What lessons have been learned from the Grenfell tragedy? The Fire Industry Association has grown to become Europe’s largest fire protection trade association, with over 1,200 members. Tomorrow, the Sunborn Hotel will be the venue for their annual Fire Safety Summit. The main aim is to enhance competency and promote education within the fire safety sector. We invited the FIA's Chief Executive Officer Ian Moore and Sir Ken Knight, a retired British fire-fighter and public servant, into the studio.

It’s mental health awareness week. GBC's Nicole Byrne has been involved in an initiative to brighten people's days with small plants. With the help of Greenarc, a support station was set up inviting colleagues to spend some meaningful time with each other, and leave a kind message in exchange for a small succulent.

And, Daria Bogacka is a passionate mother, yogini, life coach, and traveller... for nearly 30 years Daria lived with Bulimia. Bulimia is an eating disorder in which a person has regular episodes of eating a very large amount of food (bingeing) during which the person feels a loss of control over their eating. The person then uses different purging methods to prevent weight gain. This evening, she will be speaking at the Gibraltar Yoga Centre on "Holistic Healing of Eating Disorders".

The Chief Minister has insisted “we will get there” on a treaty. Speaking to Times Radio this morning, Fabian Picardo re-stated sovereignty was not on the table in discussions. He said the comments by Jose Manuel Albares to the BBC were “not worrying at all”, as they refer to the fluidity of trade and immigration across the frontier between Gibraltar and Spain. 

The trial of Kijani Liquidators v NatWest Bank in Gibraltar has come to an abrupt end after the parties reached an agreement. The proceedings had been expected to last four weeks, with Liquidators Edgar Lavarello and Simon Conway of PWC suing the bank over its alleged role in the dissipation of USD100m of investor funds, which were funnelled through accounts at NatWest, before being transferred out to a subsidiary in Ghana. The details will remain confidential. Ros Astengo told us more.

The Menopause Exchange – Gibraltar’s First Free Drop-In Menopause Conversation is happening tomorrow. Petra Boddington from Menopause with Petra will be inviting questions can ask questions, check your symptoms, and chat all things menopause in a relaxed, supportive way. 

The deadline is fast approaching: the Citizen's Advice Bureau is inviting you to nominate an outstanding individual for volunteer of the year 2025! They are looking to honour a volunteer that shows remarkable dedication, with this year’s theme being “Volunteers Make Waves”. Ivan Cruz and Charlene Lima from CAB told us more about the award.

And, Miriam Drury and Skyanne Hollands are both Zumba instructors, and are hosting an event later this week for the Cancer Research & 24hr Relay for Life. Workplaces and individuals are marking "Get Lippy" Day on Friday - a day to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers. UK charity the Eve Appeal asks people to get loud and talk about gynae health. The aim is to start conversations about what is often considered an 'awkward' thing to talk about. Francesca Makey has campaigned to 'Get Lippy' for years now, following her own experience of being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17. We spoke to her as well as Eloise Leto, a fellow survivor, and Dr. Olivia Gonzalez from the Women’s Health Clinic.

Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness week. The theme this year is "Community". For Childline, it’s an opportunity for the charity to raise awareness of children’s mental health. Jenny Olivero and Caroline Carter explained that young people often use their services for support for bullying, family issues or mental health concerns.

It’ll be a busy week for Clubhouse Gibraltar also, as they have organised a number of workshops to help people understand good mental health. We spoke to Gianna Da Costa, a staff member at Clubhouse Gibraltar, alongside Brandon Ainsworth and Veena Purswani, both service users of the charity.

There’s a new look for gbc.gi. The redesigned TV and Radio areas are now simpler to navigate. It’s a mobile-first design with enhanced accessibility. And, the news page also has a number of new features making it easier for you to follow the day’s stories and helping you stay informed. GBC’s CEO James Neish explained the motivation behind the redesign.

Habemus papam - the first American pope has been elected. 69 year old Chicago-born Robert Francis Prevost is the 267th leader of the Catholic Church. He has taken the papal name Leo XIV. On the Rock, the bells have been ringing at the Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned. Our News Editor Christine Vasquez spoke to Bishop Carmel Zammit, who met Robert Prevost in Rome last year.

A lack of continuity, failures in communication, and substandard care were among the concerns raised during a public meeting this week on domiciliary care services. With Lifecome Care’s contract terminated just seven months after it started, the Minister for Health and Care says a thorough overhaul of the service is under way. Iain Triay Clarence was there and thought it was worth doing long-form coverage in the form of a special Viewpoint programme last night.

Gibraltar Red Cross is holding its annual Flag Day today, joining Red Cross and Red Crescent societies around the world in a global day of fundraising and solidarity. Gibraltar Red Cross President, Lady Bathurst, said “this year’s Flag Day holds special significance, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe." We were joined in the studio by long-standing committee member Tessa Imossi, alongside Tim Bristow, the chairman of the Gib Red Cross.

