Have you ever ignored your GPS, sure you knew a better way — only to hit the traffic jam it was trying to steer you around? In this episode of the Glorify & Grow podcast, Pastor Thomas Kulp of Horizon Church in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, uses that everyday experience to unpack one of the most important choices in the Christian life: obey or disobey.
Working through Paul's teaching in Romans on faith, justification, and the law, Pastor Thomas reminds us that God doesn't push us into sin — but He does redeem our wrong turns and work all things for good. Using the picture of an old Rand McNally road atlas and the AAA TripTik with its orange-highlighted route, he shows how God's Word is the map that makes the way clear, and how the Holy Spirit — not a building or a program — is the fuel that keeps us going.
The big shift in this message: following God isn't a single fork in the road each morning. It's a series of decisions all day long, and God places wise people around us to help us read the map when we don't understand it.
In this episode:
– Why glorifying God is about the choices we make, not earning righteousness
– The GPS lesson: what happens when we ignore God's guidance
– God's Word as your map, the Holy Spirit as your fuel
– Not one fork a day, but decisions all day long
– John 14:15 — "If you love me, you will obey me"
Key verse: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5)

Before we open Romans 7, Pastor Thomas Kulp shares something personal. In this episode of the Glorify & Grow podcast, he tells the story of how God finally answered a long-surrendered prayer for a worship leader — and a childhood memory of a German Shepherd, 500 stitches, and the day "The Old Rugged Cross" opened his eyes at his great-grandmother's funeral.
From a grandmother whose restaurant signs simply read "just believe," Pastor Thomas sets up what he calls one of the most practical, emotionally charged chapters in all of Paul's writing — Romans 7 — and boils the message down to three words: obey or disobey.
If you've ever given your life to Jesus and still found yourself fighting the same battle, this is the honest, real-life lead-in to a chapter that speaks straight to it.
In this episode:
• A "God thing" — the answered prayer for a worship team
• Why "just believe" planted the first seeds of faith
• Reading Romans in its Jewish context — law, works, and grace
• The three-word heart of Romans 7: obey or disobey

Why do we still struggle to obey God even after giving our life to Christ? Pastor Thomas Kulp opens Romans 7 with one of the most honest, practical messages in the whole series: obey or disobey.
Before diving into Paul's words, Pastor Thomas shares a personal story of surviving a childhood dog attack, the "Just Believe" sign his grandmother kept in her restaurant, and how he almost stopped praying for a worship leader right before Cindy walked into Horizon Church. From there, he unpacks why Romans 7 is written in a Jewish, works-based context, and what that means for the daily tension every believer feels between what we want to do and what we actually do.
In this episode: the emotional weight of Romans 7, why Paul's writing hits differently once you understand its audience, and a simple three-word summary of the whole message: obey or disobey.

There was a hole, and everything you poured into it disappeared. Like filling a hole with sand and then pouring water on it.
In this episode, Pastor Thomas Kulp tells the story of coming to Christ the way you'd tell the story of the American Revolution. A people ruled by a distant power. Taxes on sin nobody could afford to pay. Valley Forge winters where defeat felt inevitable. Chains loose enough that you could run a while before they bit into you. And then someone shows up and tells you about a new nation you could belong to.
He gets to the part most of us skip: the colonies knew they couldn't win alone, and neither can you. Making Jesus your Savior is where it starts. Making Him your Lord is where the worry stops. And restoration isn't a one-time transaction. Every time you trip, He comes back and guides you again.

Pastor Thomas Kulp closes out his mini-series comparing America's fight for independence to the freedom we have in Christ. He opens with a challenge: can you sit still for five minutes and think about nothing but God? Then he shares a personal story about how his wife Sherry has taught him what God's unconditional love really looks like — plus a childhood story about an elephant afraid of a mouse that shows how fear can turn a molehill into a mountain in our minds.
From there, Thomas draws the parallel between "no taxation without representation" and our own resistance to fully surrendering to God — and reminds us that just like the Declaration of Independence freed a nation from tyranny, Jesus Christ freed us from the tyranny of sin, giving us the Holy Spirit as our advocate. This isn't a "say a prayer and you're done" faith — it's a daily battle, and today's message is about learning to walk through it with God instead of running from it.

