A gem: big chunk of education & a model of clarity
I agree with the author's assertion: if I can't distill my understanding of something well enough to explain it to a child, I probably don't really understand it (particularly, enough to stake decisions on it, such as trading and investment decisions). This is a central guiding principle for me as a law teacher, and I detest phony sophisticates who cannot be bothered to put in the work to use plain language and clear reasoning to explain complex things. Here, the author has done this extra work, and admirably puts this into practice. All that is needed in the reader/listener is a very basic understanding of corporate structure and finance. Some knowledge of recent corporate history is icing on the cake.

    Awesome Book!
Loved the book and the audible layout. Learned alot about investing and Steve Burns was a great teacher - as if I was in a classroom environment. I was also inspired by his story which gave me hope in investing directly in the stock market using his trend trading strategy (after plenty of practice trading first!). Broke down the information very clearly, which I greatly appreciated. I plan on buying his book, so I can use it more as a study guide for taking notes.
better book then the Darvis book
this book is a clearly laid out version then the original Darvis book. this is more of a summary of the darvis system with out all of the filler
    Good Presentation
Good presentation of the methodology used.by Nicolas Darvas with some concrete modern days examples. Thanks you.

Sales Pitch for the able trend system
John Wang is repeating again and again on the AbleTrend way of reading the market.
The book doesn't give any usefully information on the T1 - T3. I also think it is foolish to believe that if any one has discovered the real truth behind the markets movement, he will sale it for less than 200$ a month.
I even tried to get a backtesting report that confirm the able trend system - I didn't get the expected results. Of course you can create a lot of strategies that catch every big movement the market has done, however the real question is how much do you lose in the trials that fails.
I wouldn't recommend this book for reading - you can jump straight to the AbleTrend web site to read the advertisement - the book will guide you to do the same thing.

A Must for a Macro Investor
What did you love best about World Right Side Up: Investing Across Six Continents?
This isnt just about Investments. Its about history, culture, travel, politics and economic trends. This is a book I can see myself using as reference book. Alot of reading references, alot of cultural info. This is the kinda book you'd buy and feel that you didnt do justice to the author by paying him only the listed price of the book. I feel I owe him a lunch or a cup of coffee. Thank you Mr Mayers!
Also, Peter does an excellent job narrating the script. Kept the tone very interesting. An excellent Gem overall.

    Publisher's Summary:
What is true prosperity? Is it simply having enough money? Certainly financial security is necessary for peace of mind. But for many people the pursuit of money stresses and exhausts them so much, it makes peace of mind impossible. And theyre always chasing after more - they never feel like they have enough. True prosperity is when there is no conflict between money and happiness - when you dont have to drag yourself out of bed every morning because the way you make a living is true to who you are. And when your way of life is sustainable, you dont fall victim to the boom/crash syndrome that afflicts so many people because you know exactly what you need to be happy and have a plan to achieve it.
For the past twelve years Ethan Willis and Randy Garn have helped tens of thousands of people find their own personal path to prosperity. After nearly 11 million hours of personal coaching observation in eighty countries, theyve developed six Prosperity Practices that will enable you to create a life that is rich, rewarding, and renewing. You begin by focusing on what you have, not on what you do not - youll be surprised what you find once you shift your way of thinking. A key part of this process is determining what Willis and Garn call your Polaris Point: a precise description of the life you want and what you need to sustain it. This becomes your own private North Star, guiding all your actions and keeping you from chasing after things you dont really want or need. Then youll discover how to leverage your passions, experience, and expertise to generate the income you require to reach your Polaris Point.
Although youll find much to reflect on here, Prosper is an action guide - at the end of each chapter, Willis and Garn provide concrete steps you can take to make each of the Prosperity Practices a reality. Soon your life will be aligned with the core of your being, you will have a deep understanding of what you need to be happy, and youll know how to hold to that vision - and you will truly prosper.

