The Podcast where Judy & Harper talk about design, tech, diversity, and the entry-level experience.
Episode 2: With special guest, Kyla Oyamot!
Today we're joined by the lovely Kyla Oyamot, tattoo artist turned UX Engineer.
Originally from Hawaii, Kyla's diverse background has driven her to the UX field where she plans to "make waves" by exuding positive vibes and an exemplary mindset.
After receiving her BFA in Media Arts and Animation from The Art Institute of Seattle in 2007, Kyla began working as a TSA Officer in Hawaii, California, and Las Vegas (gotta pay the bills somehow!). In 2010, Kyla began an apprenticeship at a local tattoo shop, and went on to tattoo full time in 2015. After the physical repercussions of tattooing began to take a toll on her body, Kyla knew she needed to find a more sustainable career, which is how she came to UX. In 2019 she enrolled in Lambda School's User Experience Design course, and has never looked back!
To further her knowledge and understanding of the field, she also studying to be a full-stack web developer.

*Disclaimer: Like most people who have used Zoom, we experience technical difficulties from time to time. One of those times was today 😬
We contemplated stopping the recording and started over, or just editing that portion out. But ultimately, we decided to leave it as is. We're here to share our experiences, and for better or for worse: technical difficulties, laggy internet, people being muted, pets in the background, etc are all common occurrences. We're just trying to keep it real 😅
Special thanks to MLEMON for our theme song! They're great! Go give them a listen.
