Ali Reynolds is traveling that same blistering, lonesome highway, looking forward to putting her past behind her. But her cheating husband is in a hurry for a divorce, and the television network that wrongfully dismissed her for the sole sin of being over 40 will face her in court as well.
As she passes the site of a horrifying accident, Ali is grateful that it's no longer her job to report the news, until she finds out that the news is her own: the victim is Ali's cheating husband. And soon she'll find herself the prime suspect at the center of a terrifying web of evil.
A twisted and lethal drama of heart-pounding suspense, Web of Evil asks the question: If hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, just what punishment could that fury unleash?

Not My Favorite Jance Novel
I am very much a J. A. Jance fan. I love her Brady series and like her Beaumont series almost as much. I find her Ali Reynolds books a little too contrived. The character fluctuates a little too much between being foolhardy to the point of stupidity and scared to death. And what seems unrealustic to me is that the only times she seems really frightened occur when she is surrounded by protection whereas she seemingly fearlessly walks into situation after situation in which common sense would tell a person they are dangerous - not to mention the fact that in most cases she has been warned they are dangerous. I realize such occurances are part of the plot but it is why events in the Ali Reynolds books seem contrived. I also find the blog entries a bit tiresome.
Fast-paced, twisting and enjoyable
Fast-paced, twisting and enjoyable. Character Ali Reynolds and her blog "cut loose" provide great entertainment as she battles a variety of issues. Easy to follow story line and surprise ending.
"According to my therapist, I had to grieve not only for the man who was gone but also for the man who never wasâ and for the dream I once had about how our life together would be. Grieving for the dream is as hard as grieving for the person."
I gave this book three stars as rape/pregnancy/abortion detracted from the story.
Unfortunately abortion was brought into the story. A rapist managed to impregnate two girls from the same family. One girl chose abortion and that made her evil.
I may re-read this story and look forward to other works by this author.
Shoots A Hole In Her Reputation
This was a disappointment. After I read this, I wondered if Jance used a ghost writer. Many authors, including Jance (or ghost writer?) do very little research on firearms. Taking a handgun to California without following some strict requirements, is illegal and can get you arrested. Carrying one concealed without one of the few permits, which are not issued to non-residents, WILL get you arrested. The plot was quite promising until about three-fourths of the way through the book. The shootout in the restaurant was more like a scene from a Grade B cops and robbers movie. There were many inconsistencies and unlikely turns in the plot. The reader will find them obvious, if they read the book. I suggest reading her Joanna Brady novels first, as well as the early JP Beaumont novels. I'm giving it three stars -- "It was okay" -- for the plot, altho it wasn't well developed.
