Disappointed

After reading all the reviews on these books, I bought four to start my 9-yr-old son on the series hoping it would be a good one. The one book has a devil on the cover, and inside. Another one talks about an ogre wearing bloody ox skins for clothes. My son scanned the books and picked up on those things right away and said, 'i'm not reading these." I read this book and didn't find it particularly engaging, a bit disjointed and overall not entertaining in the least. Not all kids like graphic images or writing and it seems somewhat inappropriate for this age group.

The young adult adventure The Truth About Magic, narrated in jolly Scottish refrain by Stanley McGeagh, concerns Mr. Tipkins, a "gift giver" (i.e. elf wizard), who had to deliver a "gift" to a new baby, Alan.

Unfortunately, Tipkins was in the middle of one really bad day. It was a long and uncomfortable journey to find the baby (Tipkins flying carpet was out of commission - he instead having to fly on a cheap cushion) and when he finally did arrive, a final minor slight led Timpkins to lose his temper. And wizards with tempers should be avoided at all costs.

As a result, Timpkins gave baby Adam a much more powerful gift than intended. Oops.

Spellbinding!

My kids (ages 3, 5, and 7) and I just listened to this in the car. We found ourselves driving around aimlessly so we could hear more of it at a time! My heard a bit about a third of the way in and started lobbying for the discs as soon as we were done with them. Definitely appeals to all ages. A teeny bit scary, just enough to be exciting. Fun characters and a satisfying plot.
