    Meh ...
I didn't get much out of this book. It is too short and didn't give me any tangible tips on organizing. It seemed to be more the internal psychology of messiness ... asking you to write down goals and seeing which "type" of messy personality you fall into. I kept waiting to hear about actual systems I could use - it wasn't until the end that she discusses putting things in attractive containers and using nice labels.
I got much more out of Dave Allen's 'Getting Things Done' which talks about filing techniques, 43 folders, task list management, etc.. Perhaps the unabridged book has more? The author does an excellent job narrating, however.
    Excellent - Real Results
This book was great. I followed the steps and have cleaned up my home office area, and kept it neat! When I go to do another area, I'll listen to it again. Really made a difference from the other times I have tried to organize.
Short, to the point and effective
If you could sum up Organizing from the Inside Out in three words, what would they be?
    Effective, practical, informative.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Organizing from the Inside Out?
It gave me an exact process to follow with examples that pertained to all different areas of my life.
Which character as performed by Julie Morgenstern was your favorite?
Narrator was great and pleasant to listen to.
What did you learn from Organizing from the Inside Out that you would use in your daily life?
How to take each and every room in my home and areas in my life and attack them one at a time.
    Buy the book to reference
There are a lot of checklists and questionaires so I would recommend having the book. There's only so much you can actively do when walking or driving listening to an audio book
    Practical and enlightening!
Would you listen to Organizing from the Inside Out again? Why?
I have read through this book twice and have bookmarked places I want to read again. Not only do I love how simple it is to apply the principles, but the author gives examples that help with clarification.
What about Julie Morgensterns performance did you like?
Julie was easy to understand and her inflections varied so I did not get sleepy listening to her.
What insight do you think youll apply from Organizing from the Inside Out?
Organizing from the Inside Out gave me a vision for how I want to live and steps to follow to achieve my dream!
    Any additional comments?
I love, love, love the questions to ask myself to keep this vision all about what works for ME, not some magazine photo or project on TV that works for someone else!

    Publisher's Summary:
Do you work for an emotionally intelligent organization? In his phenomenal best seller Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman, Ph.D. mapped the territory where emotional intelligence meets I.Q. - where we apply what we know to how we live. His benchmark work validated what many successful people already knew: Being smart isn't just a matter of mastering facts; it's a matter of mastering your own emotions and understanding the emotions of the people around you. Now, in Working with Emotional Intelligence, Dr. Goleman shows why emotional intelligence has become the new yardstick of success for CEOs and junior hires alike. Drawing on both unparalleled access to business leaders and cutting-edge research, he shows that star performance in every field depends more on emotional intelligence than on I.Q. or technical skills. You'll be surprised to learn how the impact of emotional intelligence is even greater at the top of the leadership pyramid and will benefit from the real-life examples from the business world that Goleman uses to illustrate his theory.

One of the most important books I've encountered
Yes, I'll say it: this is one of the most important books I've read (listened to) in my life. I am well into my career of many years. I am 49. I work with executives, and I have friends that are execs, but I am not one. I am sometimes caught in between their squabbles. This book helps me understand my organization infinitely better than I did before. It's phenomenal for work relationships and interactions. It is great at helping you understand where you are in your career and how organizations and teams work best. It so rich. There is so much there,. I just finished Emotional Intelligence and then did this one. I think it is better to do it this way, but I think someone would get as much just doing this book.
Intelligence for the 21st Century Workplace
In his first book on emotional intelligence, Daniel Goleman focuses on education and how we teach emotional intelligence. In this book, the focus is on the work world and how critical emotional intelligence is for organizational success. Goleman reviews the five dimensions of emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and handling relationships) and lists 25 emotional competencies, highlighting which of those competencies lead to business success and which determine the success or failure of an executive.
Throughout the book, Goleman supports his argument for the need for emotional intelligence, noting that organizations going through the greatest change need emotional intelligence the most and that EI accounts for ninety percent of what's required for effective leadership. Moreover, he lauds the concept of learning organizations because they increase emotional intelligence, particularly in the areas of building trust and improving communications and dialogue. He closes the book with the statement that lack of emotional intelligence is the corporate equivalent of a weakened immune system - not necessarily deadly but ultimately affecting productivity and competitiveness.

