    Fabulous story for all ages.
Great production of all three books. Sad to finish this complex but thrilling trilogy. Highly recommend for all ages. Thanks
Great conclusion to a great story.
The Amber Spyglass is a great conclusion to a great story. His Dark Materials is definitely up there with one of the best stories written so far. I love how the books were narrated with a full cast of characters, and I wish more books were done the same way as it just brings the story to life so much better. Now I can hardly wait for The Book of Dust to be finished and published. I give His Dark Materials 10 stars out of 5 for Overall, Performance and for Story.
    Amber Spyglass
I was a bit doubtful about having a cast but because there is so much dialogue in this book the dramatisation made it much easier to follow the characters. I have loved the series ever since I read them years ago and this was a fantastic listen. I just wish that Audible would get the first two books in the series - I know that they are available.
Mr Pullman Please Write Book 4!
The final part in the Dark Materials Trilogy and what a finale!
I thought the start of this story was a bit slower than the first two but as the story unfolded all the action and adventure was there and just as good as the previous books.
I didn't want this final instalment to end, yet i couldn't stop listening to it. My emotions were given a battering and i felt shattered when it finished, it was as if i had been there with Lyra and company all along.
I can't recommend this book highly enough but be prepared to become totally immersed in Lyra's world and to feel like a wreck when your adventure ends, in fact you won't want it to end.
Fantastic!!! But please can we have one more book 8-)
    Pleasure to listen to
This is a good quality audio book which is easy to listen to. As it is unabridged, the whole book is there and it helped pass a very long car journey. It is the last one in the triliogy and ties up all the loose ends. Rcommend the whole series.

Rick Hanski is headed to Vietnam. There, he's going to whip the world and prove to his family, his sergeant, and everyone else who didn't think he was cut out for war that they were wrong. But sometimes Rick can't help but wonder that maybe everyone else is right. Maybe he should have just stayed at home and worked in his dad's hardware store.
When Cracker is paired with Rick, she isn't so sure about this new owner. He's going to have to prove himself to her before she's going to prove herself to him. They need to be friends before they can be a team, and they have to be a team if they want to get home alive.
Told in part through the uncanny point of view of a German shepherd, Cracker! is an action-packed glimpse into the Vietnam War as seen through the eyes of a dog and her handler.

    Point of View
The point of view from the soldier's to Willie's to Cracker- brilliant. The Vietnam war stories are somewhat ignored and this brings a personal understanding of one part of the war. Dog owners will feel the connection!
Best Book About the Best Dog in Vietnam
What did you love best about Cracker!?
It was endearing, it was suspensful, it was lovely, it was emotional. All the things a relationship with a dog is. I enjoyed it very much!
What did you like best about this story?
How real the fictional story was.
What about Kimberly Farrs performance did you like?
Her ability to capture each character as she went along.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh out loud, giggle and cry... It was very stirring
    Any additional comments?
I would not hesitate to reccomend this book!
    An outstanding "war" story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
absolutely, a young adult or an adult read that acurately depicts the Viet Nam war era. A great Grandparent/grandchild story to share.
What did you like best about this story?
The truth of the human/animal bond, the accuracy of portrayal of the politics of the era. I was 19 around the time the protaginist was 19 so to me it was a story of my "coming of age" The method of interspersing the dog's thought with the humans was masterful.
What about Kimberly Farrs performance did you like?
    well paced narration
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no, I needed to digest the events as they progressed.
    Any additional comments?
I have read MANY Viet Nam war stories and this one is highly accurate and very appealing to all ages. I think it is the best I have read.
    Not what I was expecting...
Not really for war aficionados. It's a weird dichotomy. The narration might appeal to juveniles but the subject of war probably shouldn't. Wish I could get my money back.
    Great Book
I really liked it because i love dogs and this was awesome to listen too

