Subtitle: Using Conversation to Master Confrontation
Author: Kathleen Reardon, Christopher T. Noblet

Length: 7 hrs and 27 mins

    Publisher's Summary:
Here is the workplace guide to putting "I wish I'd said" moments in the past.
Ever wish that you could have a "do over" after a conversation at work? Do you often find yourself regretting what you've said to a coworker - or kicking yourself for not saying something better, stronger, or more precise? If so, you're like most people, and in Comebacks at Work, management professor and consultant Kathleen Kelley Reardon, Ph.D., provides the tips and tools you need to know what to say - and how to say it better - next time.
In this compelling, entertaining book, Reardon argues that we are responsible for 75 percent of the way we're treated at work, and our success - or failure - at the workplace depends largely on how we handle ourselves in conversation with our colleagues. To break free of the stale scripts and expected actions that allow politically astute people to manipulate us, we must increase our conversational awareness and effectively employ what Reardon calls "comebacks".
Comebacks at Work provides a game plan for doing so and explains:
Every conversation is different, and while many situations are common, one set of comebacks isn't enough. Offering a personalized repertoire of comebacks and a plan for using them strategically as well as the skills you will need to package them for maximum effect, Comebacks at Work will prepare you for any difficult conversation that comes your way.

Overflowing with Challenging Situations - MASTERED
Stories of challenging situations come to life with a variety of solutions, matched with practical tools that arm the listener. The "Comebacks" title caused met to hesitate since it conjured up images of the perfect zinger. I was looking for exactly what I got, seven hours of personal counseling on communicating more effectively despite the challenges presented.
While comebacks seemed a bit misleading initially, the book is true to its namesake by providing memorable "zingers" along with keys to analyze a comment that often paralyzes us or triggers self destructive responses. Intent and intensity of the confrontation allows you to focus on appropriate comeback decisions that not only serve to defend, they actually can garner respect and promote your image. Susan Ericksen's narration convinced me to purchase, and I am very grateful for this amazing personal growth opportunity. Very engaging narration made the learning even more enjoyable. I highly recommend.
Like a Fly on the Wall in my Company
Would you listen to Comebacks at Work again? Why?
Yes! This book gave great REALISTIC examples of EVERYDAY confrontational situations. The examples and reasoning to utilize a specific response was broken down and analyzed for you and helped you to learn to do it yourself! It is the perfect book to not only learn how to handle these type situations but ideal as a refresher tool. Great Book!!!

The book flowed smoothly from one enlightening point to the next, balancing theoretical information with practical things to say when put on the spot.

Title: The Book of Five Rings

    Release date: 06-30-10
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 570 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
Setting down his thoughts on swordplay, on winning, and on spirituality, legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi intended this modest work as a guide for his immediate disciples and future generations of samurai. He had little idea he was penning a masterpiece that would be eagerly devoured by people in all walks of life centuries after his death.
Along with The Art of War by Sun Tzu, The Book of Five Rings has long been regarded as an invaluable treatise on the strategy of winning. Musashi's timeless advice on defeating an adversary, throwing an opponent off-guard, creating confusion, and other techniques for overpowering an assailant was addressed to readers of earlier times on the battlefield and now serves the modern listener in the battle of life.
In this new rendering by the translator of Hagakure and The Unfettered Mind, William Scott Wilson adheres rigorously to the 17th-century Japanese text and clarifies points of ambiguity in earlier translations. In addition, he offers an extensive introduction and a translation of Musashi's rarely published The Way of Walking Alone.
    Critic Reviews:
"On Wall Street, when Musashi talks, people listen." (Time)

Great guide for a great mindset
Great work, it is quite short though. A lot of the information you will have to investigate thoroughly elsewhere. However, he does put you on the right course for a winning mind set. Really insight into the mind of a man who won over 60 life and death fights.
    A classic must read

A great audio book that's short but containing practical information. Something to review multiple times. Good book!
    Great for disciplining the mind
Though I may not practice anything with a sword this translation of musashis' "book of five rings" helped sharpen my hand to hand skills and organized my dad to day life by learning such rhythms.

