Janet Jackson stepped out on her own in the winter of 1986 as a young woman ready to, well, take Control of her life. And that's what she did on her third studio album, the first with the legendary production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on the boards and it proved to be a mission statement as well as ushering the world into a new era of female pop star. It's our #CPNTShow #BMM30 album of the day for sure and one of Chris' favorites of all time.

Final week of the #CPNTShow's #BMM30 series leads off with the late, great (and somehow underrated) Rick James and his 1983 album "Cold Blooded," the last album to really do well commercially and critically for Rick, who deserves more love as one of the greatest musicians to ever walk the planet.

We couldn't get through June without discussing the greatest American band of all-time.

The Isley Brothers topped both R&B and Pop Charts in 1975 with "The Heat Is On" and the heat is definitely present on this album. Angry protest songs, aggressive musicianship and smooth grooves to close it out make it the perfect album to start with if you want to understand the greatness of the Isleys.

We get into some old soul for Day 22 of the #BMM30 series - the Temptations' 1998 album "Phoenix Rising," a tribute to the spirit of the original Tempts with contemporary R&B production, also a very important album in the romantic soul of a then 17 year-old Chris.
