    Excellent!!!
This is the first audiobook that I have ordered as a Premium Listener and I regard it as an excellent one. It consists of five lessons given by Jack Kornfield to a group of people during a course of five weeks. It is very well structured and tailored to the beginner?s needs. It discusses various subjects:
    ? Why meditate
? How to focus on your breath
? How to focus on your body sensations
? How to deal with feelings
? How to deal with thoughts
    ? Loving kindness-walking-eating meditation
    Highlights include:
? Jack Kornfield?s kindness and wisdom. You will soon be feeling that this teacher is talking directly to you.
? Simple and clear view of buddhist principles and psychology.
? Jack Kornfield deals with many misconceptions about meditation, the most important one to avoid being perfectionist and idealistic about it.
? Jack Kornfield explains clearly why meditation isn?t some mystical way to attain extraordinary powers but the art of being here now!
? This audiobook is full with humorous stories that help to convey the message in the most insightful and entertaining way.
It is really a great audiobook. I hope that audible.com will provide us with other Jack Kornfield?s books and my suggestion is ?After the enlightment the laundry?
? Offer yourself this audiobook, it?s an excellent gift.
Almost as good as being there
I've long wanted to go to a retreat where Jack Kornfield offers his insights into meditation. This is almost as good. I return to it often, especially the fourth week's session. Great introduction to vipassana.
    Great Workshop
This is a joy to listen to again and again. The only possible minus is the bad sound quality of the open mike. However there have been times when I have been present myself at workshops like this and I could not make out more of what was being said than I can on this recording.
    entertaining as well as useful
If you are interested in learning about meditation, this audiobook is great.
It does not matter that the recording is not as good. The "workshop" sessions have substance!
I have already heard it 4 or 5 times.
    Great book!
I really enjoyed this book. It was very entertaining and full of good insight on how to meditate. Jack is relaxed and often amusing in his narration, i laughed out loud several times. Audio quality is a little poor though, but dont let that put you off! You can actually meditate along with the book too, with instruction from Jack - Great.

    A wonderful listen
We have had this in many forms for many years. Our children would ask for the "Sally" tape on nights they could not sleep. She has a lovely voice and you can't help but relax!

    Publisher's Summary:
This compelling spiritual quest by Hermann Hesse, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1946, is considered one of the most important works of 20th century fiction. Siddhartha's search for enlightenment leads him to the river of life itself. On his journey he learns from many teachers: the ascetic Samanas, the all-knowing Gotama the Buddha, Kamala the lovely courtesan, and Vasudeva the simple ferryman. Unwilling to accept the wisdom of others, Siddhartha comes to an understanding of himself and his place in the universe, finally achieving the enlightened state of mind in which he can say to his lifelong friend: "The world, Govinda, is perfect at every moment."

Choosing an audio version of Siddhartha
Audible currently offers 4 versions of Hermann Hesse's, "Siddhartha". I'd like to help you with your selection.
Derek Jacobi brilliantly breathes life into the current edition. The reading is stellar, making this by far the recommended choice. Caveat: this version is abridged.
    As for the unabridged versions:
Fidrous Bamji: If you must choose an unabridged version, this is the best of the lot. The narration is pleasing to the ear, but simply lacks the magic of Jacobi's rendition.
James Langton: TOO FAST. Langton literally speed narrates the story, leaving you with a throbbing headache by the time he's done.
Harish Bhimani: Bhimani sounds too self-indulgent, seems to be in love with his own voice. Pronunciation and inflection are questionable. The translation sounds flat, dead, worn.
    Beautiful
Jacoby's voice is exquisite. Despite being an abridged version, this is absolutely worth the listen. And a re-listen...
    Great story, horid narrater
Would you try another book from Herman Hesse and/or Derek Jacobi?
I like Herman Hesse & will continue to read his books
Who was your favorite character and why?
The wise boat man, he had already walked his path & was, where we all strive to be.
Would you be willing to try another one of Derek Jacobis performances?
    no
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    Consideration of life
    Great Book
I liked the voice of the reader. This is a beautiful book. People with connection to the indian subcontinent would enjoy this completely
Blown Away. Everything I hope for in a story.
If you could sum up Siddhartha in three words, what would they be?
    Life eternal: om.
What did you like best about this story?
The way all things come into One in the end.
The conclusion gave me chills. It is exhilarating, exciting, and peaceful.
The whole story arc of Siddharta is beautiful. I love the concept of listening to the river. I loved the ferry boatman. I loved the art of listening.
What does Derek Jacobi bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Derek Jacobi is the best narrator there is.
His gentle expression, deep understanding, and simple voice make his work stand out among all others.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes.

