Alex looks back at the latest from the world of German football: Bayern drop their first points of the season after an inspired performance from Yann Sommer to give Gladbach a point, Union produce the biggest attack against xG by losing the expected battle against Schalke whilst winning 6-1, and Bayer Leverkusen get up and running with a dominant first half against Mainz. Meanwhile, Kaiserslautern and Magdeburg play out an unexpected 4-4 draw, Stefan Leitl wins against his fomer employers, and two goals in added time leads to a draw between St. Pauli and Paderborn. Also on the pod, more slapstick defending in the second tier, Werder and Frankfurt's thriller, and the worst kit in Germany for the 2022/23 season.

Alex looks back at an action packed week from Germany: Borussia Dortmund manage the impossible in blowing an 88th minute 2-0 lead against Werder Bremen to lose 3-2, Bayer Leverkusen continue their implosion by losing 3-0 at home to Hoffenheim, and Leipzig prove that they're unaware of the counter-attack in a 2-1 loss to Union Berlin. That all helps Bayern essentially secure the Bundesliga title for another season, as they beat Bochum 7-0 away. Also on the pod: Paderborn score seven of their own against Holstein Kiel, Jahn Regensburg start their collapse early, 1860 Munich make the best start to the 3. Liga season, and Kit Clash continues with the Bundesliga qualifying heat.
After the scenes in Rostock this weekend, Going Deutsch would like to reiterate the need to smash facism, xenophobia, racism, and all forms of discrimination from people who are determined to make the world a worse place.

Bundesliga after a 1-0 win against Kaiserslautern, and Bielefeld remain pointless after defeat to Hamburg, whilst Elversberg smack another team for five in the 3. Liga and 1860 Munich remain perfect. Also on the pod: Werner returns to Leipzig, Rostock's Markus Kolke has a lapse of concentration, the 2. Bundesliga round of Kit Clash, and Alex accidentally supports Gladbach whilst being envious of ice cream in the Mainz Union game.

Alex looks back at the best from the opening round of the Bundesliga, matchday 3 in the 2. Bundesliga, and matchday 2 in the 3. Liga: Bayern demolish Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 in the opening game of the season, if only Frankfurt had been told it was a Europa League game, Kaiserslautern are the surprise packages of the 2. Bundesliga as they beat St. Pauli to go second, meanwhile worry grows around Greuther Fürth and Arminia Bielefeld as the relegated sides continue to struggle, and Elversberg stop being the most dominant team in Germany after a loss to Saarbrücken in the 3. Liga. Also on the pod: weird storylines in the Augsburg vs Freiburg game, the 3. Liga round of Kit Clash, and the game in the 2. Bundesliga that saw a player go on an upside down piggyback ride.

Alex reviews the second matchday from the 2. Bundesliga, the first matchday from the 3. Liga, and the opening round of the DFB Pokal: Elversberg turn out to be the best team in Germany after storming to the top of the 3. Liga table thanks to a 5-1 win away at Essen, before beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-3 in the DFB Pokal, St. Pauli endure another tough opening round but use their 10-men to beat fourth tier SV Straelen, whilst Hertha Berlin and Köln are other Bundesliga clubs who met their demise at the hands of lower league opposition. Also on the pod: Bielefeld finally do something, Paderborn get double digits, and Mannheim knock out another club from a higher league.

Alex looks back at the inaugural Tour de France Femmes and what made the race so fun to watch in its first ever week. There's reviews of all stages: including Lorena Wiebes winning the opening stage on the Champs-Élysées, Marianne Vos winning two stages to further mark her legacy, and Annemiek van Vleuten's two wins to make her the first ever winner of the maillot jaune in the race's history. Also on the pod: Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig's emotional interview after stage 3, Mavi Garcia's own team car crashing into her, and the number of bike changes the yellow jersey needed on the last stage of the Tour.

Alex reviews the 2022 edition of the Tour de France in less depth than he wanted thanks to everything going wrong, except the racing itself in what might have been the best Tour in decades. Jonas Vingegaard is the new champion after doing the impossible in beating two-time champ Tadej Pogačar, Wout van Vert completely dominates in the green jersey competition, and Simon Geschke suffers late heartbreak in the King of the Mountains battle. In the pod, all the stages that mattered: including a lengthy look at Denmark and Magnus Cort, stage 5's cobbles, stage 11's monumental shift in cycling, and stage 18's handshake moment. Also on the pod: G's gilet, a breakaway on stage 21, and the only thing that actually mattered, A TOM PIDCOCK WIN ON ALPE D'HUEZ!!!

Alex looks ahead to the 2022 Tour de France, and all the excitement that the next three weeks of racing will bring. Tadej Pogačar looks to win his third straight Tour whilst Primož Roglič, Jonas Vingegaard, and others look to stop him. We start in the most northly location in Tour history, as the race starts in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, before traveling back to France for some grueling stages, with visits to Switzerland and Belgium just for fun. There's nods to the infamous 1986 Tour, an 18km bridge, and hors catégorie climbs that look beyond terrifying.
This episode is dedicated to Richard Moore, who passed away earlier in the year age 48. My love of cycling wouldn't be as strong without him. Rest in Peace.
