I've listened to Dragnet for years. These volumes appear as single editions in your library. Most of them have great sound quality. Because each story is individual you will not see reviews on the whole volume very often. Most reviews are on each story.

Most original radio episodes were sponsored by cigarette companies. Sometimes a plug for the cigarettes is made by Jack Webb, the primary voice of Dragnet, sometimes other celebrities will join the list of promoters. There are a few extra comments such as to attend church each week, become active in your community, serve on jury duty and even one which recommends reading your Bible during National Bible Week. Each episode has a story of crime and punishment, most have a twist for the culture of the 1940s and 1950s. Most stories could happen today. Heroin, drug use, stealing, forgery, murder - nothing different from our local news, what is different is leaving a dime for use of the phone, lunch plates costing $2, offering smokes to every person they meet along the way. Police officers can no longer afford to keep everyone in cigarettes the way these are passed out.

The radio crimes are less violent because language that could cross the airwaves was limited and could not use slang or street terms. This makes Dragnet episodes suitable for all ages. Worthwhile and certainly a great value when you consider the price and how many hours you get of listening. Dragnet is awesome!

Great radio drama!

I commute over an hour a day to and from work, so I'm an audiobook junkie of sort. Found this audio book both entertaining and mind consuming. Made my commute easy. Felt like I was back at the ranch listening in on the radio to a hilarious plot that twisted and turned at the drop of a gun. Actors used refined voice techniques and believeable improvs that kept me glued to the storyline. I'd definitely recommend this book to others looking for some good slapstick humor. If you enjoy "cop" stories w/ a comedic twist, this would be a good purchase for you. Got to my destination before I knew it!

The Doubleday Publishing Company introduced its series of Crime Club imprints in 1928 with Kay Cleaver Strahan's The Desert Moon Mystery, an imprint which earned them a major mint thanks to a long run of dime-store novels that continued to be released until 1991. Among the books featured under the Crime Club banner were all 50 novels of The Saint, written by Leslie Charteris, and several of the Fu Manchu first editions by Sax Rohmer. The popularity of the novels even stretched to motion pictures, with Universal Studios producing 11 B-mysteries between 1937 and 1939, several of which (The Westland Case, The Lady in the Morgue) featured Crime Club stalwart Detective Bill Crane (played by Preston Foster), as created by mystery author Jonathan Latimer. When The Eno Crime Club premiered over CBS Radio on February 9, 1931, many of the Crime Club imprints were adapted for the six-day-a-week quarter hour series by writers Stewart Sterling and Albert G. Miller.
