Waste of my money, pretty annoyed!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Ugh i don't know, but this was not for me.
What was most disappointing about Jane B. Burka and Lenora M. Yuen s story?
Very cliched. All stuff i had heard before many many times, but made longer...which made it more boring!
    Any additional comments?
How ironic that a book about trying to cure procrastination - made me procrastinate! Trying to get thru this book was a huge chore but as i had spent so much on it i was determined to try. It was awful. I picked up a few small things but mostly this was nonsense and boring nonsense at that.
    Not as an audio book.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
    Different reader.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    The content is helpful.
    Any additional comments?
As a kindle book, fine. As an audio book, not so much. I bought the audio version so I could listen while riding the subway. The narrator's voice is grating. (Really? You couldn't get anyone better?) Also, you soon realize how often the word procrastinator is used in this book...and that's grating, too. "Be firm with the procrastinator." "If the procrastinator delays on something..." "Procrastinator. The procrastinator! I realize it's a book about procrastination, but... It's like listening to the song Roxanne. If I took a drink every time she said procrastinator.... And the way she says it and the way it's used... procrastinator starts sounding like...an evil, nasty person. Procrastinator! I had to shut it off.
    This Book Is Valuable
The book looks at procrastination from all angles giving the reader real and unique insights to the problem. They offer sensible, simple but thoughtful practices to help alleviate the problem.
    Great!
This was my first experience with an audio book. The sound was clear and the narration was understandable and enjoyable. The app is super convenient and easy to use. I'd like to listen to more books!
    Just like a therapy
What did you like best about this story?
This is a very good book, helped me a lot and I urged to write this review. Better listening than reading, feels just like a real therapy session!

According to studies by several different researchers, most of us encounter nearly 200 lies a day. Now theres something we can do about it. Liespotting links three disciplines - facial recognition training, interrogation training, and a comprehensive survey of research in the field - into a specialized body of information developed specifically to help business leaders detect deception and get the information they need to successfully conduct their most important interactions and transactions.
Some of the nation's leading business executives have learned to use these methods to root out lies in high stakes situations. Liespotting for the first time brings years of knowledge - previously found only in the intelligence community, police training academies, and universities - into the corporate boardroom, the manager's meeting, the job interview, the legal proceeding, and the deal negotiation.

    Great reminders!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The paperback of this book has been is a fantastic read. This format is good, if you want to revisit the chapters.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The pace of the narration is a bit odd, it's not quite a story but more a series of do's and don'ts. So it's a bit weird to listen to.
    Taking the High Road
I enjoyed listening and reading this book. I have it on my kindle and audible. It didn't sync, but I didn't care. (Different editions)
I'm having my staff read because everyone should know how to be civil. Forni explains this in a easy to understand manner. Including the 'what's in it for me'.
    Probably a better read
The information in this book is good, but I think it might be a better read than a listen. From the narration it seems that the actual book might be one of lists, highlighted boxes, and standard texts. This did not translate well into an audio book. I did finish the book, but am contemplating on getting a print version as reference and to skim over to see what I "lost in translation."
    Great book

    Title: Uncertainty
Subtitle: Turning Fear and Doubt into Fuel for Brilliance
    Author: Jonathan Fields

