    Title: Nor Many Waters
    Author: Alec Waugh
    Narrator: Alan Marriott
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 12 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-30-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Nor Many Waters first appeared in 1928. This novel is typical Alec Waugh in its charm and grace, and its shrewd perception of human emotions and profound exploration of human relationships.
Alec Waugh, 1898-1981, was a British novelist born in London and educated at Sherborne Public School, Dorset. Waughs first novel, The Loom of Youth (1917), is a semi-autobiographical account of public school life that caused some controversy at the time and led to his expulsion. Waugh was the only boy ever to be expelled from The Old Shirburnian Society.
Despite setting this record, Waugh went on to become the successful author of over 50 works, and lived in many exotic places throughout his life which later became the settings for some of his texts. He was also a noted wine connoisseur and campaigned to make the cocktail party a regular feature of 1920s social life.
    Members Reviews:
    Frightfully decent
It takes place in a London with a culture of decency practically forgotten. Two thoroughly decent chaps in a divorce tussle over the wife of one of them. She finally decides that she would be damaging to the man she wants to run off with, and returns to her husband. The plotting of a soap opera, or the logic of a prize-winning economist?
The woman never really comes to life, for all her 'gay laugh', etc. The author is also a thoroughly decent chap, so much so that you can't tell how far the affair got. Of course, a skilled writer doesn't need to have a sex scene every five pages to create sexual intensity, but Waugh writes as if the characters had nothing going on below the belt at all.
There were some strange verbal and typographical habits that I found off-putting. Waugh writes in a sometimes convoluted style, for example beginning a sentence with 'Than'. Also, he contracts 'he would', for example, as 'he'ld'.
I would have preferred the novel of James and Marian after they had run off, living in the Tangier of the 1920s and 1930s! Still, I kept turning the page and the mores never lost their interest.

They argue and his life is turned up side down.

    Hometown
As a person who grew up in this part of Louisiana I know these character. I am these characters. Well done.
Cat and Mouse, A Second Cajun Tale
This book was very entertaining. It was full of mystery, laughter and some sadness. I really liked it and could not put it down after starting to read it...
    A rollicking, rowdy, romp
Jim Theall nails the Cajun world to a T. I felt like one of the guys as good old southern Louisiana Cajun conversation flowed naturally and consistently in Cat and Mouse: a second Cajun tale. Cat Touchette is a stubborn feller cranky about his age. He's tough on the bad guys but always a trusted and loyal friend. If I were to assign keywords to the novel I'd say it was a rollicking, rowdy, romp through heat and humidity. Jim Theall's tale is an enjoyable and entertaining read.

    Publisher's Summary:
Internet romance woven within the politics of the globe. The microcosm of the macrocosm and back.
A Facebook connection brings two people together for a journey neither is sure they want to take. Divorce? Dealing with narcissistic personality disorder? Mormon versus Catholic beliefs? When they meet, they know their souls have waited lifetimes, but the entanglements of marriage and biases, coupled with the politics in America, make falling in love easy, but staying in love a challenge.
    Members Reviews:
Not at all a story about love.
What would have made Ilyr better?
The author seemed very angry at another person she wanted to be her lover and was rejected. She is very angry at the Obama administration and uses her book to state her unfounded biases. She is confused about relationships, religion, and the role of counselor/teacher.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something that leaves me less upset.
Which character as performed by Kimberly Henrie was your favorite?
She delivers the author convictions accurately.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Ilyr?
The whole book was difficult, the author seems to be really struggling with her own identity.
As a counselor she had her own agenda from the beginning in this relationship which she denied, At points she stated she was acting as a counselor and at other times as a lover. The children in her book, John and Jason, she directly cause these individuals to deteriorate and then took credit for saving. Her form of education is very controlling and scary. She is doing exactly what she blames the Obama administration of doing.
    Any additional comments?
This seems to be a very confused person. She doesn't have insight into the harm she was doing to the young people in her book. She had no sense of boundaries. At the end she didn't seem to have any insight into her own behavior and why the relationship failed.

    Critic Reviews:
A breakneck, jam-packed, roller coaster of an adventure. (J. K. Rowling)
    Members Reviews:
    Never again
Would you try another book from Chris Columbus and Ned Vizzini and/or Daniel Vincent Gordh?
Never another book from Chris Columbus again! He is a movie maker and should keep doing that instead. His book is filled with obvious movie scenes, grand and majestic, but the plot is incredibly thin and the characters are laughable.
Daniel Vincent Gordh however did an amazing job and I would love to hear more from him.
What could Chris Columbus and Ned Vizzini have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Write a better book with a good plot and likable characters.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Daniel was amazing, his change in tone made it easy to hear which character was speaking and he really went all in.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I had such high hopes for this book but was severely disappointed.
    Any additional comments?
I tried this book mainly becauses of Daniel Vincent Gordh (Darcy!) and he sure didn't disappoint. I hope he gets another chance to read a better book!
    Soulless money-spinner
This feels like a very calculated attempt to stitch together a bunch of themes and plot lines that a marketing team have decided children like, and then sell the book off the back of Harry Potter director Chris Columbus's name rather than the merits of the story itself. There are also some infuriating gender stereotypes that you really don't expect to see this side of the millennium. I had to give up on it halfway through because it was irritating me so much.

Der er intet belrende over denne prisbelnnede frske ungdomsroman ... P en fin mde formr forfatteren p én gang at bringe sine 10 hovedpersoners meget forskellige perspektiver p weekendens begivenheder i spil og at bibeholde sit forfatterblik p den samlede fortlling ... Meget frsk. Meget fint. (Karen Lise Sndergaard Brandt, Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten)

Den tyske ugeavis Die Zeit kaldte den med henvisning til Thomas Manns romanklassiker om en tysk kbmandsfamilies fald for 'den store DDR-Buddenbrooks-roman'. Det er store ord, men ikke for store. The Potter's Daughter
I was drawn in to Abby' s story right from page one, and it kept my attention to the very last page!! In fact I was disappointed when her story came to an end, I wanted more!! The author did an excellent job with his descriptions of all the places in Willow Lake, I was able to visualize myself being right there with them in the story. The story was full of interesting characters and places, I am hoping Abby' s story will continue in a sequel, I'd like to visit Willow Lake again, maybe in the summer? I would definitely recommend this book!!
    good read!
Clastic story of family dynamics, generational differences. it is a love story on several levels. I enjoyed it could see my own family.
    Four Stars
    Ok
    The Potters Daughter
This book was an awesome read! I enjoyed reading it. I really wish there were more books like this! Please read!
    Another Form Romance Novel
I read for entertainment, not for literary value. "The Potter's Daughter" was just one more in a long line of romance novels that seems to take the easy way out ...following the usual format of romance novels. I'm sorry, but while I often enjoy such novels, I seek a little more depth to a story. Woman discovers hot-looking hunk male, her knees turn weak, she's instantly in love/lust, and then there's the usual tensions of some kind, then they all live happily ever after in gingerbread houses.
Sorry, but life is just not like that. I mean, do women really get weak in the knees when they see some hot-looking hunk of a man?
Maybe I've just read so many such novels that I'm sated?
