Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Religious Thought
    Publisher's Summary:
In 1999 His Holiness The Dalai Lama published the best-selling Ancient Wisdom: Modern World, which addressed the question of ethics for the new millennium. A decade later, His Holiness enters the contemporary debate about religion vs atheism and returns to the theme of ethics with a major new work: Beyond Religion: ethics for a whole world.
In this thought-provoking new book, he argues that religion is not a necessity for pursuing a spiritual life. Rather, focusing on tolerance and understanding between religions, as well as tolerance and understanding between believers (of any faith) and non-believers is the way forward. The way to achieve such an approach, he proposes, is through a system of secular ethics grounded in a deep appreciation of our common humanity.
Aimed particularly at the general listener, Beyond Religion is a modern-day polemic which outlines those ethics he believes should be central to our lives.
Thandie Newton has starred in Hollywood blockbusters such as Mission: Impossible II opposite Tom Cruise, The Pursuit of Happiness opposite Will Smith, and in Guy Ritchies RocknRolla. She won critical acclaim for her role in Crash, for which she won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and she has also had a regular role in the television series ER.

    Publisher's Summary:
Dr. Hawkins introduces his first lecture in the Sedona Series with an explanation of why he wrote the book, Power vs. Force. He wanted to provide a way for people to move from the everyday linear world of black and white to the less familiar, abstract, nonlinear world without thinking they were moving into a mystical, imaginary realm. He wanted to enlarge the paradigm of reality of science so the intelligent person could comprehend the work and conclude that there was something to look at in the nonlinear domain.
Dr. Hawkins talks about the shift in psychiatry in which everything has to be evidence based and how the Map of Consciousness provides that documentation, along with the response of the human being to the field of consciousness. He further explains the development of the Map of Consciousness and discusses the various levels and characteristics of human consciousness, from below 200, where everything is detrimental to life, to above 200, where that which is true, valid, pro-life, and spiritually whole contributes to life. Dr. Hawkins discusses the higher levels as well and how a true guru or teacher has to calibrate over 540, the level of Unconditional Love. He gives a brief description of what may be experienced at the levels above 540, and on up to 1,000.The world of duality is discussed and how the research seemed to bring up a polarity similar to good and evil. At first it seemed like two different worlds, but then it was found that creation is continuous and evolutionary. Also, there are no either-ors but instead variations in qualities, e.g. more or less light. He further explains the Map of Consciousness and the characteristics and experiences that occur along the scale. He delves into the concepts of positionality and duality and the roles they play in our lives. He also explains how to change our perceptions.
Dr. Hawkins then talks about the misunderstandings surrounding the concept of causality and the perceptual blocks they create. They prevent us from seeing what is actually going on and block our experience of the Presence of God. Spiritual awareness has to do with understanding the nature of Creation and of God. He emphasizes that it is essential for spiritual teachers to calibrate above consciousness level 200, the level of truth and courage. In the Newtonian Paradigm of reality and our society, there is a this causing a that. Consequently, becoming enlightened in this world is difficult because the mind, the ego, and feelings are barraged continuously by a paradigm of reality that is based on duality. Dr. Hawkins says that consciousness research is the only approach he knows to really investigate the reality behind the worlds teachings. He states that the purpose of the lectures is to share how we come to the knowingness of the presence of God. He talks about the nature of God in a way that is easily understood and defines the spirit, the field in which it moves, and the effect of Karma. He lets us know that life is continuous, that its source is Divinity, and provides the proof.
This lecture provides the foundation for all the lectures that follow and is very helpful for understanding the advanced information. It concludes with questions from the audience being answered by Dr.

