    New Chapter in FR
I am a huge Forgotten Realms fan. I will read almost any book that takes place in the FR D&D setting (though admittedly I am not too fond of Elminster). I have enjoyed Cordell's books, but the writing style of the Sword of the Gods seems different from his Abolethic Sovereignty series.
Since the Spellplague, I have been waiting for the drow to make a reappearance (Drizzt doesn't count because he is one drow and is not involved in the other events concerning his race). Since the events in Lady Penitent (great tirlogy, by the way), we have not heard much from the black-skinned race, and many questions are as yet unanswered. Lolth's plan to take over the Weave is, frankly, terrifying, but one can tell Wizards of the Coast is finally putting events into motion after the Spellplague. It was kind of strange to read about a deva and the drow in the same book, but not in a bad way. We also start to learn more of Damascus' past. I found the flashback of him fighting to free souls and angels coming to ferry them away before the mountain collapsed quite interesting, and I wish there had been more of it.
All in all, a must read for any Forgotten Realms fan. The only real complaint I have is that it is only available as an ebook. Kindle is good for some books, but I like my FR books in hard copy, thank you very much. If it ever does come out in book form, I'm buying it, even though it is already on my Kindle. The first one was a hard copy, so why wasn't this one?
    Demascus, Drow, and The Queen
This is the second novel about Demascus, the sword of the gods. In this installment, Demascus and crew help out the Queen of Akanul with a problem she can't handle through legitimate means. Also, a new party is introduced, who have nefarious designs for Demascus. During the course of the novel Demascus recovers more memories of his previous selves, some from before he even came to Realms space. His friends are put into compromising positions, and we get to see them work through the issues. This book has a lot going on in it.
I really enjoyed it; it has everything a Realms fan can ask for Airspur gangsters, Drow, Monarchs in action, Powerful artifacts, Deities, Vampires, Epic battle scenes, cameo's of characters from other books, and betrayal. I really love how Demascus is seeing the differences between who he is now and who he was and I am excited to see how this may play out in the future. I can't get enough of Airspur, the city sounds amazing and dangerous and full of energy. This novel also gave me a greater sense of things happening within the Realms outside of the narrative.

    do they have a summary?
I like a lot of the characters. they do some cool things. the narration is awful. the book gets muddled up in senseless what if thinking by the characters. also the whole thing is not really plausible by what I know of angels in d and d. they would smoke that demon and there wouldn't be a story. I had a bad experience with this one.
    Love it!
The accents get a bit confusing at times, but the narrator does a Fabulous job! I love it!
    sigh
didn't care for the performance the accents she placed on the characters seemed out of place. liked the story very much.

There too, a band of barbarian villagers make their stand against the remnants of an ogre empire that is determined to once again rule the frozen wastes.
In the first book of this thrilling trilogy, Douglas Niles takes his listeners to a land that most in Krynn have heard of only in legen - the legend of the Icewall.

    Entertaining
Would you listen to The Messenger again? Why?
I would listen again. The book moved fairly fast and kept the story fresh. It was more interesting than I was expecting since pre-cataclysm this part of Krynn was never really mentioned. However Douglas Niles seemed to tie it in with the rest of the world pretty well. And it's tie in with previous books (mainly The Irda) although small - at least made sense.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Ax Norman was okay as the reader - his voice is clear however this book seemed to call for a wider range of voices than Ax could preform - all his voices sound almost identical to each other and this book had characters from many different cultures that would have benefited from more unique voices.

Riverwind, aging chieftain of the Que-Shu, answers the call. Accompanied by his beloved daughter Brightdawn, Riverwind sets out in his final quest to save the kender from Malys's wrath...and to find sense in a world abandoned by the gods.
Chris Pierson's novel tells the stirring tale of the final quest of Riverwind, one of the original companions of the best-selling Dragonlance series.
    Members Reviews:
    Fun Story and Exciting Listen!
What did you love best about Spirit of the Wind?
Chris Pierson did a great job giving his characters histories and personalities that were exciting, unique, and honest. The story moved briskly and was well peppered with dialogue, action, stories, history, and song. The world was well imagined and thorough and I could picture and imagine the environments as they went by.
Tristan Morris' reading of 'Spirit of the Wind' really brought the characters to life. It was through his use of voice and atmosphere that I got a clear sense of the characters very unique personalities and characteristics. Tristan's Kron was honest, mischievous, and loyal. His Riverwind was grounded and powerful yet gentle. His ogres were not mindless, but were eager to follow and quick to act, without much though to consequence. Malice was cold, heartless, and relished in evil, a perfect capture for her. The narration was perfect for the epic tale, serious not severe, creating an atmosphere of suspense and determination, exactly like the adventure the characters set out on.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I think Riverwind was my favorite because I felt the deepest connection with him. His sense of loss for all the friends that died before him, his sense of sadness at having to leave his family behind when he died, his pain at losing his daughter before her time, and his stoic heroism and bravery.
Which character as performed by Tristan Morris was your favorite?
Kron was definitely my favorite of Tristan Morris'. The childlike, impish quality of his voice was the PERFECT depiction of the Kinder that Pierson illustrated in his book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did almost cry when Riverwind lost BrightDawn. I really got lost in the story and caught up with the characters emotional life, and Tristan did a very honest and poignant job bringing that scene to life.

