Caldor, which is essentially one big city and uses advanaced technology for just about everything. The way the zombie disease arrives and spreads is actually quite interesting, people use transmission pads to transport to and from places and it is the use of one of these new pads that brings the zombie disease onto Caldor. It is certainly not the typical start to a zombie story and the way it spreads so quickly using this everyday technology puts the entire planet in chaos in a matter of hours. With technology being not only the source of the initial infected person but the way it is spread to so many so quickly it gives the plague an eerie efficiency.
Likely the most interesting twist of all in the whole story is that its not just humans who get infected, but the technology they use as well. One would think something like zombies would be restricted to sentient beings, but in this case it is not and that in itself proved to be a nice difference from other zombie stories.
There were a number of characters introduced throughout the span of the book though each chapter focused on a certain character. The stories of each character became woven together, some right away, others closer to the end. I cant say that there were any characters that leapt out at me as being truly amazing, but they each lent something to the story which made it flow smoothly through the events.
The narration of the story was decent. I found that the narrator, Andrew Wehrlen, had a good voice to listen to however he spoke quite fast and there were times where the speed in which he spoke made me almost miss parts of the story. A bit slower narration would have made the overall experience of this audiobook better. The downside to the book. It was short, a little too short. The chapters were really fast and seemed to fly by way too fast even though the story steadily moved forward.
The ending was a bit lackluster and in fact considering how short this book was it felt like the author broke it into two or more parts simply to make a series, which are growing in popularity over stand alone books, when it could easily have been done in a single book. Nonetheless it was an interesting book and a nice twist on the zombie genre. However if you are looking for a quick zombie read that is different and leads to more than this book is a good choice.

    Publisher: Audible Studios

    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Ex-mercenary, pirate, and gun-runner Dante Bogart knows he's screwed the pooch after he hands one of his shady employers a biological weapon that made the dead rise from their graves, laugh like hyenas, and feast upon the living. Dante tried to blow the whistle via a tell-all video that went viral - but that was before the black ops boys deep-sixed him at a secret interrogation site on the Panama-Colombia border. When Dante wakes up in the jungle with the five intervening years missing from his memory, he knows he's got to do something about the laughing sickness that has caused a world-wide slaughter.
The resulting journey leads him across the nightmare that was the Panama Canal, around Cape Horn in a hijacked nuclear warship, to San Francisco's mission district, where a crew of survivalist hackers have holed up in the pseudo-Moorish-castle turned porn-studio known as The Armory. This mixed band of anti-social rejects has taken Dante's whistle blowing video as an underground gospel, leading the fight against the laughing corpses and the corporate stooges who've tried to profit from the slaughter. Can Dante find redemption and save civilization?
    Editorial Reviews:
Dante Bogart knows that he is partially responsible for the plague of laughing zombies destroying humanity, and in spite of the best efforts by the people he used to trust, he is going to do everything it takes to stop them. Thomas S. Roche's zombie apocalypse tale is a pulpy delight elevated by the phenomenal performance of Andy Caploe, whose gritty conviction to the scenario elevates Dante as a gruff, embattled hero. Caploe's bravado enhances the drama and subversive wit in The Panama Laugh, a riotous, entertaining story of retribution and revenge.

    LOL
The Panama Laugh is brilliantly imagined apocalypse fiction; it's greed gone wild. Thomas Roche's action/adventure zombie book is completely rendered and cinematic in scale and it's both one of the funniest and most terrifying books I've read. I'm not going to go into the plot because the other reviews do that very well. I will say that it's a reading adventure that starts out with a bang and doesn't let up. Chapters alternate between past and present until the reader gets the complete picture of the anti-hero's backstory and world. It's a very terrifying world; the military politics and 1% are upsettingly close to reality and you can almost see something like this happening. Well -- maybe not zombies, but who knows? It's a roller coaster ride that speeds you along.
I also love the hat tip to a current popular porn empire, as well as the ever present lunatic fringe of our world. So, why four stars? Why not five? The story, the plot, the fully rendered characters, the sheer cleverness are all worth five stars plus, but I was jolted from the world too often by a lack of competent editing. If it were cleaned up a little, this book could be a runaway best seller. It also cries out for a film treatment. Here's hoping the right people discover it so we can go see it on the big screen.
Grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go!
The Panama Laugh has been high on my to-read list for a bit, but it moved up in the queue because Paul Goat Allen (of Barnes and Noble) said it was awesome.

The third of three. This is the culmination of a series and I did not care for the ending at all. It does seem as though the Prophet wins by dying and leaving the worst pope of all time as the last one to lose.

    Great read!
The story is well written with a premise that keeps you going until the end. I recommend this one, Farris you have a hit.
    Guilty pleasure, sweeping adventure
I first read this as a kid in the 80s and was enspelled by the premise, settings and interesting characters.
It translates well enough as an audiobook though I wasn't sure if the reader is unfamiliar with the regional African speech or the opposite, accustomed to American and Irish speech solely through Western and other movies. He also repeatedly displayed the inability to pronounce "calisthenics" and other words, including "cheetah", which he said as "CHEET-tah." It wouldn't be so annoying had cheetahs not been so key in parts.
That aside, he did an excellent job of voice differentiation between characters and genders and was enjoyable overall.
I've always wondered why this book is listed under horror. Aside from some violence, there is nothing of the genre to be found here. It is an adventure and survival story with Cold War espionage and politics as well as the struggle of beleaguered African nations to self actualize and compete globally. Mostly though, it is straight-up adventure with unusual characters and striking imagery.

