How to get past the most common myths about creativity to design truly innovative strategies
We tend to think of creativity in terms reminiscent of the ancient muses: divinely-inspired, unpredictable, and bestowed upon a lucky few. But when our jobs challenge us to be creative on demand, we must develop novel, useful ideas that will keep our organizations competitive. The Myths of Creativity demystifies the processes that drive innovation. Based on the latest research into how creative individuals and firms succeed, David Burkus highlights the mistaken ideas that hold us back and shows us how anyone can embrace a practical approach, grounded in reality, to finding the best new ideas, projects, processes, and programs.
For anyone who struggles with creativity, or who makes excuses for delaying the work of innovation, The Myths of Creativity will help you overcome your obstacles to finding new ideas.

    Good overview of creativity
Sad admission: I bought this because I've been studying creativity, and I liked the cover. But I'm glad I did. It ended up being a really good chronicle of creative business successes. From the invention of the sticky-note to Edison's light bulb. There are several examples of creativity in the workplace given, and each emphasizes different 'myths' that persist in the language of creativity. By highlighting the fault in those myths, he shows what DOES work. It's a good overview. I really enjoyed it.
    Great book, challenging thouts
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book will challenge your thinking about creativity and innovation. I was surprised by the number of the myths I actually believed!
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed having my thinking challenged and having my mind opened to new ideas. David has a number of entertaining stores based on good research.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
No. I really did not like the narrator. There was little energy or passion in the narration.
    Great book on creativity
What made the experience of listening to The Myths of Creativity the most enjoyable?
Well resarched, good flow between chapters, easy to follow.
What about Stephen Bowlbys performance did you like?
Liked his different voices when he read out quotes from different people.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, you need a break to take it all in and think about what you listened to.

"Steve and I wrote this book because of our inherent desire to share the 'Lazy' philosophy with the world. Most people spend their days working at jobs and tasks they hate, or aren't very good at. Successful people have figured out that you're happiest, and most productive, when you focus on the things you're good at and enjoy doing. We want everyone to go forth and be lazy!" (Jeff Goldberg)
"This book describes the path I used, starting at age 50 to launch a successful company in the middle of the recession, which is why I am so excited to share my experience with everyone. Building a plan that relies on your continued laziness rather than depending on your suddenly reinventing yourself into a new person with great new skills is more likely to work for most people.... Properly leveraged, laziness allows you play to your biggest strength, which is a proven strategy for success." (Steve Bookbinder)
Leverage is defined as the power to act effectively. Laziness means not disposed to work. Combine the two and you get Leverage Your Laziness, a guide to get what you want with the least effort. Steve and Jeff make witty commentary and provide useful tools to help rocket you forward towardsyour dreams. A quick listen that is packed with helpful hints and humor. wish i read this before i went overseas
i enjoyed this book, very relevant to me, i wish i had this advice earlier
    Really valuable information, very personable
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes absolutely, especially any woman who is early in her career and has a global passion. The "making it real" portion of each section really puts things in perspective and allows for one to project the content onto her own current situation.
Would you be willing to try another book from C. Perry Yeatman and Stacie Nevadomski Berdan ? Why or why not?
Yes absolutely. These women are outstanding role models and I would love to read more about their experiences. Especially in the way their perspectives sparked more research in the areas of culture shock and women in leadership roles, they have unique insights that young ambitious women can be inspired by. Also in the way that the book mentions gender and the impact it has on situations is crucial for women today. We know that these things happen, but not always what to do about them when working in America. To see how to respond to this in a less confrontational workplace like those outside of the US would be beneficial!
Which character as performed by Gayle Hendrix was your favorite?
Perry. It might be just because of her experiences, but I love the way she just owned everything. No matter what happened, she owned it and kept on her path. I admire and truly envied that about her the entire time.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Hillary Clinton has been quoted saying, "Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world." Take a glimpse into why by going along the journey of six outstanding, hardworking, and ambitious women. These pioneers in their fields broke down workplace barriers, gender barriers, and international cultural barriers to deliver some of the most crucial results to organizations/corporations that allows us to maintain our lifestyles. They've impacted the world and they want to share their experiences to empower the women who want to follow a similar path.

    Publisher's Summary:
A revised and updated edition of an acknowledged classic of Organizational Development literature. Over 30,000 first and second editions sold.
Open Space Technology: A Users Guide is just what the name implies: a hands-on, detailed description of facilitating Open Space Technology (OST). OST is an effective, economical, fast, and easily repeatable strategy for organizing meetings of between 5 and 2,000 participants that has been used in thousands of organizations in 134 countries and just keeps growing in popularity. Written by the originator of the method, this is the most authoritative book on the rationale, procedures, and requirements of OST.
OST enables self-organizing groups of all sizes to deal with hugely complex issues in a very short period of time. This step-by-step users guide details what needs to be done before, during, and after an Open Space event.
Harrison Owen details all the practical considerations necessary to create Open Space. He begins with the most important question - Should you use Open Space at all? - and examines what types of situations are appropriate for Open Space Technology and what types are not. He then goes on to look at nuts-and-bolts issues such as supplies, logistics, and who should come and how you should go about getting them there.

Open Spaces: Try Something a Little Different in Your Organization
I picked up this book because I was going to run Open Spaces at That Conference, a summertime polyglot technology conference in the midwest. I had participated in Open Spaces sessions before, and thought I had it pretty well in hand. This book gave me a different perspective on ways to use Open Spaces within the context of an organization. If your organization needs to do a technology powwow to take it to the next level, have a look at this volume, as its recipes are something different for the average organization.
    A confidence inspiring "how to"
It's a bit dated, but otherwise a great "how to" on Open Space Technology. Mr. Owen inspires confidence that anyone comfortable working with groups of people can make OST work. He also uses humor - especially self-deprecating - to make the book fun to read.
    great book reliable seller
arrived quickly and in good condition. the book itself is definitely worth the price and is a great help in guiding the process of creative problem-identification and ways to move forward.
    Good basic info
If you have experienced Open Space and want to understand the basic premise and framework, this is a great book. It is easy to read and understand, and is easy to follow. Owen is clear and conversational in his style, and the reader almost feels like he is sitting across the table telling the story of how he stumbled upon this idea that has snowballed into a movement.