    Critic Reviews:
"Here's a perfect choice for the Harry Potter/Philip Pullman crowd." (AudioFile) "Gerard Doyle's rich voice and English accent suit the story perfectly. His excellent expression and conviction draw listeners into the tale and help them follow the complex plot, giving each character's voice just enough distinction." (School Library Journal)
    Members Reviews:
    Fascinating!
I listened to this with my 7 and 10 year-olds, after enjoying the "A Charmed Life". The characters are interesting and distinct, the plot complicated, and the climax had all three of us huddled around the speakers. Highly recommended!
Between the two books, I don't think it matters what order one reads them in. Both are great. There's plenty of witchcraft, magic, and humor to entertain, but there's more than mere entertainment here.
    "Lives" is well read
I am a fan of Diana Wynne Jones, and I like most of her books. This is vintage Jones at her peak, a charming child/young adult book that I have liked in the print version for a long time. The voice reading in this strikes me as just right- a nice plummy British voice that pronounces things correctly and does not read too slow or too fast for my taste. I am hooked; I want to get more of her books read by Gerard Doyle. (I only hope that they add others that are not in the Chrestomanci series, such as "Howl's Moving Castle," which is my absolute favorite Jones book.)
    wonderful!!
this is a wonderful book for any age. it flowed nicely. i bought this book when it first came out for my daughters and never read it myself. i loved it. the reader is great. i also then bought the next book. for me this is a must read if you like books about magic and other worlds.
    Amazing story
One of my favorite childhood books, and it's every bit as good now that I'm an adult. Jones is a master of fantasy.
Second book in the Chrestomanci series
What did you love best about The Lives of Christopher Chant?
I love that this book is essentially the prequel to the first book and tells us about some of the characters we had already met in book one.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Christopher Chant - knowing what he becomes from the first book makes him more interesting as his personality is in stark contrast in this book to the first one.
Have you listened to any of Gerard Doyles other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, this is consistent with his other performances. Great, easy to listen to, really entertaining narrator.

    Missing Book Chapters
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This book is unacceptable as it skipds several chapters. It goes meandering from Chapter 1 to5 to 10 and then 15. What gives audible? Are you guys going to fix this?
    Very cute.
What did you love best about Room One?
The narration paired with the story. A clever Ted Hammond is not only a perfectionist regarding accomplishments but he is prepared like every good scout. This is a modern time story and won't stand the test of time but it is an enjoyable story regarding farm children who are part of a team, not just a kid. Good for a family reading.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A film? Why waste the time and money? Books have an entirely different sensation. The are also custom fitted to each reader/listener because we choose the exact color of blue, the brand of peanut butter and size of someone's shoes. Films are overrated when it comes to the idea that all books should be turned to film. It is a rare specimen that is better than the book. Rare indeed!
    LOVED IT!!
Where does Room One rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
My son loved this book! He chose it for a book report for school!

Love that you can add audio.. My son has dyslexia and it helps not only to have the audio but he can read along with the audio portion!

this story really captured her imagination.
    Such a sad story
What did you love best about Once?
That the boy tried to write stories about his experiences.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Cry cry. Laugh a little then cry some more.
    Kids Favourite
My kids loved this story and series in fact. At first I thought it a bit naive and young for them but I liked the way it gently introduced what would have been the experiences of a child during this time of history. They couldn't get enough of it and were talking about it for ages. Great read great story, loved hearing the author read.
    Love this book
Really like hearing this story being read by the author. Morris Gleitzman is a great reader and writer. An amazing story of optimism and friendship. Highly recommended to people of all ages, especially kids. If you love this book, definitely go on and listen to 'Then', 'Now' and 'After'.

    Wonderful, as always
You can always count on Sacher for the best and most imaginative childrens books. This sequel to Holes (though maybe just a smidgen less wonderful) does not disappoint.
    OK story but not Holes
Don't expect as wonderful a story as "Holes" from this story about one of its characters. "Holes" to me was a perfect novel. It was well written, had two main stories in one, it had many mysteries, it was exciting, it had characters you grow to love, and it had a good message (more than one actually). It transported you like a great book should and it kept you coming back for more.
This story about Armpit is slow, not very complex, the characters aren't particularly loveable, and the story is bland. It is a OK read when you have nothing else to hear but it is a let down from an author that could write "Holes".
I,m love it so much that I have been playing it 72

A boy trying to fix his way of living
What made the experience of listening to Small Steps the most enjoyable?
It was about armpit who tried to fix his way about living after going to Camp Greenlake. I liked the way he tried to fix his way: small steps.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Small Steps?
Kaira and her Dad fighting in her room. Kaira dropping the lamp thing to signal Armpit.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
    Yes, it certanly did.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Armpit's learning to take small steps, but it's not easy doing that when everybody thinks you're bad. Will he suceed,or not?

    A Delight
I am periodically on the lookout for an audiobook that can be enjoyed by the whole family and is appropriate for the whole family. My two daughters and I listened to this book while on a road trip and we all enjoyed it very much. It was interesting to hear about life in Switzerland in the 1930s. The characters were interesting and the book imparted good values.
Our #1 favorite Christian children's novel
I wish this version were the original unabridged novel (Mary Mills has recently condensed most of Patricia St. John's books), but it's still so very good, and the story is beautiful and powerful. I've read it out loud to my children twice, and am thrilled that we now have this as a permanent audiobook and can listen at will. The reader has a lovely British accent that just seems right. Please don't miss this one! If you haven't seen the movie, look that up as well.
    Amazing
This book is an amazing book. It is an uplifting story of hope, love, and forgiveness; A blessing for anyone to read.

