Title: The Failed Life of a Mormon Missionary
    Author: Jaron Summers
    Narrator: Jack Wynters
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 11 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-24-16
    Publisher: Jaron Summers
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 25 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Humor
    Publisher's Summary:
Jerry Wonder is the hero of this hilarious coming-of-age novel. A 19-year-old Mormon missionary, Jerry leaves South Dakota to save souls in New Zealand for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Elder Wonder's path is fraught with challenge. He misses his girlfriend, Susan, who tried valiantly to seduce him before he left, but to his regret, he remained strong for both of them. Now, he worries he will lose her in his two-year absence. And he is flawed.
Against the strictures of the LDS church, he is a compulsive masturbator, or in Mormon parlance, a "self-pollinator". Jerry makes a solemn covenant with his Father in Heaven that each time he self-pollinates, he will find a soul for Jesus. After one month, he owes his Father in Heaven 40 converts. Elder Jerry Wonder also has difficulty developing his testimony - i.e. one's absolute belief in the absolute truth of the LDS faith.
Complicating his life is Elder Freight, a 20-year-old missionary who teaches him the finer points of converting heathens - when he is not breaking their bones. But he does bond with Brother Ormsby, a Maori who urges him to persist despite his doubts. When Elder Freight takes his life, Jerry is devastated, and he delves into the dark history of the church, learning that the founding polygamist prophets were often conmen, fortune hunters, or even murderers.
Salvation of a sort comes when Susan flies to his side. They will be expelled from the church and disgrace their families. But first, Jerry has to protect the mission president and his wife from church officials in Utah, something he manages with characteristic ingenuity. Within its comic frame, the novel is informative about the Mormon church. It also shows how older men try to stifle and control young men.

Hilarious depiction of Mormon missionary life!
Accurate on All Mormon beliefs and doctrines presented. I throughly enjoyed it and laughed the entire time. The narration could not be better! I recommend it highly!
it was pretty entertaining but i dont recommended
it was pretty entertaining but i dont recommended it. Very explicit and funny at times. No history.
    An easy read
I enjoyed this book; not exceptional but an easy "read". The story reveals the hypocrisy present in the Mormon religion (or any other for that matter) without being offensive to members of that religion....a fine balancing act. The performance is good but the reader uses English accents instead of sounding like a real Kiwi. Nevertheless, I think I would recommend it.
    Wow!
I'm only 2/3s of the way through this book and I am blown away. I love it! At first I laughed.......a lot. Now, I'm just amazed.
    Behind Another Veil
I enjoyed this book. I knew a fair bit about Mormons (the LDS - not the polygamous sect) from watching the amazing TV series BIG LOVE and also from reading several books by women who had virtually been held captive. What I didn't know was the process of the male "mission", where those well-ironed and shoe-shined young men prowl the streets of our neighbourhoods, trying to reap souls for an eternity in Mormon heaven. Once a young man reaches a certain age and passes tests regarding his "purity" , he must spend two years violating our "No Soliciting" signs and enduring ever increasing challenges to their belief system, just to capture at the door, souls for their treasure chests.

    Publisher's Summary:
After being attacked by a serial killer, being saved by Loki - so-called god of mischief, lies, and chaos - being dragged to Alfheim, losing every cent in her bank account, and caring for her grandmother, Amy Lewis has lost her scholarship to veterinary school. But it's all right. She has a plan.
If she manages to keep her day job as a receptionist and her night job as a vet tech, she may be able to get her scholarship reinstated and save enough money for the dreaded "miscellaneous fees". Too bad her day boss is unbearable....
Agent Steve Rogers has political aspirations, but when a suitcase nuke turns out to be something much worse and so-called Norse gods start showing up in his life, he has a priority shift. Meanwhile, Loki's priorities and plans haven't changed at all. He wants Asgard to burn. Of course, earthly pleasures can be so distracting.
These three disparate characters have little in common, but they'll have to join forces to save Earth from trolls, wyrms, frost giant invasions, and an old evil growing beneath Chicago's streets.

OK, i try not to do this but I have some criticisms
Usually if I have issues with a book, I just don't review because taste is so individual and i don't want to screw with an author's livelihood. However, I did like the books enough to want to explain my partial endorsement and give some suggestions for possible revamping.
So here is the actual review:
The first two books in the Loki series are a definite high three stars and worth reading but I feel that both books have places where a reworking would benefit writer and readers.
First, the character perspective jumps too much. Pick a protagonist and stick to him or her because the story becomes disjointed and hard to follow.
Second, don't just end your book with no resolution so that you can make more money because you posted more novels. It's offensive to your readers, the people you need in order to sell. There were a couple of places where you could have combined books 1 and 2 and then split to join 2 and 3 so that the end product would be two novels.
At least I assume that's the case. I read the first book for free on Kindle Unlimited and bought the second. I did like the books well enough to purchase the third but will not buy the remainder if you don't edit and publish in a way that is respectful to the reader. There is an enormous difference between cliffhanger and just stopping. Every book, cliffhanger notwithstanding, should have some resolution to the book's themes and characters. If not, it just appears that you either can't write an ending or you want quantity over quality which alienates your readers.
I also suggest, as a marketing tool to increase your readership, that you publish the whole series in Kindle Unlimited. The pay rate is established by number of pages 'read,' ie get your readers engaged in front and back matter for more money, but I'm betting that you will get more push (readers) from KU than as a self-published author - more exposure. I can recommend the books to 100ish people for example but you can get thousands if you can get on Kindle Unlimited recommendations list. Just a thought. I hope you read your reviews but if you don't, hopefully one of your friends sees this.

