Timestamps of big takeaways
[00:21] Coach Caroline opens the episode by sharing the reason for the start of the podcast is that they see a lot of articles and posts online about running, and they want to dispel the myths and address the facts. Today’s topic is how to stop getting so tired while running.
[01:25] Coach Valerie explains that when she first got into running, she was coaching a running group that couldn’t understand how she could run and talk. But, it was a result of her endurance that she built up while teaching aerobics classes.
[02:30] People in her aerobics classes could do an hour of class, but couldn’t run a mile without getting winded. Coach Valerie realized it wasn’t a cardio problem - they didn't have the elasticity and the muscular strength needed for running. That’s why they would get so tired.
[04:00] The reason people get winded while running? It’s because you haven’t had the training and so you’re inefficient in running. Most people are getting tired because they're just moving wrong.
[05:30] When doing a stationary bike exercise, you can unweigh yourself by taking your hands off the handlebars for a minute or slowing down to catch your breath. That’s why you might not get as tired with that kind of workout.
[05:50] Going “slower” is not the answer. The answer is to build your strength and elasticity and learn how to hold your own body weight - this is how you'll reduce the fatigue in your run.