    Publisher's Summary:
Yes, you have a name, a personal history, and important goals and aspirations. But there is so much more to you than that. Recorded on retreat in Rishikesh, India, The Deepest Truth of Human Existence invites you to join Eckhart Tolle to realize who you are beyond the thought-based "little me" that too often dominates our lives.
Eckhart begins by exploring the way we come to develop a separate sense of self and how, from a very young age, our minds are conditioned to maintain what he calls "the story in the head". Offering practical pointers for freeing ourselves from "the primacy of the ego", Eckhart guides us into the direct experience of our essential nature beyond the level of thinking as he discusses:
"The truth of who we are is never found in the past or future," explains Eckhart. "It is here, now, immediate." The Deepest Truth of Human Existence gives you the opportunity to make this great discovery yourself.

In "Die Hütte.

    Title: The Prophet
    Author: Khalil Gibran

    Release date: 09-24-08
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 35 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Religious Thought
    Publisher's Summary:
The first book, The Prophet, was originally published in 1923 and is considered Gibran's masterpiece. It is written in prose poetry in 28 parts, and deals with such topics as love, freedom, good and evil, religion, and death. It is a mystical and intensely subjective work, presenting the human soul as essentially noble and good.
In The Forerunner, originally published in 1920, Gibran asserts that "Nobody is to be blamed for our 'being' and 'having' but ourselves." Gibran makes it clear that we are our own destiny and not the toy of a blind fate.
Finally, the titular entity of The Madman, originally published in 1918, is not literally mentally unbalanced; on the contrary, he is perfectly healthy. His madness is only in the eyes of others. Gibran asserts that we tend to be what society expects from us, even though these expectations could be detrimental for the development of our self-identity. Oftentimes, we veil our true selves with masks out of fear of being ridiculed by others.
    Editorial Reviews:
Almost a century after its publication, The Prophet seems to resonate with audiences more than ever. Indeed, a 2009 New Yorker article cited Kahlil Gibran as the third best-selling poet of all time, behind only Shakespeare and Lao-tzu. Part of The Prophets appeal can surely be attributed to its breadth - its ability to deal with subjects ranging from the lofty abstraction of love and spirituality to the seemingly superficial notions of clothing and beauty. All of Gibrans musings are shrouded in his ethereal, but practical, brand of mysticism, rendered here in the lilting velvet baritone of performer Jonathan Reese. Reeses sonorous voice is itself almost hymnal, as the performer deftly captures the cadence of Gibrans prose poetry.

Just so awe inspiring and a top classic.
Okay I am being biased here but I must be truthful, this is the BOOK to have 2 copies of (for yourself), audio versions and electronic version too.I treasure this book since I first came across it 26 years ago, have given 5 copies away as gifts and now will give 2 copies to my kids.I adore this book and never tire of it, i love it and now can listen to it.Buy it, read it or listen to it and it resonates with your heart.A simple language of love and insight about the virtuous of being a human.!
    To revisit again and again
It is slow, but if you have patience and hear the stories a few times, you will love this book.
Many stories don't make sense at the beginning, some don't make sense at all.
    Relax and enjoy good philosophy.
    /Good but could be better
The Prophet is wonderful, as always. It is beautifully written and makes your soul feel better reading it.
Having said that, the narration is somewhat lacking. There's something about the narration that murmurs s, "Sleep. Sleep now," until you can't resist. Otherwise, its great, and even with the lack luster vocals, it's still well worth the credit.

    Indispensable
Perfect selection from one of the greatest minds in human history. And beautifully read as well.
    Odd presentation style
I am a fan of Seneca,
and have read most of his works.
This collection of sayings was not done
    all that well.
The female voice is difficult to understand
    at times.
The audio file is worth listening to.
It will give you a sense of Senaca's thoughts,
but I had higher hopes for it.
    Not for newcomers to stoicism
I think that in order to appreciate this book you must have some understanding of stoicism if not the core idea of what it means to live stoically.
comforting when distressed. facing a difficulty?
This provides a bolster for courage, and perspective regardless of what is looming. The basis of Albert Ellis's Guide to Rational Living can be found is Seneca's wisdom.
    Disappointing
This is not the pure unadulterated work of Seneca but rather a modern 'take' on it, read alternately by a male and female speaker making constant references to the modern world using a modern vocabulary. The wisdom and beauty of the original thought and prose are lost in the translation.