    Yes 5 Stars!
What a great audio book! Perfectly narrated with a heartwarming family story. I have read all the "Klufti" books and was worried that I wouldn't like this book as well. What a pleasant surprise, it took me back to my family vacations from Germany to Italy. I found my own family represented in the book including Oma and the fighting teenagers. At times I was laughing out loud. Thank You!

Denn wenn man nur genau genug hinschaut, ist so ein Leben mit seinen Höhen und Tiefen, seinen Glücks- und Unglücksfällen alles andere als ein Zufall. The unspooling of Toni Lee Wells' Tiffany and Wild Turkey lifestyle begins with a trip to the Luckett County Jail drunk tank. An earlier wrist injury sidelined her pro tennis career, and now she's trading her tennis whites for wild nights roaming the streets of Rose Hill, Georgia.
Her wealthy family finally gets fed up with Toni Lee's shenanigans. They cut off her monthly allowance but also make her a sweetheart deal: Get a job, keep it for a year, and you'll receive an early inheritance. Act the fool or get fired, and you'll lose it for good.
Toni Lee signs up for a fast-track Teacher Corps program. She hopes for an easy teaching gig, but what she gets is an assignment to Harriet Hall, a high school that churns out more thugs than scholars. What's a spoiled Southern belle to do when confronted with a bunch of street-smart students who are determined to make her life as difficult as possible?

    highly enjoyable!
My first novel from the author but definitely not my last. I breezed through this funny yet surprisingly deep novel. I assumed that Toni Lee would be a rich, spoiled brat, but she was incredible likeable right from the start. And the unlikeable characters were fun to hate :) Karin Gillepsie has a great sense of humor and a skill for developing characters. I'm excited to read more from her.
    Classy Book
I read the audio book format of this book. The story was well thought out and put me as a reader right there in the shoes of the over-privileged girl, learning to become and adult the hard way--in front of a bunch of snotty teenagers. Nice plot, handsome love interest, and a very human protagonist. Lovely writing. A good summer beach read, or winter read by the fire.

This was such a good read! Girl Meets Class is a story about Toni Lee Wells, a rich spoiled young woman whose pro tennis career is suddenly derailed by an injury and is forced to spend a year teaching in an inner city project high school in order to win back her inheritance. I really loved how Toni Lee started out the story so clueless about life in general. Karin Gillespie does a terrific job showing Toni's incredible story arc from spoiled southern miss to caring teacher. There's a romance with a fellow teacher, school and political corruption, and lots of great fun southern moments. I highly recommend this!
    Hilarious! Loveable!
Loved! Karin Gillespie is one of those Southern writers that does it best. You can see it, relate to the characters and even have neighbors that act just them. This was Unputdownable book! I laughed, snorted, cried and cheered. Job well done.
    Character transition was great
I enjoyed the story and was impressed with how believable the character development was. I'll read more by this author!

'Who is this guy, Dad? What is he doing here?'
With an absent wife and a daughter going off the rails, wealthy art collector and philanthropist Simon Strulovitch is in need of someone to talk to. So when he meets Shylock at a cemetery in Cheshire's Golden Triangle, he invites him back to his house. It's the beginning of a remarkable friendship.
Elsewhere in the Golden Triangle, the rich, manipulative Plurabelle (aka Anna Livia Plurabelle Cleopatra a Thing of Beauty Is a Joy Forever Christine) is the face of her own TV series, existing in a bubble of plastic surgery and lavish parties. She shares prejudices and a barbed sense of humour with her loyal friend, D'Anton, whose attempts to play Cupid involve Strulovitch's daughter - and put a pound of flesh on the line.
Howard Jacobson's version of The Merchant of Venice bends time to its own advantage as it asks what it means to be a father, a Jew and a merciful human being in the modern world.
    Members Reviews:
    Powerful
A gripping and clever retelling of the well known play. Read at a great and intelligent pace.
    Great Story, Average Narration
    Any additional comments?
I opted to listen to this book because I had really enjoyed the previous title in the 'Shakespeare Reimagined' series, which forms part of the Shakespeare 400 commemorations.
This particular book is a retelling of The Merchant of Venice, set in the modern-day 'Golden Triangle' area of Cheshire.
Two Jewish men, Shylock and Simon Strulovitch (a rich philanthropist and art collector) meet in a cemetery and strike up a friendship. Both have troublesome daughters and are mourning their wives for different reasons- Shylock's has died and Strulovitch's is bed-ridden and uncommunicative through illness.
Various situations, some comic, some serious, lead the men to examine the nature of fatherhood, what it means to be Jewish and how/when to be merciful. The author uses Shakespeare's device of a 'pound of flesh' in an unexpected way, and creates a cast of minor characters who are colourful, engaging and more likeable than either of the main protagonists. The story starts quite slowly and is not helped by the style of narration; but it builds up to a well-plotted and absorbing novel, full of humour and insights into the Jewish world and psyche. The second half is definitely better than the first.
I really could not warm to the narrator. His style really irritated me at times - he sounded sarcastic, even bored at some points. It was a shame as I really love Howard Jacobsen's writing.
I do not know much about The Merchant of Venice so I am unsure as to whether this version is close to the original or not. But it is definitely worth listening to, just as a stand-alone piece of literature.