Length: 8 hrs and 23 mins

    Release date: 10-17-11
    Publisher: Gildan Media, LLC
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 65 votes
Genres: Business, Personal Finance & Investing
    Publisher's Summary:
Who was the greater economist--Adam Smith or Charles Darwin? The question seems absurd. Darwin, after all, was a naturalist, not an economist. But Robert Frank, New York Times economics columnist and best-selling author of The Economic Naturalist, predicts that within the next century Darwin will unseat Smith as the intellectual founder of economics. The reason, Frank argues, is that Darwin's understanding of competition describes economic reality far more accurately than Smith's. And the consequences of this fact are profound.
Indeed, the failure to recognize that we live in Darwin's world rather than Smith's is putting us all at risk by preventing us from seeing that competition alone will not solve our problems. Smith's theory of the invisible hand, which says that competition channels self-interest for the common good, is probably the most widely cited argument today in favor of unbridled competition--and against regulation, taxation, and even government itself. But what if Smith's idea was almost an exception to the general rule of competition? That's what Frank argues, resting his case on Darwin's insight that individual and group interests often diverge sharply.
Far from creating a perfect world, economic competition often leads to "arms races," encouraging behaviors that not only cause enormous harm to the group but also provide no lasting advantages for individuals, since any gains tend to be relative and mutually offsetting. The good news is that we have the ability to tame the Darwin economy. The best solution is not to prohibit harmful behaviors but to tax them. By doing so, we could make the economic pie larger, eliminate government debt, and provide better public services, all without requiring painful sacrifices from anyone. That's a bold claim, Frank concedes, but it follows directly from logic and evidence that most people already accept.
    Critic Reviews:
"I've been reading Robert Frank's books for years, and he just gets better and better. I strongly recommend The Darwin Economy: it's clear, persuasive, and cleverly entertaining, and it provides a new and original insight about a central issue in economics." (Thomas C. Schelling, Nobel Laureate in Economics)

Are you underwhelmed with the way your traditional 60/40 portfolio has been performing lately and wondering why? Do you suspect there might be better ways to invest your money, but aren't sure what they are? What about all those "alternative" investments you keep hearing so much about in the media, such as commodities, real estate, emerging market funds, and, of course, that darling of pirates, Medieval monarchs, and radio talk-show hosts everywhere: gold? And how about the legion of new financial products Wall Street keeps spawning like kudzuexotic creatures with strange-sounding names like "replicants," "100/30s," and "buy/write" funds? How do they work, and do any of them make sense for you?
The Little Book of Alternative Investments gives you complete, detailed answers to all those questionsand a whole lot more. Like a pair of trusty native guides, bestselling investment authors Ben Stein and Phil DeMuth clear a path through the alternative investments jungle. They identify the flora and fauna, stopping along the way to tell you which ones are safe to consume and which ones will consume you, if given half a chance. And they explain in plain English, not Wall Street Swahili, how each product or class of products works (or doesn't work), and how each can be used to help you reduce risk and boost returns.Just as important, if not more so, Ben and Phil arm you with proven portfolio management strategies that take full advantage of the best of the best alternative products out there. No matter what your budget, level of experience, or tolerance for risk, you'll discover how to use everything from REITs and futures to hedge funds and hedge fund-like mutual funds to shield your money from the bubble-and-bust, hurly-burly of the markets and come out ahead, in all economic climates.

This Little Book is filled with big ideas on how to make these markets and strategies a treasured part of our investing toolkit." (Robert Arnott, Chairman, Research Affiliates)

    False Misinterpretation of the bible!
Zordani teaches that Christians and non Christians should give away 10% to their church then ''god will bless you with abundance''.
Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our turning away from god. That is why we don't need to tithe anymore as well as sacrifice sheep on the alter etc as in hebrew law.
He takes the old testament law literally and says it applies to christians today.
There are many laws in the old scripture that should not be followed today for eg stoning for a crime,
    eye for an eye etc
Rich people did'nt get rich by tithing they did it by hard work and brains.
Don't waste your money on this bible bashing crap.

From Buffett to Bono, here is how todays leading philanthropists are revolutionizing the field, using new methods to have a vastly greater impact on the world.
For philanthropists of the past, charity was often a matter of simply giving money away. For the philanthrocapitalists, the new generation of billionaires who are reshaping the way they give, its like business. Largely trained in the corporate world, these social investors are using big-business-style strategies and expecting results and accountability to match. Bill Gates, the worlds richest man, is leading the way: he has promised his entire fortune to finding a cure for the diseases that kill millions of children in the poorest countries in the world.
In Philanthrocapitalism, Matthew Bishop and Michael Green examine this new movement and its implications. Proceeding from interviews with some of the most powerful people on the planet - including Gates, Bill Clinton, Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, and Bono, among others - they show how a web of wealthy, motivated donors has set out to change the world.