Most? Finding books for my collection. Interested in all forgotten realms/dragonlance books to complete my collection.
    Old school fantasy
This is another series I read long ago when I was first getting into high fantasy as a genre. The Forgotten Realms books are great for teens and young adults. Hell, who am I kidding? I am almost 30 years old and I still like these old school Forgotten Realms novels.
Great read, especially for Druid lovers.
Good old school adventure story. This is my second time reading this book.
I read a lot of books
Most of the Forgotten Realms or D&D books I read are the same in that they are fine and good for passing the time. I find it's necessary to know all the background info in order to understand the next book that comes out. It was good, but nothing really exciting.

    Publisher's Summary:
Giants Among Us is the second novel in a trilogy that deals with the giants ofthe Forgotten Realms setting. Giants are little written about, and this trilogy, written by New York Times best-selling author Troy Denning, was the first to detail them.
The rise of a new queen has shattered the ancient peace of the Ice Spires, and the only thing left standing between Hartsvale and the giant tribes bent on her destruction is a lone scout armed with a single golden arrow. And now that sanctuary is about to end.
The queen is trapped in a remote citadel, surrounded by giants, and the scout who would save her must now leave and undertake a harrowing journey to summon help. Only, as the scout soon learns, the greatest danger to the queen is posed not from without, but from within.

    No Giant
Slow development. Lost interest. It was not a good read. Rate of money. If I had to do over . I would save my money
    A Towering Sequel
The Giant Among Us is the second book in Troy Denning's The Twilight Giants trilogy. Tavis the Firbolg and Brianna, Queen of Hartsvale, are back for another adventure teeming with giants. But like any Denning tale, things are never easy for our heroes. This time the threats come from within as well as without. Can Tavis save the women he loves, or will he be destined to loose his golden arrow to save the entire kingdom from a horrible prophecy of doom?
The story kicks off with a suitable introduction. Giants besiege a small town, killing all that they find, even the most innocent of victims. The cover (newer one) illustrates what becomes a chilling and dark scene. It's a sign of things to come. No longer is there a peace between the people of Hartsvale and the giant tribes. A shadow has crossed the land.
Brianna finds herself trapped for most of this story. Cut off in a castle surrounded by giants, she struggles to protect her people. It's up to Tavis to go get help. Most troubling of all, Tavis has to leave Brianna in the protection of a stranger. Even worse, the stranger has come to court Queen Brianna, and the Queen actually considers his offer. Of course she doesn't love the stranger. She actually goes as far as to offer Tavis a role as a secret lover. Yet even if he wanted to, Tavis can't accept the offer. Being a firbolg, he can't live a lie. Thus he's stuck in a bad position that just gets worse.
The action, prose, and characters continue to shine in the series and Denning does a wonderful job of following up to The Ogre's Pact. If you enjoyed the first one, you'll definitely want to check this one out.
Now to delve into some spoilers. Be warned, if you want to remain spoiler free, tread no further.
Part of this book is a real torture test on the emotions of the reader. We all want to see Tavis and Brianna have a happy ending together. Yet Troy does his damndest to use that very desire against the reader. Brianna plays the role of the practical minded ruler. Her wishes to do the best for her kingdom lead her to believe that she needs to find a king. This leads her to Prince Arlien. The prince is a character that you can't help but hate. He's Tavis' opposition. But things are much worse than just a troubled love triangle. Prince Arlien is really an Ettin in disguise who ends up drugging Brianna and causing trouble all around.

    good read love the book
    Like a compendium
Very many tales of characters. Like a compendium. Some are rather funny as stories go. Helps to round out the characters that are in most of Hickman and Weiss books. Enjoyable relaxing read.
    "By Istar, that was good!"
Well, having read The Cataclysm before this, I was prepared for more worthless depressing stories except one or two (see my review on it). However I was pleasently suprised. Nearly all the stories have the same moral, but each one shows it in a different light. "Six Songs For The Temple Of Istar" was rather good, considering I usually don't appreciate poetry. "Colors Of Belief" however, was very good, showing how even the gods of evil contribute their share to the balance. It was very inspiring to see a dark elf have compassion for other races who were (for the most part) righteous. "Kender Stew", was a gay tale, and showed some small revenge on the part of The Knights Of Solmania on Istar, despite having no true moral. "The Goblin's Wish", despite being sadly tragic showed how we should unite instead of trying to win for ourselves. The only two who came out clean were the elf who wanted to defeat the madness of Istar and the kender, who was pure of heart and got his beautiful and moral wish for peace for his friends and him. "The Three Lives Of Horgan Oxthrall", showed again the beauty of mercy and how it comes back to you as said "send your bread upon the water, for one day you will find it". "filling Out The Empty Places", was a not written as good but, again showed the beauty of mercy and its rewards."Off Day", was another gay story about the clan of Bulp, but, unlike "Kender Stew", made a profound impact upon the world and showed how one small thing, gully dwarves emptying a cask of wine, changed the world. Finally last and best, "The Silken Threads", showed us once again the power of love and started a beautiful tale which continued in "The Cataclysn" (again, see my review). Also, Raistlin appears and as always, the last story gives us (at least me) the proof that even when all seems dark, there is hope and love.
Most stories good, a couple disappointing
As I am not a huge fan of short stories, I was surprised to find most of these excellent. 'Colors of Belief' was an further insight as to how the Games of Istar worked after Caramon's experiences in the Legends. 'Kender Stew' was very funny and a nice little story. 'The Goblin's Wish' was my favourite, a saddening tale of how different races banded together to fight Istar. 'The Three Lives of Horgan Oxthrall' was not so good. The scribe's narration is just silly, I think Douglas Niles could've just told the story and got on with it.