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 23 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-10-11
    Publisher: Gildan Media, LLC
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 85 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
Jonathan Fields knows the risks - and potential power - of uncertainty. He gave up a six-figure income as a lawyer to make $12 an hour as a personal trainer. Then, married with a three-month old baby, he signed a lease to launch a yoga center in the heart of New York City... the day before 9/11. But he survived, and along the way he developed a fresh approach to transforming uncertainty, risk of loss, and exposure to judgment into catalysts for innovation, creation, and achievement.
Properly understood and harnessed, fear and uncertainty can become fuel for creative genius rather than sources of pain, anxiety, and suffering. In business, art, and life, creating on a world-class level demands bold action and leaps of faith in the face of great uncertainty. But that uncertainty can lead to fear, anxiety, paralysis, and destruction. It can gut creativity and stifle innovation. It can keep you from taking the risks necessary to do great work and craft a deeply-rewarding life. And it can bring companies that rely on innovation grinding to a halt. That is, unless you know how to use it to your advantage. Fields draws on leading-edge technology, cognitive-science and ancient awareness-focusing techniques in a fresh, practical, non-dogmatic way. His approach enables creativity and productivity on an entirely different level and can turn the once-tortuous journey into a more enjoyable quest. Fields will reveal how to:
    Critic Reviews:
"Let's face it-the leap of faith required to follow a dream is usually accompanied by gut-wrenching, knee-quaking, soul-shaking fear. Jonathan Fields knows this-but instead of offering an empty pep talk, he delivers daily practices that can help you transform fear and uncertainty into confidence and creativity." (Daniel H. Pink, author of Drive and A Whole New Mind)
"Uncertainty; risk; exposure to criticism. How do you conquer this fearsome triad, so it doesn't block your path-even better, how do you harness its power to help you achieve your goals? Jonathan Fields uses perceptive analysis, fascinating case studies, and a series of exercises to illuminate how uncertainty can be used as an engine to power both innovation and creation." Publisher's Summary:
Ever wish you could captivate your boardroom with the opening line of your presentation, like Winston Churchill in his most memorable speeches? Or want to command attention by looming larger than life before your audience, much like Abraham Lincoln when, standing erect and wearing a top hat, he towered over seven feet? Now, you can master presentation skills, wow your audience, and shoot up the corporate ladder by unlocking the secrets of history's greatest speakers.
Author, historian, and world-renowned speaker James C. Humes - who wrote speeches for five American presidents - explains how great leaders through the ages used simple yet incredibly effective tricks to speak, persuade, and win throngs of fans and followers.
In this book, you'll discover how Napoleon Bonaparte mastered the use of the pregnant pause to grab attention, how Lady Margaret Thatcher punctuated her most serious speeches with the use of subtle props, how Ronald Reagan could win even the most hostile crowd with carefully timed wit, and much, much more. Whether you're addressing a small nation or a large staff meeting, you'll want to master the tips and tricks in Speak Like Churchill, Stand Like Lincoln.
    Critic Reviews:
"I love this book. I've followed Humes's lessons for years, and he combines them all into one compact, hard-hitting resource. Get this book on your desk now." (Chris Matthews)
    Members Reviews:
    WHAT SPEAKING IS ALL ABOUT
I've heard about a dozen books on speaking and this work contains the best advice I've ever heard. Mr. Humes draws on his decades of experience of writing speeches for Presidents to cut through the little mechanical details where most books get bogged down and hit the essence of audience reaction.
21 points are probably more than can be memorized. Don't worry about that; you won't use all those points. You'll likely use more than 10 of Humes' secrets depending on the type of speaking required in your engagements. But any 5 points will more than justify the time it takes to wade through the other ones.
Whether you speak to a small team or an arena, don't skip this book.
A must read in my book...
I love this book! As a teacher and presenter I'm always looking for information on improving my skills. This book absolutely does that. Mr. Hume covers all the aspects of a presentation the pause, the stand, the prop, the voice and uses historical characters like Lincoln and Churchill for examples of where these became very effective.
I have recommended this book to several of my colleagues, this book is that good.
A complete guide for speaker and leaders
It's a long book, but it is enjoyable and full of practical knowledge for anyone who gives speeches, leads teams, presents in front of large audiences, is a spokesperson or is a master of ceremonies.
Every key point in the book is illustrated with plenty of examples from recognized leaders.

    Publisher's Summary:
Today everyone whether they know it or not is in the emotional transportation business. More and more, success is won by creating compelling stories that have the power to move partners, shareholders, customers, and employees to action. Simply put, if you cant tell it, you cant sell it. And this book tells you how to do both.
Historically, stories have always been igniters of action, moving people to do things. But only recently has it become clear that purposeful stories those created with a specific mission in mind are absolutely essential in persuading others to support a vision, dream, or cause.
Peter Guber, whose executive and entrepreneurial accomplishments have made him a success in multiple industries, has long relied on purposeful storytelling to motivate, win over, shape, engage and sell. Indeed, what began as knack for telling stories as an entertainment industry executive has, through years of perspiration and inspiration, evolved into a set of principles that anyone can use to achieve their goals.
In Tell to Win, Guber shows how to move beyond soulless Power Point slides, facts, and figures to create purposeful stories that can serve as powerful calls to action. Among his techniques:
To validate the power of telling purposeful stories, Guber includes in this book a remarkably diverse number of voices master tellers with whom hes shared experiences. They include YouTube founder Chad Hurley, NBA champion Pat Riley, clothing designer Norma Kamali, Mission to Mars scientist Gentry Lee, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, former South African president Nelson Mandela, magician David Copperfield, film director Steven Spielberg, novelist Nora Roberts, rock legend Gene Simmons, and physician and author Deepak Chopra.
After listening to this extraordinary mix of voices, youll know how to craft, deliver - and own - a story that is truly compelling, one capable of turning others into viral advocates for your goal.
    Critic Reviews:
    In
Tell to Win, Peter Guber demonstrates that telling purposeful stories is the best way to persuade, motivate and convince who you want to do what you need. (Bill Clinton)
Tell to Win gives great insight into why good storytelling skills are essential for a successful leader. Its both an engaging read and a great practical guide on how to listen, prepare and marshal facts to tell the right kind of story to the right audience. (Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company)
Peter Guber has a deep understanding of the lure of story and its capacity to transformInhale this book so that you may breathe energy and purpose into the lives of others." (Muhammad Yunus, Winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, author of
    Banker to the Poor)

I didn't mind the listen but...
The author basically relates how story telling is the moving force in getting the intended audience to act. He then goes through a number of business and non-business scenarios in which story telling saved the day. Although I agree with the author that storytelling is important, I think the book would have been more helpful if it delved into the techniques that are best used to move the desired audience to act and how to implement them.
