Good overview of how connected systems help to surface defects
In this segment, Jeffrey Liker presents a clear explanation of how a manage-by-the-numbers approach with disconnected processes leads people to hide their defects and make the numbers look good even when their work may be negatively impacting other processes. When processes are more closely connected, such as in one piece flow, defects surface quickly. A culture where workers creativity was applied to playing a game of numbers can transform into a culture where that creativity can be applied toward actually improving processes.

You are an educated, competent leader. But in high stakes leadership situations, emotion, anxiety and stress tend to override competency. Real life doesn't follow a logical flow or a leadership model. Emotions, opinions and passionate feelings are usually not factored into what is taught in leadership skill building workshops. The idea that highly skilled leaders will consistently deliver profit and create improvement is a half-truth.
Brian Braudis uses his education and extensive experience as a leadership coach to get to the core of not just surviving high stakes and high anxiety leadership situations but aiming higher - leading and contributing to the greater social good at the same time. Not as a goal but rather a new foundation for a new era in leadership.

This book illustrates positive leadership behaviors that resonate with employees as well as examples of poor behaviors. Mantras are extremely helpful in leadership as they provide for a consistent, simple and effective communication mechanism applicable to both aspiring and seasoned business leaders alike.
The leadership style I employ has been very successful as evidenced by the last 14 years of my career as senior director of research and development for Medtronic Surgical Technologies, a division I have helped grow from $100 million to approximately $2 billion in annual revenues over this time period.

    This should be required reading!
Mantra Leadership is the book I wish I had read in college! It is a well put together manual on how to tackle leadership in a logical way. The book is very well written - some books in this category come off as dry and tough to read, but this is not like that at all! It is full of great stories and examples, while still hammering home some very fundamental aspects of leadership. I highly recommend this to anyone in a corporate America, whether just starting out, mid-career, or having led a very large team for a number of years.
    Excellent
This book offers a no-BS / no-fluff, genuine approach to leadership. Oliver offers straightforward practical advice that's grounded in real-world experience. The chapter on priorities and choices is a must for any R&D leader and worth the price of the book!

    good read
Great Leadership Book - Mantra Leadership
With âMantra Leadershipâ, Dana Oliver has created a must read guide for all aspiring leaders. This book provides an excellent strategy to understanding what true leadership is and how to become a better mentor and leader. The breakdown of âMantra Leadershipâ into easy to digest âMantrasâ provides a great tool for leaders to use to improve their relationship with their staff and peers. I especially enjoyed the human aspects peppered throughout the book with personal experiences and life lessons which made it easier to relate and incorporate into my own personal work experience. Danaâs 30 plus years in the industry further validates the premises and mantras outlined within this book through years of tried and tested methods. I recommend reading Mantra Leadership for all aspiring leaders.

Provide deep insights about cultures while having fun!
In today's world, working with different cultures around the world is more common than ever. If not working, simply interacting with people through internet or simply at the airport. This book provides very actionable and practical tools to connect people around the world building strong relationships. For example, the tool NÂ3 "Decoding Cultures" described in chap. 6, is a very funny and entertaining process to muscle our cultural mindset. It starts by observing the obvious, what is visible/audible signs and behaviors, logos, dress codes, architecture, movies, how people eat; to then, dive into the hidden blind spots, like automatic unconscious past decisions, or say otherwise: what people donât know they donât know. What I loved about practicing this tool what to do it with friends like a game and to eventually decode my own culture... which was kind of surprising.

A "must-read" for all global leaders. âIn my role as Head of Marketing for a global financial institution, it is paramount to cultivate a communication style that works across the globe in many different geographical and cultural regions. The workshop on Cultural Clash was a very important step for me as well as my seniors. As we all know, actively living cultural diversity should be one of the most important leadership tasks in any global company. If we succeed in tapping into our vast pool of diversified skills and capabilities around the world and put them to work for our clients, our bank will have a bright future. Even a marathon starts with the first step. This is how I felt at the workshop with Thomas Zweifel. We made the first important step. However, if we want to finish the marathon, we have to keep going, step for step. I am looking forward to taking on this challenge with my team and with the support of Thomas.