    Members Reviews:
Charming, but far too long and plodding.
The book was charming and well-written. The dialogue was decent to good and the characters were likable. The problem though, is that this story spends far too long plodding toward what you would assume to be the beginning of the tale. You are treated to long, mundane conversations. Everything is so verbose that it can be hard to figure out what's important.
On the flip side, everything that transpires does have bearing on the story and conclusion, however it's just barely enough to make a difference, and certainly not enough to have dwelled on for so long.
With some editing, this could be far more enjoyable.
    Almost completely charming!
I have never been to Singapore. I lived in Hong Kong many years ago and may have picked up the disdain for what many there viewed as their much lesser cousin. Nor have I ever really known a Singapore native. My knowledge of the island nation is based on general reading and occasional chats with people who have travelled there for one purpose or another, returning with complaints of high prices, stifling heat, and equally stifling sociopolitical regimentation. I have deliberately avoided looking up Ms. Tsao's biography (I'll do that after I finish this review), because I desperately want to IMAGINE her as a Singapore local, whatever the truth of the matter. Whether it's real or not, the nation she describes is alive, colorful, vibrant, exciting, even when viewed largely from the point of view of a character who does not and can never fit in. Early in the book there is a description--it must run to several pages in print--of the diversity and quality of Singapore's food, and the extent of the population's love for it, whose lavish, evocative detail reminds me of Flaubert in its execution. Think, for instance, of the description of the young Charles Bovary at the beginning of Flaubert's debut novel and you'll get a sense of the best of Tsao's prose. Incidentally, the hapless protagonist, the "oddfit" of the title, himself bears some resemblance to poor Dr. Bovary.
Like many of the best works of fantasy, this novel might with equal justification be ascribed to another genre pigeonhole, in this case magical realism. I will not go into the plot--to my mind, the value of this novel lies primarily in character and setting.

Dated lechery but still has some appeal.
Despite the tiresome constant lechery of the eighty year old Schimmelhorn, there is something endearing somewhere in these stories. I bought this collection because I recently re-read the first two stories after a gap of almost fifty years and then realised that there were more Schimmelhorn stories. True, I did find them funnier and more unusual when I was fourteen years old, but still...

    Boy Trouble.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. This is a light, fun and entertaining story with all sorts of boy drama. It has multiple plot twists and is genuinely surprising in many places without taking itself too seriously. This story is sure to lighten up your winter funk.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that this story reminded me of late nights talking over boy troubles with my sisters. First Bridgett is obsessed with Adam. Then she is consumed with Ian while simultaneously trying to figure out what to do about Justin. It has a great gossip session feel.
What does Lara Asmundson bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She has a light, animated voice that makes the story fun. She brings a very girly feel to the narration.
If you could take any character from Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I would take Carla (Bridgette's ex-future mother-in-law) out to lunch because she is incredibly entertaining and has a fabulous accent.
    Any additional comments?
This book is relatively clean. No foul language or graphic sex scenes. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
    Great Book!
    Any additional comments?
This is great fun book written by Becky Monson and narrated by Lara Asmundson. This book can be listened to in one sitting if you have the time, once I started listening to it I didnt want to put it down until the end. Bridgette Reynolds is ready for her perfect proposal, what she wasnt ready for was her boyfriend breaking up with her to date someone else. She is determined to not let anything or anyone stand in her way to get Adam back. That is until she runs into the one she let get away in college.
The narrator Lara Asmundson. She did a great job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to in one sitting and I didnt want to stop listening until the end.
If you are looking for a great book with great characters then you need to listen to this book.

    Cleverly odd
Sadly not my cup of tea.
I love many of Murakami's later Novel's but this to me was over run with metaphors and no real heart with to many tangents'.
I must say it questions peoples true intentions in a remarkable way and Annalise's the human thought process beautifuly. I would still suggest to any Murakami readers to indulge in this book as it is the beginning of his journey as an Author....