Last month, the Gibraltar national team took part in the 2025 World Backgammon Team Championships in Greece. Teams from 25 nations from across the world descended on the Greek town of Phthiotis. Michael Pitaluga and Nadine Chipolina told us how the team got on.

And Louis Parral told us about what’s happening in sport this weekend, including darts and futsal, and also had a chat about the rise in popularity of racket sports on the Rock.

The Government claims there's been a notable improvement in the availability of GP appointments at the Primary Care Centre since reforms were introduced in February. Changes have included a dedicated sick note line and a new pre-appointment telephone call reminder system. There are still improvements to be made to reduce waiting times for an appointment, as the Health Minister Gemma Arias-Vasquez told our News Editor Christine Vasquez earlier today.

It’s Victory in Europe Day, and a number of activities and events are taking place to mark the occasion. Our producer Robin Sheppard-Capurro was at the newly renovated WWII tunnels with history enthusiast Peter Jackson MBE. We also listened to a song penned in Gibraltar celebrating world peace.

The Gibraltar Shore Jigging & Spinning Club has recently been formed and aims to promote outdoor activities in a safe and environmentally friendly way. They will be hosting regular competitions based on seasonal activities, involving different types of jigging and spinning techniques. Alfred Vasquez and Julian Delippiani told us how they hope to engage young people in the sport.

The Med Steps 5 Challenge has raised over £100,000 for Cancer Relief so far, supporting those affected by cancer and funding our essential services for patients and their families. It’s more than just a challenge, it’s a celebration of resilience, unity and encouragement. The event will be held 10th May and is open to everyone. We spoke to organiser Mark Cooper and Rowena Wallace from Cancer Relief.

And as part of their 60th anniversary celebrations the Photographic Society are putting together a number of workshops next week, for both members and the general public. Leslie Linares from the society talked us through the planned programme and what each session will entail.

The Chief Minister is in Madrid to continue talks for a future EU relationship treaty for Gibraltar. The Government says it remains firmly committed to reaching a treaty which is "safe, secure and beneficial for Gibraltar". Number Six says this contact between the different parties at all levels is expected to continue going forward.

It’s Dying Matters Awareness Week. People use this week to talk about death in whichever way they are comfortable. We had an in-depth chat with Cancer Relief’s Kate Howard and Alejandro Ocaña as well as service user Liz Conner, who has used the centre’s bereavement service and was supported during her husband’s illness and his passing.

General Sir Patrick Sanders is one of the British Army’s most senior and respected officers. He says the Regiment needs to be brought up to full strength in the context of the current geopolitical issues. Our reporter Jonathan Sacramento has spoken to Sir Sanders about his new role as Honorary Colonel of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.

In general, we spend more time with our co-workers than with our family. With that in mind, how happy are you from 9-5? Tomorrow, a group of speakers will assemble at the Sunborn Hotel for a conference on 'Wellbeing at Work'. Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has said there’s been “substantial progress” in negotiations on Gibraltar’s post-Brexit relationship with the EU.Speaking before the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, he highlighted advances on the movement of people and goods, environmental cooperation, and taxation. Mr Albares stressed that Spain’s sovereignty claim over Gibraltar remains unaffected and reaffirmed the goal of creating a shared zone of prosperity, particularly for the neighbouring Campo de Gibraltar.

Fr Hayden Williams is a well-known preacher, who travels the world preaching the Gospel, will be in Gibraltar this weekend. He wanted to become a doctor but during a Charismatic Conference on the 10th April 1994 on Divine Mercy Sunday he felt Jesus calling out to him to become a priest and he did. Margaret Lombard and Mark Porral explained how this visit from Father Hayden came together.

Spring is a feast of blossom! The Gibraltar Horticultural Society's annual Spring Flower Show begins today. Annabelle Codali forms part of the judging panel, and Christine Ferrary is a contestant. They both joined us in the studio.

It's a family affair this weekend. A fundraiser for Cancer Research UK and what better way to raise money than by selling cakes! Lauren Reyes and Brenda Ocaña are part of the fundraising team.

This year sees the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, with countries around the world marking the anniversary with different events. Loads to look forward to here on the rock as we commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War II. Minister for Culture Christian Santos joined us in the studio to whet the appetite.

Sticking with sports, this coming weekend James Perera and Tom Appleton will become the first Gibraltarians ever to compete in Weightlifting in Spain. We asked James Perera how he’s feeling ahead of el Campeonato de Andalucia.

And, in a world full of tensions and disagreements, one thing that unites all is football. That was evident recently as local charity Rifcom held an annual tournament in Chefchaouen high in the Rif mountains. We spoke to Gemma Podesta and Tom Cawthorn from RifCom.
