The barn burning furiously now, the possum reappears and attacks Lyle again. As he fends it off, it catches fire. But Lyle cannot figure out how to save his friend Matteo—or whatever he’s become. The roof collapses around him. Passing out in the smoke, he hears banshees cry in the night and sees a new monster approach. It’s a first responder. Outside, Frank helps Lyle into a waiting ambulance. He’s terrified Matteo may have died. Passing out again, he’s visited by the spirit of Flo Hendricks.

Lyle is shocked by Matteo’s appearance. The barn has caught fire thanks to Lyle’s Molotov cocktail, and they debate which of them must leave. Matteo agrees to attempt to bring down the sordid old barn with a farm mallet he finds, then uses it to slam the rabid possum attacking Lyle. Suddenly Matteo collapses, only to rise again transformed into a demon. The demon taunts Lyle, then attacks him. Lyle finally punches the demon so hard he collapses on the burning barn floor.

Lyle gets “Fred,” his old van driver, to pick him up. Fred stops for gas, and winds up filling Lyle’s empty scotch bottle instead. Suspicious now, Fred delivers him to Old Vic. His legs aching, Lyle uses a wheelchair to roll into the old barn next door with his full bottle and his gun. Suddenly Matteo appears. At the Limo Service, Berto is dancing to a boom box. Frank called for backup, and two squad cars screech up. Berto reveals his AR-15 and fires away. Georgie takes aim, getting off one shot; then discovers her car’s on fire.

After a huge blowup on camera, Lyle deserts the TV set and passes out in his room. Awakening later, he realizes Iko could actually be right about him. Distraught, he calls Silk to attempt an apology, waking her. Fumbling to speak to her, Lyle hears her snotty director is in bed with her, and freaks, hanging up. Frank calls Georgie and learns Berto is really screwed up, is acting up and may have a gun. Lyle does, too—and he formulates a crazy drunken plan.

Her televised memorial to Flo complete, Silk shocks Lyle by introducing her replacement, live on air. “Iko” is a Haitian mambo with deep supernatural understanding. Based on that, Iko has it in for Lyle. She suggests a demonic force is after Lyle because he’s a kindred spirit, and a weak one at that. Lyle has been drinking scotch and now feels has to decide, does he defend himself on camera? Or does he go on the attack?

Big Frank is on duty at Old Vic tonight, but first visited the precinct house. He tells Georgie over the phone that Internal affairs is there, and all over Sgt. Swanson’s locker. He got to go through some very old files and discovered something quite curious. He adds that, passing by the Montauk motel/bar, there’s a big network TV presence, and her father is there. On set, Silk assures Lyle she has prepared a proper memorial for Flo’s death. Meanwhile, “Scarface” Berto is acting up at the Limo Service, for Georgie.

Chantale visits Berto at his shabby limo service office and he stashes away his cocaine and his AR-15 military rifle. Once again, she is dressed for an evening out. Matteo meets Lyle at the bar, hands him a sad note found on the dead man’s body, and tries to sell Lyle on family values.