    Publisher's Summary:
Like the Tao Te Ching and the Bhagavad-Gita, this sacred text has guided the inner and outer lives of countless people in the art of living and the struggle for inner transformation. According to tradition, the words in The Dhammapada come directly from the mouth of Buddha. This translation in particular is among the most poetic and spiritually insightful. After it is read, Dr. Jacob Needleman presents his own essay, which compares Buddhism to other religions and explains the significance of The Dhammapada in Buddhism.

    Excellent in its wisdom
While The wisdom and sayings are excellent. The reader is dry, mono-tone, and will actually start to put you to sleep.
    Wonderful sayings from the budda!
This audio book is just simply one of the BEST i have ever had the pleasure of listening to. It is HIGHLY recommended, it has plenty of concentrated wisdom of the budda in it. Trust me this audio is good.
A Dhammapada That Speaks Directly to the Heart
This audio version of the Dhammapada is a personal, intimate one and speaks directly to the deepest level of the human heart as none of the more expensive versions I've read or sampled on Audible have thus far. Don't let the relatively short duration, low price tag and sparse fan fare fool you, this is a profoundly executed Dhammapada that is classic in simplicity and sticks to the essentials of the original text, skipping the commentary temptations that sound like a good idea, but on audio do not serve much purpose when reaching for a meditational aid like this.
Jacob Needleman has a penetrating voice that can move one to tears just from the poignancy and conviction of Needleman's personable, moving baritone delivery, which has the power to make the listener feel that he IS the Buddha at times. His voice sounds very compassionate as it reveals the timelessly fragmentary and simple recipe to inner peace.
    Perfect
This collection of teachings wastes no words. I will listen to this audiobook over and over again without a doubt. The reader's voice is perfect for such a book, as it doesn't distract the listener in any way and allows one to focus solely on the words being read. I have a relatively large library of audiobooks and this is up there with the best audiobook experiences I've had yet. I'm glad I chose it.
    Great
I think the reader sounds fine and the material comes across very clearly.

    Simple and elegant
Sylvia Boorstein wrote (and delivered) one of the most simple, elegant books on living zen. In a concise but interesting way she tells you how to follow Buddha's teachings and why following them makes your life work.
    good content; poor audio quality
I mistook this for Boorstein's later Audible release, Happiness is an Inside Job. While this older audiobook is an engaging, accessible introduction to Buddhism, the older download format (2)(at least my download) made Boorstein sound as if she narrated while undergoing dental work.
Audible, can't you convert this older format? The book is still a worthy a listen.
    Do you have 10 stars?
Her manner of speaking is such an easy way to listen.....I never wavy it to end
    Great beginner's book on Buddhism
What made the experience of listening to It's Easier than You Think the most enjoyable?
It's easy to understand, clearly laid out with lots of examples to clarify the principals. The author does a very nice job reading her book. Her style is warm and conversational with gentle humor. I enjoyed every word, and I was able to apply some of the practices right away. I would like to read it again to help me to remember the teachings and to help me put them into practice.
    Any additional comments?
The writing was wonderful and the performance was great. My only issue was with the recording quality. The sound was quite muffled. This forced me to have to pay close attention to be able to understand what was being said. I find it humorous and ironic that I am writing that, because the whole point of the book is that we would suffer less if we could learn to pay attention and really work to understand what is being said. So I am not complaining about that, but I think it will be helpful to other listeners if they know this is the case.