You've declared your faith in Jesus — but have you ratified your articles of freedom? In this episode of the Glorify & Grow podcast, Pastor Thomas Kulp of Horizon Church in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, brings his freedom series to a close by unpacking what it actually looks like to live out the freedom Christ purchased for you.
Using the founding of America as a backdrop, Pastor Thomas walks through the areas every believer needs to settle: authority (who is really in control of your life?), freedom (Jesus died to free you from all sin, not just some), and your rights as a child of God. You'll be reminded that America's freedoms were secured by sacrifice on a battlefield — but our spiritual freedoms were secured by Christ's sacrifice on the cross.
The heart of this message is a list of seven spiritual privileges that can never be taken away — because unlike earthly laws that can be amended and governments that can fall, nothing in all creation can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
In this episode:
– Authority: who's really in control — you, your circumstances, or Christ?
– Freedom: declaring freedom from all sin (John 8:36)
– Your rights as a Christian — seven spiritual privileges that can't be revoked
– Why God's Word never changes, even when laws and nations do
– America's freedom vs. the eternal freedom secured by Christ
Key verse: "Sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace." (Romans 6:14)

What does true freedom in Christ actually look like — and why isn't declaring it enough? In this episode of the Glorify & Grow podcast, Pastor Thomas Kulp of Horizon Church in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, unpacks the difference between claiming your freedom in Jesus and actually living it out.
Drawing on the story of America's founding and Romans chapter 6, Pastor Thomas shows how the early colonists didn't stop at the Declaration of Independence — they wrote a constitution to live out that freedom. In the same way, many Christians have declared Jesus as Lord but have never written their own "articles of freedom." This message is a loving call to close that gap.
Along the way you'll hear a powerful illustration about a wealthy father, a painting of his beloved son, and the truth that "whoever gets the Son gets the fortune" — a picture of God's grace and the inheritance we receive through Christ. Pastor Thomas also revisits the archery-target analogy for sin, reflects on Abraham Lincoln's faith, and reminds us that real freedom comes from aligning our lives with Jesus, the only perfect union.
In this episode:
– Why sin is like an archery target, and how grace covers us as we learn
– The rich man, the painting, and the inheritance of the Son
– From the law to grace: understanding our freedom in Romans 6
– "Articles of freedom" — moving from declaration to daily living
– Abraham Lincoln, the founding of America, and forming a more perfect union in Christ
Key verse: "He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion on the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6)

Sin no longer owns you. In this episode of Glorify & Grow, Pastor Thomas Kulp of Horizon Church (Bosque Farms, NM) unpacks Romans 6 and the truth that Christ's resurrection didn't just prove He is God — it broke sin's reign for good. Just as the Declaration of Independence was followed by years of battle, our declaration of faith launches a daily fight to live in the freedom we already have.
Pastor Thomas explains why so many Christians "live as prisoners after the prison door has been opened," how sin can tempt and fight you but no longer has dominion, and how to declare your freedom in Christ every single morning. He closes with three questions worth sitting with: Have you received Christ's declaration of freedom? Are you still living like a slave to the old master? And what sin are you allowing to reign that Christ has already defeated?

Declared free — but are you living like it? In this Independence Day–inspired message, Pastor Thomas Kulp of Horizon Church (Bosque Farms, New Mexico) unpacks what it really means to make your own Declaration of Freedom in Christ. Just as the colonies didn't negotiate with the king but declared independence, followers of Jesus can tell sin and Satan: "I am no longer subject to you."
Pastor Thomas gets honest about the trap so many Christians fall into — wanting the salvation of Jesus while still wanting to live life their own way. Through stories about fireworks stands on the Pennsylvania–Maryland line, Frank Sinatra's "My Way," and the messy history that followed 1776, he reminds us that freedom was declared in an instant but freedom is lived out over time.
The heart of the episode: Salvation is not Jesus helping us become slightly better people. Salvation is Jesus allowing us to become new people altogether. You are a work in progress — keep doing the work, because you can do all things through Christ.
Key themes: Christian identity, freedom from sin, salvation and grace, discipleship, and doing it God's way instead of your own.

Using a memorable archery illustration and the story behind July 4th, 1776, Pastor Thomas shows why signing the "declaration" to follow Christ doesn't end the war — it starts it. If your battles intensified after you came to faith, this message explains why, and points you to the victory Jesus already won.
In this episode:
• Why the resurrection is "heaven's Declaration of Independence" for every believer
• Romans 6:14 — sin shall no longer be your master
• The difference between being rescued and being set free
• Why spiritual attacks often increase after you follow Jesus
• What it means that your old self — and your old record — is dead and expunged
"Jesus came not just to rescue us, but to free us."
