Some top-of-mind Pros / Cons

Pro:

1. Doesn't shy away from the numbers of the thing. Face it, Finance is all about numbers and math. (Be prepared to do the work.)

2. Offers a teaching method that is personal, close as if learning from a colleague, not a professor.

3. Pulls in expertise where he knows he is not experienced: Tim's inclusion of Michael Hajek's work demonstrates humility, not the typical arrogance of "the expert."

Con:

1. No index in the back: I wanted one so bad a few times. (There must be an app for that?)

2. Pulls in expertise where he knows he is not experienced: I think the book was standing well on its own without the additional chapter presented by Michael Hajek. I'm really grateful for Hajek's input, but just because Tim has not been able to measure his own results using the strategy doesn't mean it is not valid. If it has been demonstrated, that's good enough for me. Reference Hajek and move on, get this book out there and get the message to us who need this refreshing jolt of realism!

Unconventional investing is 2 books in one! A great value.

The first section is an easy reading tale of woe. It relates an all too familiar and intimate accounting of the state of most middle class families and professionals. I felt like Tim was pointing out and describing a submerged barrier reef to be cautious of while sailing troubled waters.

The second section is difficult but essential to understanding finance and true diversification. It concentrates and expresses the essence of investing freedom: Breaks the Bonds of the 401k handcuff with real-world, albeit esoteric, well-studied (think Yale) recommendations that illustrate, clearly, what can be accomplished.

The book had a lot of words, but I found very little of it to be useful. The book was primarily written as a promo for the author's earlier book "you vs. wall st." and the seminars she holds. The first part on debt management is only for people who are really poor with their money and have found a financial hole for themselves already. The part on stock market investing was repeatedly encouraging the readers to either read "You vs. Wall st." or to attend one of her seminars. The same goes about real estate investment. There are a lot of common sense tips, which might be useful for people who are really really bad with their money. For a general, reasonably responsible person, there is very little value in this book.

Best book on running martial arts schools, period.

One of the best books on running a martial arts school ever written, and I have read a lot of them. It takes the theoretical knowledge of many different business books available and places them all in the practical setting of a martial arts school. Absolutely wonderful!

Well written and packed full of tremendously valuable knowledge that can be implemented right now, regardless of your status in the martial arts teaching field. I have listened to this book five times since purchasing it and each time, I take away something new I can implement in my business. The sections on the structure of your business and the different programs that can extend your business is very valuable.

Chaz Allen does a great job of narrating the book as well! He is very pleasant to listen to even if you speed up the narration to 3 times normal.

If you are only going to buy one book on running a martial arts school...buy this one!

Well written and very thorough.

I recently opened a martial arts school in Kalamazoo, MI. This book provided many valuable points that have aided me in the process of opening, running and marketing. I also am using the info to plan future events and strategies. I highly recommend it to anyone. there is a lot of info so be sure to read/listen multiple times. I've been through it 4 times and still getting new things that I missed before.
