  • 128: Between the Sticks #70
Oh dear. The near post debate is back.

In addition to examining Marcus Rashford's opener for Manchester United against Newcastle and Karl Darlow, we also focus on Paul Scholes' quite inexplicable analysis of David de Gea's performance in the same game.

Special mention for Dillon Phillips and his two penalty saves as Cardiff beat Preston, Jojo Wollacott making a winning return on loan at Swindon and David Stockdale, recalled by Wycombe to keep Millwall at bay and offer thoughts via Text Talk.

Oh, and Jordan Pickford. Well played, son.

Alisson returned to clean sheet ways with the 50th shutout of his Liverpool career in the Champions League first-leg victory over Leipzig.

We run the tule over the key European action in addition to the customary Championship rundown and EFL best of the rest.

On a  positive side, splendid saves from Sam Johnstone and Kasper Schmeichel kick things off, with yet another mention of Emi Martinez and his nine saves at Brighton. He's never made more in a Premier League game.

We also look a little closer at the part Alisson played in Liverpool's defeat at Leicester, in addition to Jamie Redknapp's comments that Hugo Lloris is currently in the midst of "having a nightmare".

The BT Sport crew yet again going above and beyond with some rather misinformed punditry during Everton's FA Cup Fifth Round triumph over Tottenham on Wednesday evening. Regrettably, we commence with Commentary Corner in this episode.

In fact, in terms of goalkeeping talking points the action has been more focused on games in League One and League Two this week. A stop apiece from Jack Stevens and Joe Day in Oxford's win at Bristol Rovers are well worth a look.

Quite the monumental weekend of goalkeeping ensued with two of the highest-profile stoppers in world football nabbing the headlines.

David de Gea and Alisson both came in for a healthy amount of criticism as a result of their performances against Everton and Manchester City respectively. As always, we shall pick the bones out of the incident and, also as always, do our best to offer an objective and reasoned opinion.

Plenty of action elsewhere in the EFL is followed with a well-deserved doff of the cap to seven-time Super Bowl winner, Tom Brady.

From another solid Aaron Ramsdale showing to late cross collectors such as David Raya and Robert Sanchez, here is all the key action and reaction in the world of goalkeeping this week.

    Commentary Corner: Curtis Davies
Keeper Capers: Samir Handanovic and Handball World Championships

All the customary goalkeeping goodness, with reaction from the Premier League and the EFL.

Jordan Pickford takes centre stage (of course he does) as we analyse Everton's defeat to Newcastle, while Ellery Balcombe's double penalty save provided three points for Doncaster at Lincoln.

Aerial challenges on goalkeepers were the main talking point from the midweek games across the Premier League and EFL.

Rich runs the rule on one given and one not in Manchester United's defeat to Sheffield United, along with a happier Aaron Ramsdale and the spotlight once more on Jordan Pickford.

Taking priority this Monday is the fact Rich has almost waved the white flag regarding Troy Deeney's penalty expertise, plus the ongoing Newcastle No1 debate with Martin Dubravka hot on the heels of Karl Darlow at St James' Park.

Kepa comes up (of course he does) in an FA Cup Fourth Round review which includes a solid showing from Cheltenham' loanee Josh Griffiths against Manchester City and a long-awaited return for Christian Walton at Brighton.

There's also a bumper Best of the Rest from the EFL, in addition to those favourite franchises of 'Keeper Capers and Rate My Save.