    Excellent technical review
I listened to this audiobook as a review in preparation for the CompTia Network+ exam. It is an excellent review of the concepts that I learned when I took a college class about networking.
The lecture series focuses on the technical specifications that are easily forgotten. Examples of this are various types of cables, various protocols and how they function and interrelate, standards and what they apply to, functions of various command line prompts, etc.
I haven't taken the exam yet, but I would NOT use this as my sole source of information for the exam. This is a REVIEW. This is NOT a course.
The narration was good for such a technical topic. I didn't find it too sing-songy or flat, and the cadence kept me engaged with the material. The brevity of the lectures makes the audiobook perfect for a quick review that you can listen to over and over again in preparation for the test. At least, that's how I intend to use it.
Out of date, and not very thorough.
This was recorded for an older version of the N+ exam, so it is missing many current things. Also, the speaker often references visual literature that I wasn't able to find (I didn't look very hard). All in all, this is a good refresher for when you're driving, but I wouldn't use this as a major study aid.
nice, but the reader really should of slowed down
If you could sum up CompTIA Network+ (N10-004) Lecture Series in three words, what would they be?
I really enjoyed this book, I think it was good, but the information is out of date. The other thing that bugged me was how quick the author read through everything, I think when you get to the abbreviations for things, it helps you remember what they stand for and what they do, when you slow down a bit while reading or talking to learn them. It was a nice little thing to spend the free credit on but...

Length: 7 hrs and 48 mins

    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 69 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
One of the country's most eminent practitioners of the art and science of negotiation offers practical advice for the most challenging conflicts - when you are facing an adversary you don't trust, who may harm you, or who you may even feel is evil.
The head of Harvard's famed Program on Negotiation, Robert Mnookin provides tools for confronting devils of all kinds - in business, politics, and family life. Bargaining with the Devil guides the listener on how to make wise decisions about whether to negotiate or fight. Mnookin explains what it means to make a "wise decision" and identifies the emotional, strategic, and political traps to avoid.
Drawing from a remarkable range of real-life stories, Mnookin offers his thoughtful guidance in disputes of all sorts where the temptation is to demonize: The CEO of a small high-tech company learns that his joint-venture partner, a big foreign corporation, has been secretly cheating him under a license agreement; IBM discovers that Fujitsu, its largest competitor, has copied its software; the San Francisco Symphony is torn apart by poisoned labor-management relations; divorcing spouses, each feeling wounded and betrayed, disagree about custody and support; three siblings are in conflict about what to do with a jointly inherited vacation property.
Mnookin also examines decisions made in conflicts with evil regimes, where lives and liberty were at stake. This lively, informative, indispensable book identifies the tools one needs to make wise decisions about life's most challenging conflicts.
    Members Reviews:
Important Topic, but I Now Hate Case Studies
The book asks the fundamental question, when you should bargain with someone who is evil, either someone who is not bargaining in good faith or someone who might escape justice through negotiation. His answer is more often than you and I probably do but clearly not always. Sometimes you have to dig in and fight. It???s just that we tend to do that too much.
I???ve recently notices people taking pot-shots at the case study method. A Harvard graduate writing about Wall Street devotes several pages to condemnation of the case study method. In another instance an author demonizes Clayton Christenson (a personal hero) for his public defense of the case study method. I wondered what was going on, and where were the editors. But after reading this book I???m ready to make a small political donation to the anti-case-study league.
I found it painful to listen to 30 pages of story, for example about some couple getting divorced, for the 3 pages of payoff at the end where the author somewhat weakly attempts a synthesis. Perhaps its age; by I have plenty of stories to throw against the authors ideas, and I don???t usually rebel against any idea I can???t pretend is my own.
so many better books on negotiating out there.
this book is fine if you have already plowed through all of the classics and all of the new ones books on negotiating strategy and preparation. it is taught as a series of cases but none of which are particularly easy to follow or relevant
Interesting but does not live up to its title
I liked that this book explored dealing with opponents who you have a negative visceral response to. It seemed that the stories (which were very interesting) were longer than the few ideas presented here.

