UPDATE: Today's school shooting in Nashville, TN., brings children under 11 years old to SIXTY  (60) child deaths by gun violence. President Biden called on Congress to pass the Assault Weapons Ban and other gun safety reforms. 

There have been 117 Mass shootings in the United States this year. At this moment, there have been 9,488 Gun Violence Deaths in 2023. And it's not even April yet. 

If you wait just a couple of hours, these numbers increase. The statistics are even more heartbreaking when you look at the number of children under 18 who are being killed by people shooting guns. Some of those deaths are the result of children killing other children. 

So far this year, 385 Americans under 18 have died from gunshot wounds. 

Five years ago, a group of GenZ's had had enough. They established the "March for Our Lives" Organization. Their goal is to lobby for common sent gun safety laws. It's way past time for all of us to support them and that goal.

Trump's Crisis Communications? Call Out The Mob? Once again, the twice-impeached ex-president has called on his supporters to Protest! Protest! Protest!

This form of Crisis Communication has worked for Trump in the past. He used it on January 6, resulting in a disaster for the country. And he is trying to use it again. Let's hope we are smarter this time.

The Stormy Daniels Donald Trump case involves a porn star, hush money, a one-time Trump Legal Fixer, and allegations of Campaign Finance Violations. It began in 2006 at a Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe and may end in a criminal court in New York City. It's up to a Manhattan Grand Jury that is hearing testimony today from that former Fixer, Michael Cohen.

There are about two dozen civil and criminal investigations or lawsuits involving the twice-impeached, disgraced ex-president Donald Trump. They include allegations of illegal financial dealings, the unsavory quest for political power that sparked a deadly Insurrection, bribery, the theft of classified documents, pay-offs, slander, and lies.  

One case involves a former porn star named Stormy Daniels and backroom deals and hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep her a secret.

But as anybody who has covered politics knows,  the "other woman" never remains a secret.

With a war in Ukraine, the poisoning of girls in Iran, the death of two Americans traveling to Mexico for a medical procedure, and the never-ending gun violence gripping our country, I think we still have work to do.

In March of 2021, Dominion Voting Systems filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News Network.

This is from that $1.6 Billion lawsuit.

"Dominion contends that: (i) Fox intentionally provided a platform for guests that Fox’s hosts knew would make false and defamatory statements of fact on the air; (ii) Fox, through Fox’s hosts, affirmed, endorsed, repeated, and agreed with those guests’ statements; and (iii) Fox republished those defamatory and false statements of fact on the air, Fox’s websites, Fox’s social media accounts, and Fox’s other digital platforms and subscription services. Dominion seeks punitive and economic damages for defamation per se."

At the center of this lawsuit is the "Big Lie." Even though there was no evidence of voter fraud or faulty voting machines, Trump supporters, including Fox News, repeated the lie again and again. 

Dominion attempted to set the record straight, but Fox continued the lie. This caused Dominion to lose millions of dollars in business, damaged its reputation, and resulted in death threats.

The First Amendment, Freedom of the Press, protects News Corporations. The bar to prove that News organizations commit defamation or slander is very high. It was set with a Supreme Court Ruling, "The New York Times v. Sullivan." 

Dominion lawyers must prove that Fox News acted with Malice in this lawsuit. Some; legal experts are predicting Dominion could win. 

The United States Supreme Court heard two cases on The Biden Administrations Student Loan Forgiveness Program this week.

Biden Versus Nebraska ET. AL and The Department of Education v. Myra Brown. ET AL.

At stake: $400 billion in student debt set to be forgiven by President Biden’s Department of Education. Up to 40 million Americans could see up to 20 thousand dollars of student loans canceled.

But some Republican-Controlled States and two individuals filed lawsuits to stop the Department of Education from moving forward.

President Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023.

This visit also happened to be Presidents’ Day in America.

We celebrate two of our former Presidents in February. 

It was ironic and fitting to see two Presidents meeting in a country, Ukraine, that has been ravaged by war.

I was a young reporter covering the California Delegation for Cox Broadcasting. She was a young Congresswoman from San Francisco.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi went on to become the most powerful woman in Congress, but she remained the same strong, outspoken warrior for Civil Rights and Women's Rights that I first met decades ago.

Franklin Roosevelt did it. So did Bill Clinton and George W.Bush. Some historians may disagree with me, but John Kennedy did it too.

And now add President Biden to this list. He's beat the Midterm curse. We still need to see what happens in the House. But we can be sure there was no Red Wave from Republicans in this Midterm Election. 

Democrats keep control of the United States Senate. And they may keep the House of Representatives as well. 

Whatever happens, when all the votes are counted, President Joe Biden's first midterm election has put him in the history books. He wins. And so do DEMOCRACY!
