Of the gifts, the Apostle Paul said, "I do not want you to be uninformed." This is a call to distinguish between what is true and of the Spirit, and what is false. How do we do this? We must discern between those practices that honor Christ verses those that malign or undermine Him. The Spirit exercises the gifts through the Believer, and the Believer manifests the Spirit through the gifts.
