    Publisher's Summary:
After Jesus death, burial and resurrection he commissions his disciples to take the gospel to the ends of the earth (Acts 1: 8). And they do just that.
Those who were eyewitnesses to Jesus life and works travel throughout the Roman Empire, telling stories about him: What he said, what he did, miracles he performed, conversations and debates he had. Over time, those oral stories take on shape and formnot changing from telling to telling, as many insistbut solidifying into a standardized form.
By the early to mid-60s30 years after Jesus life on earththe eyewitness generation begins to die off, through natural death and through periodic persecutions, such as that of the Roman Emperor Nero (A.D. 64 68). With the eyewitness generation disappearing it seemed wise to write the stories down, lest they be lost. Thus the first written Gospels emerge.
Matthew, Mark and Lukethe synoptic Gospels (syn = same, as in synonym; optic = eyeseen with the same eye)organize the oral stories about Jesus and present them from three different perspectives, for three different audiences, and for three different purposes. The Gospel according to John emerges 20-30 years after the synoptic Gospels, and it is written from an entirely different perspective with an entirely different purpose.
Handwritten on scrolls and later in codex form (like our modern book), the Gospels spread throughout the Roman world as a final, stable text. They are the Gospels we read today.

    Title: What Is the Bible?
Subtitle: How an Ancient Library of Poems, Letters and Stories Can Transform the Way You Think and Feel About Everything
    Author: Rob Bell
    Narrator: Rob Bell
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 32 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-18-17
    Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 21 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles
    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author Rob Bell, using his inspired and inquisitive approach, focuses on the most widely read book of all time. He provides surprising insights and answers about how the Bible actually works as a source of faith and guidance, showing a brand-new way of interpreting this sacred text.
Rob Bell, the beloved author of Love Wins and What We Talk About When We Talk About God, goes deep into the Bible to show how it is more revelatory, revolutionary, and relevant than we ever imagined - and offers a cogent argument for why we need to look at it in a fresh, new way.
In Love Wins, Rob Bell confronted the troubling questions that many people of faith were afraid to ask about heaven, hell, fate, and faith. Using the same inspired, inquisitive approach, he now turns to our most sacred book, the Bible. What Is the Bible? provides insights and answers that make clear why the Bible is so revered and what makes it truly inspiring and essential to our lives.
Rob takes us deep into actual passages to reveal the humanity behind the Scriptures. You cannot get to the holy without going through the human, Rob tells us. When considering a passage, we shouldn't ask, 'Why did God say...?' To get to the heart of the Bible's meaning, we should be asking, 'What's the story that's unfolding here, and why did people find it important to tell it? What was it that moved them to record these words? What was happening in the world at that time? What does this passage/story/poem/verse/book tell us about how people understood who they were and who God was at that time?' In asking these questions, Rob goes beyond the one-dimensional question of 'is it true?' to reveal the Bible's authentic transformative power.
Rob addresses the concerns of all those who see the Bible as God's word but are troubled by the ethical dilemmas, errors, and inconsistencies in Scripture. With What Is the Bible?, he recaptures the good book's magic and reaffirms its power and inspiration to shape and inspire our lives today.

Length: 13 hrs and 30 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-19-17

The "general epistles" include those New Testament canonical epistles and letters not attributed to St. Paul, but all written during the 1st generation of the Church by those closely associated with Jesus. They include Hebrews; James; 1 & 2 Peter; 1, 2 & 3 John and Jude.
The "general epistles," like the "minor prophets," are often ignored by many readers, treated much like afterthoughts. But Dr. Bill Creasy brings the General Epistles to life with his insightful, dynamic teaching, moving them out of the shadows and placing them center stage, aglow in the spotlight. Dubbed a "bible teacher extraordinaire" and "the Garrison Keillor of Scripture study," Dr. Creasy served for over 20 years on the UCLA English faculty, where he was consistently ranked among the top 2% of all university teaching faculty.