"Here is wise advice and counsel on an ethical and prosperous way of being in the workday world based on Tibetan Buddhist principles." (Spirituality and Health)

Business book for all businessmen MUST to read
Really, even though I am not a Buddhist, listening to this book completely changed my perspective on running the business in general. It can be done differently and enjoyably and I cant wait to put what I learned here into practice. Thank you Geshe Michael.
    Spiritual Materialism
I teach Buddhism and have done so for 30 years. The essence of the Buddha's teaching is that suffering is reduced by accepting things as they are. This book is akin to the new age "classic" The Secret. In The Diamond Cutter, the author provides a number of very specific inner and outer behaviors that will supposedly and magically change reality to fit a person's particular desires. The world simply does not work like this and this book bears almost no resemblance to the teachings of the Buddha.
    A Fantastic Book
A great look at business ethics and their effects through a Buddhist lens. A number of fantastic principles are discussed as well as interesting facts about the diamond businesses.
A book for every business person, regardless of your beliefs.
My only criticism was in the last section of the book, where famous and pseudo-famous people tell stories of their implementation of the principles and its effect on their lives and businesses; it seemed a little self promoting and a bit inconsistent with the way the rest of the the book was laid out.
Michael Roach, the author, received the Presidential Scholars Medallion from President Richard Nixon and graduated from Princeton University in 1974. He is an ordained Buddhist monk and received the geshe degree in 1995 from the Sera Monastery in India, being the first Westerner to do so.
Roach was also one of the founders at Andin International, an international diamond business in in New York, which grew from a $50,000 investment into a $100,000,000 business.
    Life Changing
This book contains a perfect explanation on one of the most important teachings in Buddhism. If you are looking for a book that can change your life and unlock your maximum potential THIS IS IT!
    Excellent content but substandard vocal
The vocal of this audible book is unaudiable, it sounds blur and unclear and put people to sleep. I believe the producer made a big mistake allowing the author to do the sound. It was horrible and hugely impact the value of the book.

    Publisher's Summary:
I've always been a big supporter of education. It is the foundation from which we build our lives. As a developer, I know how important the foundation is to the building. A firm foundation is absolutely necessary. It's something you cannot skimp on, or treat lightly, or rush through to get done.
Sometimes people are surprised when they find out that I am so serious about being well read and how much I emphasize education. The fact that there is an educational subtext in The Apprentice is the reason I agreed to do the show. I wanted there to be some substance along with the entertainment value. People of all ages learn lessons - business and otherwise - from watching and that has been a great source of pride for me.
That's one reason I write essays. They are a quick way to learn a thing or two or at least open the mind to thought. I may be successful already, but I learn something new every day. I also make the effort to learn every day. The theory behind my 'think big' credo is that if you want to build skyscrapers, or if you have big goals, you'd better have a good solid foundation to work from. These essays are one way to get that foundation in place and keep your life moving forward in the best way possible. It works for me, and I would hope it works for you.
    Sincerely,
    Donald Trump.
Over the years, Donald Trump has written many best-selling titles, and he has also written short pieces that summarize his singularly successful tenets on how to live the good life, both personally and professionally. These have been personally selected by Donald Trump for Think Like a Champion, giving his special perspective in what amounts to an "informal education" on how to succeed in business and life. The pieces are engaging, informative and educational, presenting the clearest picture yet into the mind and heart of an extraordinary individual.

Great food for business and life!
I enjoy this book and listen to it from time to time to sharpen my thinking about business principles and life habits.
Donald Trump is very open about his life.
Compliments to the narrator as well!
An abundance of critical information and insight
When learning to be a success, it is critically important to learn from those that have a long track record of great success. Thankfully, there are some successful people willing to share, at least some of what they've learned with others, in order that more people might have a greater chance of success, as well. Those willing to share positive information; that has the power to change the lives of others and by extension those around them for the better really do help make the world a better place. Success leaves clues, thank you Donald Trump for allowing many people to learn what you are willing to share; that has helped you become such a great example of success, particularly in family and faith and continuing business sucesses and never giving up and overcoming; even when facing odds that would have overwhelmed most others, by never giving up.

    Surprised...
I bought this book thinking it would be about investing. It isn't of course. I've never listened to 'self-help' before so I don't know much about the genre. I was encouraged by this book though, and would recommend it.
    Sound advice delivered with passion
Bob Proctor delivers sound advice that emphasizes the importance of mindset and action. He encourages readers to go beyond a regular job to experience the creativity and freedom that can come from being your own boss. While the advice may not necessarily be unfamiliar or new to some readers, it is the way he has synthesized the content that makes this book both helpful and motivating. Yes there are a few embedded plugs for his own services but this didn't bother me. If anything it was an inadvertent lesson in marketing. I think this book is especially suited to people who are thinking about starting their own business or are just starting out down this road. Finally, Bob Proctor's narration is very energetic and his passion definitely comes through here.