    What the hell happened?!
Solid, well-written and action-packed, with a lesbian and heavy firepower. These are a few of my favorite things. But what happened?! It should have been longer, because there are far too many unanswered questions as to what was actually going down. Very frustrating. Also, Randy Hames is a wonderful narrator, though perhaps too gravelly for female characters.

Unbelievable... and not in a good way
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who has no interest in character development, a semi-believeable plot, or anything beyond a superficial story may enjoy it. The premise is interesting, but the execution is awful.
What was most disappointing about Eddie Upnicks story?
The utter destruction of my suspension of disbelief was the most disappointing part of the story. I love science fiction, but it has to have at least an ounce of plausibility or else the reader (listener) is unable to remain immersed in the story. In addition to that, the characters were one-dimensional, boring, and not memorable. Major historical figures (FDR, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, even Adolf Hitler) were all caricatures that seemed to be created from superficial research of their personalities and histories.
What about David Doerschs performance did you like?
His accents were pretty well done and his pace was good. I especially liked the voice he used for Einstein.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Time Will Tell?
The main scene that pushed me over the edge from at least still being amused by the train-wreck of a story to actually feeling like I wasted my time listening to the book is when Svetlana, the mother of the boy with cancer, "repays" the main character for helping her son. It was over the top and borderline offensive. I only continued pushing through because I paid for the book, but I wish I had just stopped then.
    Any additional comments?
I wish I had something better to say about this book because I was excited by the introductory synopsis. The premise seemed interesting and had so much potential. There are some interesting ideas in the book, but there aren't many and they are lost in the sprint from one ridiculous scene to the next.
I take some blame for not noticing the last line of the synopsis when I chose to give this book a try, "After the war, the lives of everyone on Earth are threatened by powerful aliens with their own designs for our planet." I either didn't read it initially or forgot about it because when the aliens showed up, I literally yelled, "What?" It was an unpleasant surprise and just made the story even more ridiculous.
    Great action packed sci-fi thriller!
What made the experience of listening to Time Will Tell the most enjoyable?
    The story and the narration.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Time Will Tell?
When Jeff had lunch with Hitler.
What about David Doerschs performance did you like?
    Excellent.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Both.

In the midst of a catastrophe the world has never seen the likes of before, one woman will stop at nothing to protect her family....
When miners release an ancient and deadly virus, Lori, a nurse, finds herself at ground zero of a deadly battle for survival. With time running out, can Lori find the strength to fight an ever-increasing enemy and save her family?
A fast-paced, exhilarating ride through a zombie apocalypse, this story asks the question: what would you do to save the people you love?
    Editorial Reviews:
When a group of miners are admitted to Lori Nelson's hospital, they unleash a virus contracted from their work in the rainforests near Cairns, Australia. Soon, the dead have risen and taken over the entire city, and Lori will stop at nothing to save herself and her family from this great danger. Sue Edge creates a refreshingly believable heroine, an average mother and nurse pushed into an extraordinary circumstance, and Cynthia Barrett's sweet and unassuming drawl helps to highlight that Lori is not your typical hero, making Dead Tropics an exciting twist on the zombie genre.
    Critic Reviews:
"...a soul-wrenching tale of survival. Treat yourself to a rip-roaring, relentless tale and unforgettable characters." (Stephen North, author of Dead Tide)
    Members Reviews:
Mostly just a 'run from zombies' book, but not bad
Listen to the sample first!!! It's read with a regional access, slowed down for US audiences. You may like it, you may not.
The writing is good, if uninspired. The plot is thin. Zombie plague starts, good person takes early action, group of people go through a long series of running battles and brief hiding places until the end.
On the positive side, there are actual characters here, not cardboard cutouts. There's a reasonable attempt at making people into real people with motivations and thoughts. It's not Hemmingway, but this is a zombie book so what do you want?
The "rules" for zombies are fairly self consistent and the action isn't too unbelievable. It's not a bad romp. There is a very, very, small amount of romantic reference in the book but not enough that you'd need to keep young teens away from.
One of the BEST Zombie Tales Yet...
I've read ALOT of zombie novels and have started listening to them on Audible too (thank you Audible!) and this is one of the most engaging ones yet! Sue absolutely knows how to tell a story that grabs you from the beginning and takes you on a wild and wonderful ride through to the end. Her characters are likeable and she made me care what happened to them. I particularly like the heroine of her story, Lori, who is basically a Mom trying to save her family and is easily relatable. I've read so many zombie novels and horror novels in general that I'm not easily creeped out but there were places in this story that definitely made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and made me wonder if I really want to do housesitting out in the country by myself surrounded by way too many windows! I cared enough about the characters that there was also a part that had me desperately and discreetly wiping the tears out of my eyes before anyone could wonder why I was crying while I typed away on my keyboard doing mindless work.