    Format: Original Recording
Length: 6 hrs and 22 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-19-17
    Publisher: Logos Bible Study
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles
    Publisher's Summary:
Jeremiah prophesized that the Babylonian captivity would last 70 years, and indeed it does: from the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Solomon's temple in 586 BC to the rebuilding and dedication of the second temple in 516 BC. When Cyrus the Great, King of Persia, conquers Babylon, he allows not only the Jews, but all the people taken captive by Assyria and Babylon, to return home in 539 BC and rebuild their cities, temples, and infrastructures. In the book of Ezra we witness the exiles' return, and we watch as they rebuild the temple, stacking stones with one hand and wielding swords with the other!
As we rebuild the temple in Ezra, so we rebuild Jerusalem in Nehemiah. Ezra and Nehemiah work together, priest and layman, to complete the work - and you will not find two more different characters in all of Scripture. When Ezra learns that the Israelite leaders have been unfaithful to God, he sits on the ground appalled and pulls out the hairs of his beard; when Nehemiah hears the same message, he gathers the leaders together, sits them on the ground, and he pulls out the hairs of their beards!
Those who returned to rebuild Jerusalem and the temple in Ezra and Nehemiah number little more than 40,000 people, only about 10% of the Jewish population in the Persian Empire. The book of Esther tells the story of the 90% who remained behind. This is a fabulous story - and Dr. Creasy recounts the "X-rated" version, with his "behind the scenes" commentary on a beauty contest!
Dubbed a "bible teacher extraordinaire" and the "Garrison Keillor of Scripture", Dr. Bill Creasy served on the UCLA English faculty for over 20 years, during which time he was consistently ranked among the top 2% of the university's teaching faculty.

Title: The Kings of Israel and Judah

    Format: Original Recording
Length: 21 hrs and 3 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-19-17
    Publisher: Logos Bible Study
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles
    Publisher's Summary:
Logos Bible Study presents another masterful presentation by Dr. Bill Creasy of how a divided kingdom will surely fall. From Solomon's reign to the prophetic call of Elijah, 1 Kings tells the story of the collapse of David's united monarchy into a nearly 100-year civil war and the fracture of a nation into two kingdoms: Israel and Judah. 2 Kings continues the story, chronicling Assyria's conquest of Israel in 721 BC and Babylon's conquest of Judah in 586 BC, ending with all Israel taken captive to Babylon.
1 & 2 Kings tells the story of Israel and Judah from man's perspective, while 1 & 2 Chronicles tells the story from God's perspective. Functioning as a recapitulation, 1 & 2 Chronicles focuses on the history of Judah, Israel's southern kingdom, and the house of David.
Listening to biblical scholar Dr. Bill Creasy is a pure delight, as he guides us across the landscape of a broken nation ruled by evil kings, the prophets who confront them, and the idolatrous worshippers who turn their backs on God. He brings enthusiasm and humor to the stories, as well as a keen literary and analytical sense. A natural performer, Dr. Creasy keeps his lectures improvisational and fun. Studying the Bible with this great teacher is a wonderful experience!

AUDIO NIV BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
David and is an excellent narrator for this bible with the acting experience he has he can adapt his voice to what part he's reading been bedbound it's great to be able to still get hear God's Word.
I can't thank David Suchet enough for spending the 200 hrs doing this audio book xx
    Excellent version.
If you are going to tackle something as daunting as the Bible then listening to David Suchet's soothing tones will definitely help. I'm not a good reader and have struggled through several failed attempts at taking on the Bible. I've had audio versions before but often with overacted American voices which have been distracting. This version is simple but beautiful.
Each day is split into three parts which makes breaks it up into manageable portions and listening in this way really helps to get an overview of all the stories and how they work together, rather than just focusing on tiny sections at a time in isolation as we often do.
My only bugbear is that whilst it states that chapter markers/info will be downloaded to your library, they aren't. So revisiting a section will require guesswork. This is basic and should really have been dealt with. However, this is probably one of the best and most important audiobooks you could own.
Lovely to listen to and would have given 5 stars but....
It would have been better if the chapters were entitled with the part of the bible the text is read from. To be able to choose a passage would be great. I now discovered there is another audio that does this but would mean I'd have to spend another 40pounds on top of what I've spent on this. Had I known this audio did not have the chapters titled with the part of bible its read from I wouldn't have got it. But now I'm stuck with it and not willing to spend another 40pounds at the moment. Disappointed!
    Very frustrating to use
There doesn't appear to be a way of navigating this by book/chapter/verse it's divided into 100's of generically named chapters. What a waste of money :(
Makes readings the Bible on the go so easy
The narration is superb and I like the fact that you can set your own pace. Fantastic aid to developing a habit of reading the Bible
