One of Gibraltar’s beloved snacks — ham-flavoured crisps — may be at risk of disappearing, along with other smoked-flavoured products like sauces and meats. It comes after the EU's decision to ban eight smoke flavouring ingredients currently used in a number of foods and sauces. Our reporter Kevin Ruiz has been following this story.

We spoke to Denise De Vincenzi from Greece for the latest edition of "Llanitos Abroad", our weekly segment of the show where we connect with Gibraltarians who are pursuing their passions outside the Rock.

The Gibraltar National Museum's Dr Stewart Finlayson has been made an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Science at Liverpool John Moores University. We had the change to congratulate Stewart in the studio.

Our sports reporter Jose Mari Ruiz told us the latest about the Conference League qualifiers and the champions league qualifiers. He also covered the street basketball session that formed part of the SLOP activities at Eastern Beach last night.

And, the health benefits of exercise are widely known, but competitive fitness is taking the world by storm and later this year, Gibraltar will host its first ever functional fitness competition. Brothers Craig and Barry Curtis, as well as Vicky Harrison, are part of the organising committee and told us more about the challenge.

The Nautilus Project says fishing with illegal commercial "purse seine" fishing nets harms the eco-system, as they indiscriminately fish anything that gets caught in it. Last night a fishing boat was spotted using what appear to be these nets off the East Side. The Environment Department's vessel, Storm Petrel, dealt with the incident by escorting the boat out of Gibraltar waters. Claire Hernandez told us more.

GBC ran a story regarding the Overseas Santorini tanker in recent days, in which she sought to restock supplies and fuel on the Rock. In the end the vessel did not make port or refuel, but did receive food and other provisions from local companies. We reflect on the challenges that the news team have faced in covering the story.

Five years since it's inaugural party, the final 'Que Pasa' event was held at the Europa Sports Arena on Saturday night. It featured a range of DJ's - both local and international - and according to the organisers it went smoothly. Nonetheless, organisers Jestin Benyunes and Jonathan Collado say it has become unsustainable to keep the festival going in future.

And, we look ahead to some great live music happening tomorrow. Local band Cedar will be performing, alongside Guy Valarino & The Gentlemen in Ocean Village. We spoke to Daryll Pallas, who plays the drums for Cedar, as well as singer Guy Valarino.

The Overseas Santorini has left Gibraltar waters without refuelling. It follows controversy on whether the tanker should be refused entry as it carried military fuel for Israeli fighter jets. The Overseas Santorini had arranged with local companies to receive a few palettes of supplies, including food. We spoke to our news editor Christine Vasquez.

SUPAbility is a new chartity doing great work with young people. They offer stand up paddle facilities to those with physical disability, or those with mental struggles with anxiety or similar conditions.   Ben Hassan from the charity told us more.

Beachgoers Christine Sene and Dawn Francis told us what they love about Sandy Bay, but also what can be improved, particularly regarding parking and ball games disrupting bathers.

And, with Sandy Bay being such a popular spot for stand-up paddle it’s also a great base to explore some of the nearby caves. Former Transport Minister Paul Balban is part of the community of regular SUP boarders, who go out often in the mornings and has had some great encounters with marine life.

A tanker reportedly carrying fuel for Israeli fighter jets could be calling at Gibraltar as soon as tomorrow. Number Six has confirmed to GBC that the Captain of the Port is considering a request for bunkering from the Overseas Santorini. A number of UK MPs, including former Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn, have called on the Governor, Chief Minister, and UK Foreign Secretary to prevent the tanker from using Gibraltar's facilities. We spoke to our News Editor Christine Vasquez

Over the last few years or so, you'll have noticed several grey Rock-shaped barriers along Main Street and Irish Town. Their primary purpose is the safety of pedestrians, but recently the government announced a street art project to bring them to life. Local artist Kyranne Lia was chosen to take up the task, and since she began painting last week there has already been a lot of positive feedback.

But there's a twist....you'd be sitting down in a wheelchair! Wouldn't be easy. But would definitely be good fun. Benji Borrastero of Para Sports Gibraltar told us more.

 Erica McGrail won Best Performance at the 2024 UK’s National Drama Festival for her interpretation of Isobel in ‘Bull’ with Theatre Makers. ‘Bull’ was first performed at this year’s Gibraltar International Drama Festival, winning first prize. We caught up with Erica in the studio after returning home from the festival.

Summer is a time for rest, travel and new experiences. Bust just how important is it to switch off every now and then? News Editor Christine Vasquez has been on leave and shared her perspective on how some time off gave her a fresh view on reporting.

We spoke to our sports reporter Jose Mari Ruiz about the latest news from UEFA, who have fined Shelbourne FC over €21,000 for fans’ conduct during their match against St Josephs at the Europa Point Stadium on the 18th of July. Fans were heard chanting “Gibraltar es Español” with UEFA also noting that plastic cups were thrown from the away section during a brawl late in the game.

And, this year’s Heritage Awards have been announced. Recognising outstanding sensitivity or contribution to Gibraltar’s heritage, the awards have been presented since 1993. Past winners range from homes and workplaces to documentaries and the preservation of memorabilia. We spoke to Rebecca Fa of the Heritage Trust about the Awards.

With the uncertainty at the Frontier at the moment, we heard first hand experience of a British citizen, resident in Gibraltar, who recently had an issue crossing the border into Spain. And her passport now carries a new stamp - one that says she can’t cross into Spain now for three months! Christina Davies was on her way to a dental appointment in La Linea, when things started getting complicated.

Last night’s football second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League saw Magpies go up against Danish giants FC Copenhagen. Our Sports Reporter Jose Mari Ruiz was at the game. He also spoke to us about basketball, as the Chus Mateo summer camp has been in full swing this week.

The wait is finally over! This evening, the eyes of the world will be on Paris for the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games. The French capital's population is expecting to more than double over the next couple of weeks, with 15 million visitors expected. But what's it like to be an athlete? what does it take? and how does it feel? We spoke to is Gibraltar's one and only Olympic athlete - Georgina Cassar - who represented Team GB in Rhythmic Gymnastics at London 2012.

And, for the latest edition of our new Llanitos Abroad" feature on the podcast, we spoke to Gabriella Sardeña from Stockholm, Sweden. She’s following her dreams and works for 'Totême' - a major brand in the fashion industry .

The Government has not had any confirmation from Spain as to whether or not bridging measures for red ID card holders will continue once the new electronic frontier system is in place. Asked by GBC, Number Six said the only information available to the Government at this time is what it said in the Technical Notice issued this week. That notice said Spain and Schengen authorities are obliged to treat Gibraltarians as third-party nationals. This means, should the bridging measures not be extended, the full effect of a hard Brexit could become a reality for the first time for many Gibraltarians this November. Our reporter Christina Cortes told us more.

And, today is World Drowning Prevention Day. Every year on this day the World Health Organisation raises awareness of drowning as a public health issue. They estimate that 2.5 million people have lost their lives to drowning over the past decade. We spoke to GASA swimming coach Damina Chang-Chipolina and Norbert Sene of the Royal Life-Saving Society.