"The ultimate presenter's handbook." (Zig Ziglar)
    Members Reviews:
    Indispensable for every presenter
Zig Ziglar's foreword sets the expectations high but Tony Jeary's book beats them all.
The best of the public speaking books I have read is full of principles & specific tips, which will help you deliver unforgettable presentation:
    - how making your audience feel important will help you shine
    - tips for powerful or relaxed opening
    - why you need & how to keep conversation with your audience
    - effective use of silence, little gifts, breaks, your credentials, humor & other details
    - how people gonna remember 25% of what they see, 50% of what they hear & see, and 75% of what they say
    - how to use audience barometers & handle questions
Tough to imagine somebody would not benefit -- no matter how advanced.
This is simply a jewel which deserves at least 10 stars.
    Standing ovation
That's what I received after listening to this audio. I used probably only half of the techniques described in the audio and had a hugely successful presentation. My boss commented, "I was very impressed. Best presentation I've seen in the four years I've been with this company." M Itchell must have listened to another title.
    I found value
I found this book very valuable.
I have no complaints about the narration. I'm more concerned with the message.
    Both were great.
    Couldn't even finish it
For someone purporting to Inspire, its too ironic that this recording could not hold the interest of a professional instructor (myself) who really wanted to learn as much as he could. The highlights were the excerpts from actual seminars given to live audiences - these you can learn from. Imitation works far better for learning to present than listening to explanations, so his book was flawed in concept from the get-go.
I would love to recommend a better book on this topic - but I've not found one yet. In my opinion nothing beats going to see people present as a way of learning how to present, and now I believe nothing works poorer than attempting to read about this subject.
    Fine for amateurs
This is fine if you are an anxious speech phobic, but recommendations like 'keep your jacket buttoned' aren't going to help experienced speakers looking for extra help.

Good as quick read, otherwise Getting to Yes
Getting Past No contains many of the techniques and ideas that are fully developed in the original "Getting to Yes." If you are looking for a quick read, this is good - otherwise, I would go for the "full" version.
    Lots of good ideas
I needed a quick 'tutorial' before answering a difficult person that I am currently negotiating with. This was great. In 2 short hours, I had a pocketful of ideas which I used (and they worked!). It was very helpful to me. If the only available versions had been the longer ones (6 hours) , I probably would not have listened to anything, and not gained this valuable information.
    The Bomb!
This Book is very good! I also bought "Getting to Yes" and this blew it away. A must listen.
    Getting Past No
As a Mediator, this book is a must read on negoiation tips to help resolve conflicts with differing personalties, conflicts and finding win win.
    Ok book
The book is Ok for a 2 hours listen, but I have read/listened to much better books. It starts very slow also yet gradually catches up.

    Title: Getting More
Subtitle: How to Negotiate to Achieve Your Goals in the Real World
    Author: Stuart Diamond
    Narrator: Marc Cashman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 18 hrs and 39 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-28-10
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 693 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
Negotiation is part of every human encounter, and most of us do it badly. Whether dealing with family, a business, or diplomacy, people often fail to meet their goals in every country and context. They focus on power and win-win instead of relationships and perceptions. They dont find enough things to trade. They think others should be rational when they should be dealing with emotions. They get distracted from their goals.
In this revolutionary book, leading negotiation practitioner and professor Stuart Diamond draws on the research and practice of 30,000 people he has taught and advised in 45 countries over two decades to outline specific, practical and better ways to deal with others. They range from country and corporate leaders to administrative assistants, lawyers, housewives, students, and laborers. To this he adds his 40-year experience as an executive, Harvard-trained attorney, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.
Getting More is based on Professor Diamonds award-winning negotiations course at The Wharton Business School, where it has been the most sought-after course by students for 13 years. It contains a powerful toolkit that can be used in any situation: with kids and jobs, travel and shopping, business, politics, relationships, cultures, partners and competitors.
The advice is addressed through the stories of hundreds of people who have used Diamonds tools with great success. A 20% savings on an item already on sale. An extra $300 million profit in a business. A woman from India getting out of her own arranged marriage. A four-year-old willingly brushing his teeth and going to bed.
Instead of win-win, it sometimes makes more sense to lose today to get more tomorrow. The use of power, Diamond cautions, too often causes retaliation, harms relationships, and costs credibility. Walking out is almost never as good as understanding the other persons perceptions and fixing the problem.

    This works
Bought both the paper and audio book. Using both you can digest the info faster.
I am one of those high IQ low EQ personalities. The approach recommended in this book feels very uncomfortable but I can't question the results. I hold a senior executive position in my company and within a week of using just a few of the techniques in my day to day negotiations I had emails flying around my company wondering what had happened to me. Suddenly a number of significant impasses and personality rifts within the executive team had diminished. Won't say resolved after all I am "being incremental". Also practices in a number of minor situations in hotels, restaurants and shops and have scored a couple of hundred bucks of discounts and complementary items.
The only problem for us low EQ types is that consciously using this stuff is tiring. In a 3 day straight strategy sessions where I was using these techniques all day every day I came away physically exhausted. When I came to work the day after I simply declared to everyone that I was reverting to type for the day so I could recharge. The day following that I went back to using "getting more". I hope that with practice I won't find this so draining.