    Settle the matter for yourself
The challenge of zen is to settle this matter of life and death for yourself in this moment. Any book that gives you mere philosophy, or dogma, should be immediately tossed away. Foyan points out the way directly; an indispensable guide.
This book might change your life
This is pure Zen philosophy without the ritual nonsense about tea ceremonies, mediation techniques and sitting positions. If you like Alan Watts, then you will love this book.
    Buddhist "pick me up"
This is the kind of dhamma talk that cuts through all the concepts we flap around to distract ourselves from seeing what's real, even if it hurts at first.
Great talk, great teacher. No apologies for slightly stilted language, it doesn't take anything away from this communication.
    Content excellent, reading poor
This is not read by Thomas Cleary, the narrator did not bother to find out how to pronounce the names of the Chan masters quoted properly, making the listening quite awkward. The content, however, as all of Cleary's work, is excellent. Audible should present more from his Zen corpus (not just the 'Art of War' stuff).
    Seriouse folks.. A MUST READ*
Amazing teacher! This is one of the BEST teachers I have heard.
Sadly, I feel there's a lot of false zen teachers in the west right now misguiding students.. Many of which hold tittles in various lineages, guiding students, running temples & zendo's.
This book has helped me in so may ways... for one, to see that I was not alone in what I have seen. Master Foyan cuts trough all the BS that was present in his time & is clearly the same situation in our modern era.. His "no apologies" style teachings call it as he sees it, hitting the mark right on the nose.. This book will help anyone who is interest in gaining the eyes to see which Teachers are full of BS & which are not, & help you gain the eyes to see true Dharma for yourself.
If this teacher was alive today, I wouldn't be writing this review because I'd be on my way to his monastery.
If you would rather stop being fooled by false teachers & wake up today, instead of sleeping on your cushion for another 10 years... then this is the book for you!
He even brings up some valid criticism of the "present moment" style teachers that interestingly enough seem to be on the rise again today.
    Endless Bows,
May we each find our way*

The selections in this program are from Moon in a Dewdrop, and were chosen by Gary Snyder.

    Uneven but rewarding
If you enjoy the paradoxical yet profound teachings of Zen Buddhism, then you'll want to listen to this.
I found both the teachings and the narration a little slow (boring?) until about midway through, when Dogen's teachings became more intellectually interesting, paradoxical and humorous (although it's probably just me).
Definitely not for everybody, but maybe for you.
    Not Review
Over 30 years ago, my very first introduction to anything buddhist was Dogen. I still have yet to barely scratch the surface. I have always liked the fact that, just when I thought I have understood something, reading further dismantles that.
    For the time-being
    Any additional comments?
This is for some one a little farther down the path. Understanding basic Buddhist concepts is an absolute prerequisite. To the average western person this may sound baffling and nothing but gibberish, however to the experienced mediator who has gained insight this shines like the rays of a million suns and opens the gate of the gateless gate. Truly Zen in it's finest form. I have listened to this three times over periods of time and a forth listen is certainly in the future.
    Accessible
If you could sum up The Teachings of Zen Master Dogen in three words, what would they be?
What about Gary Snyders performance did you like?
The reading is clean and concise. No sense of pretention or sanctimony. Snyder has opened my dharma ear.
    Any additional comments?
I've always had difficulty reading Dogen; he just didn't make sense. Listening to him being read has been a revelation! His meaning is becoming more and more clear and I'm really beginning to like him. A lot.

    Publisher: Erik Smith
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
    Publisher's Summary:
All human beings have Kundalini inside their bodies - some have awakened this energy, while many don't even know that it exists. The people who know about this are using more of their innate potential and are transforming themselves, others, and the world for the better. It's because this energy is none other than the force of evolution that drives the entirety of creation, and nature has placed it upon the base of our spines.
Ancient people have known about the Kundalini, and they guarded the knowledge intensely to prevent people from abusing its power. For thousands of years, knowledge of how to activate it is passed only from guru to carefully selected student and never to anyone else. This has changed during recent times, when Kundalini masters finally disseminated the information to outsiders. This outpouring of Kundalini knowledge is said to be a response to the needs of modern times.
As science and technology developed, materialism grew in strength, and spirituality was shelved as a relic of the ignorant past. People became distracted by their inventions and separated themselves from nature and their very own souls. Thus, perhaps it is the spirit itself that enticed humans' interest in the spiritual - something that old religions have attempted to do but did not achieve completely.
Kundalini awakening is just one of the ways in which one can return to the divine. Doing so does not only bring great joy; it also enables him or her to access more of the energy that runs throughout creation and see more of reality as it really is.