Lovely life lessons of Jesus's love for the whole family. Enjoyed every minute. inspiring story.

Here is one of the greatest English comic novels read by incontrovertible king of English comic audiobook readers, Martin Jarvis. Three men, worried about their health and in search of different experiences, set off 'up the river' in a boat. Jerome's delightful novel, dating from 1900, paints a vivid picture of innocent fun.
    Members Reviews:
    Dry and Hilarious
The first time I became aware of "Three Men In A Boat" was in the late seventies or the early eighties when I saw a much-shortened film version which included in it's cast Tim Curry and Michael Palin. I do remember it was very funny. I forgot about it though until I heard part of this audio version on satellite radio. I had to hear the whole thing and I was glad I purchased a copy from Audible. It must be one of the funniest novels ever written with it's dry "English" humor set against the absurd and exagerrated scenarios and the "over-the-top, wild opinions. There is also a true sense of love of the river Thames and of English history.
    Brilliant comedy and beautiful prose!
If you could sum up Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) in three words, what would they be?
    Delightful! Clever! British!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Montmorency...but I don't want to give away who
Have you listened to any of Martin Jarviss other performances before? How does this one compare?
No- but when I tried the other excerpts, I had to admit that Jarvis' rendition was far and away superior...at least for my tastes.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was pleasantly surprised by unexpected turns in the descriptions or storyline that made me chuckle or laugh. Some of the descriptive prose carried me away, enabling me to vividly imagine different times and places. The ebb and flow of comedy and description kept my attention well.
    Any additional comments?
This is wonderfully funny period book. If you don't like British accents or books about British life in the 19th century, then give it a miss. But if you like things like Jeeves and Wooster (by P.G. Wodehouse), or Rumpole, or some of the BBC comedies available on TV, you might give this a try. It is a mixture of absurb situations and absolutely beautiful descriptive prose! You have to really sit and listen, though, to appreciate it. Listening to this book is like having a friend sitting by the fireside relating his thoughts and his history. The interplay of comedic moments with some of the most beautiful prose I have ever heard makes this book a special favorite. (Stick with it into chapter two to hear the descriptions of the river to experience the beautiful prose.) It is possible that some people might be irritated by the narrator, and this is, of course, strictly a matter of personal taste. I happen to feel that Jarvis has just the right personality, ability to express the characters and situations, and manner to narrate this audiobook. But, as I said, sometimes the enjoyment of the narrator is strictly personal and has little to do with the skillfulness of the narration. Jarvis sounds like he is actually the author relating his own experience and thoughts. Some of the other versions sounded like just narration. The music between chapters is just wonderful. It helps draw one into the proper mood of things.

The chimookomanag, or white people, want Omakayas and her people to leave their island in Lake Superior and move farther west. Omakayas realizes that something so valuable, so important that she never knew she had it in the first place, is in danger: Her home. Her way of life.
In this captivating sequel to National Book Award nominee The Birchbark House, Louise Erdrich continues the story of Omakayas and her family.
    Critic Reviews:

    loved this book
I can't wait for the other 2 in this series to come to audible. I'm ojibwe and I love hearing ojibwe stories.
    Beautiful book
An Ojibwe woman myself, this book and the previous book in the series, The Birchbark House, moves me and soaks to my heart as few other works have. If you have lived near the Great Lakes and especially Lake Superior, the descriptions of this beatiful country will take you right there. I could smell the melting snow in the forest or the green, cinnamon like smell of sweetgrass. I could hear the lapping of the lake, or the creaks and crashes of the ice melting and breaking. The Ojibwe words sprinkled throughout and the voice of the reader were very authentic. My only complaint is that these books were published when I was already grown - I wish I'd had them to read when I was a little Ojibwe girl myself.
    Moving coming of age story
I wanted this story to go on forever. Beautifully written and masterfully read. A real gem for readers of all ages!
    Brilliant
Well researched, well written, well read! This book, and the entire series that follows Omakayas and her family, is delightful to read or listen to. This is the absolute best of Historical Fiction. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
Couldn't wait to see what happened next!
Birchbark House was my 1st read by L. Erdrich. It was enjoyable but The Game of Silence was captivating. Even listened to & read some archived articles about Erdrich and am now looking forward to diving into some more of her books. I think next up will be Round House.