if you're going to get one self-improvement book..
I've listened to thousands of self-improvement books over the years and this book is simplistic actionable and life-changing.The narration is easy to get through and as soon as I was done I started listening to it again. I own an accounting firm and I can't wait to put these practices into every day application. I can see how these changes focusing on one thing at a time can yield amazing results. thank you for bringing high-level coaching to the masses.
    Fantastic!!
A fantastic book very easy to follow I highly recommend it to anybody there are willing to improve themselves I know mine starts today..
Too many sports references and analogies
If you're not really into sports like me, it could be difficult to follow his references and analogies. I'm sure he has great advice to learn from. It's just hard to follow if you don't have a background or interest in sports.
This book made a difference for me
The title says it all for me. But the devil is in the details. And the chapter on pushing through is what made the whole difference. Organizing tomorrow today has proven very powerful for me. But learning to push through and to persevere with these useful habits is the key. This book teaches simple techniques, but does it in a way that makes them stick.
Good content. Way too many sports references.
The content is quite good. I enjoyed that part of the book. But honestly, every time the author launched into another tired sports story or analogy, I wanted to pull my hair out! A few sports references here and there are fine, but it was another "this coach said this", or "that team won that" every couple of minutes. I get that folks write what they know, but it got tiring very quickly.
On the whole, if you're on the fence, I'd say that you should get the book. Just be wary of the overzealous athletics rampant throughout.

"The 7 Habits have the gift of being simple without being simplistic." (M.Scott Peck)
    Members Reviews:
    Very good
I've been avoiding the "7 habits", since I tend to be an anti-joiner, and it got real popular, almost "cult" like. Also, I tried to tackle the book a long time ago, and got bogged down right away.
This is a great listen, as well as great content. I listened to the "6 hour" version, but now I'm thinking I should get the 12 hour version.
One warning about this version -- particularly near the beginning the adbridgement is really lame. A professional-sounding announcer (not a compliment, from me) introduces each snip, which can be amazingly short sometimes, "sound-bite" sized. It seemed like they quit this annoying habit (!) about a third or half the way through (or I just tuned it out).
Even so, if you want a bit more than a "taste" of the 7 habits, I recommend this book -- it has the potential to be life-changing. I'm wondering if I should go get a "7 habits" organizer. Not sure I ready for that, but it sure inspires me to do some kind of follow-through so that it's more than just a read.
Wish had it earlier - although we all know it!
Would you consider the audio edition of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People & The 8th Habit (Special 6-Hour Abridgement) to be better than the print version?
Yes...This book is a encyclopedia of the self help literature from the past centuries. The author has summarized the main teachings about the topic into seven basic tenats. The stress is on self improvement and principle change - supported by not just vague or ambigous, open to interpretation ways to improve one self, he teaches specific examples in daily life, touch points in our work/life where we can start making changes and see expected results. The best part of the book - this does not teach you to be pretentious, or one of the 'How to manage your perception' prescriptions, it states that to achieve harmony and as a result being effective, one needs to make fundamental changes to one's guiding principles and the rest follows. The author cites great examples and suggestions.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People & The 8th Habit (Special 6-Hour Abridgement)?
The discussion on going from perosnal level of effectiveness to greatness!

    Better than Nothing...
Since technology and computer books seem to be rare in audiobook format, it's hard not to be happy that this title is even available in the first place. Unfortunately, it's not going to be even close to enough to get you to pass the test. Please get yourself some physical study materials, and invest in some classes or at least get some hands-on practice time. However, I do think this title will work well as a part of a larger, more rounded study plan for the test--either as a basic refresher course/overview, or as a study tool to help drill certain things into your head. What this book is bad with is not giving you enough cold, hard facts. An audiobook is the perfect format for flash-card style memorization and practice questions. Imagine driving to work while also taking an A+ practice test. You hear a question, are given the possible answers verbally, and are allowed time to think before the correct answer and a detailed explanation follow. Such a tool would be powerful and useful, but this is not it. This book lacks the details and numbers that test-takers often get stumped on. While not perfect, it is the only tool open to you so far on Audible and it's much better than nothing. I just wish publishers would recognize the power of audiobooks, not just as a translation from written text, but as a medium in and of themselves--especially for test preparation. I hope to see more titles like this on Audible, and perhaps even some original offerings designed specifically for a new generation of students and professionals who study not with pens and pads, but with laptops and digital media players.
Audible needs a new CompTia A+ book
What was most disappointing about Christopher Parkers story?
It is old and out of date.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. The A+ certification is huge, and to only have one lame and out of date option in all of Audible is, again, a disappointment.
    Any additional comments?
Find better Comptia books and get them into the Audible library!
    Not enough info
I listened to this book six times and then took a practice test and failed. Lots of good info just not enough to prepare you for the test.
    out dated
covered a lot quick but is outdated didn't even touch on uefi or a lot of other new thing's don't think it was meant for 801 or 802
    Good Starter
This book is great to familerize yourself with some of the content needed on the A+ test. It obviously cant include everything, but its a good starting point to see if you are up to the challenge, or if you need to brush up on your skills a bit more.
