  • Going Deutsch: 7.7 Goals Per Game

On the final Going Deutsch of 2022: Borussia Dortmund continue to slide with no defending in their 4-2 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach, Freiburg surprise again by beating Union Berlin 4-1, and Bayer and Bochum both continue their revivals with wins over Stuttgart and Augsburg respectively. Lower down, there are 23 goals in the three Saturday afternoon games in the 2. Bundesliga: as Heidenheim beat Jahn Regensburg 5-4, Hamburger beat Sandhausen 4-2, and Karlsruher and St. Pauli draw 4-4. Also on the pod: the worst miss of the Bundesliga season so far, the worst backpass of the 2. Bundesliga season, and Nürnberg's special kit against Paderborn.

With more negative stories by the day, Going Deutsch would like to once again urge fans to boycott the Qatar World Cup, which will be looked back on in history as one of the biggest disgraces in the sport's history. The Frauen Bundesliga and lower league football from around the world (as well as literally anything else) are much better options for you to watch.

  • Going Deutsch: Gotta Go Fast

On this week's episode: Bayer Leverkusen feel the need, the need for speed as they shock German football by beating Union Berlin 5-0, Bayern return to the top of the league after a 3-2 win away at Hertha, Freiburg move into second after beating Köln, and there are goalkeeping blunders for Union, Bochum, and Mainz in their defeats. Lower down the leagues: Darmstadt's undefeated run is up to 16 after beating Hannover, Paderborn completely fail to show up in a defeat to Heidenheim, and Elversberg find themselves six points clear at the top of the 3. Liga after their win was coupled with an 1860 defeat. Also on the pod: a recap of German teams in Europe, comedy own goals in the 2. Bundesliga, and the best teams to play as on Football Manager 23, which came out today.

Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of the Eintracht Braunschweig fan who passed away during their game against Greuther Fürth. Rest in Peace.

In the lower leagues, HSV are worryingly good after a 3-2 win away at Paderborn, St. Pauli once again miss a million great chances, but score one to get a draw against top of the league Darmstadt, and in the 3. Liga, the bottom two in the league get a win and a draw against the top two. Also on the pod, Leverkusen's attempt to mark a free kick, how Köln performed on 48 hours rest, and the best tifo in Germany so far this season.

  • Going Deutsch: Ban the Second Half

Alex looks back at the latest weekend of German football: Union Berlin retain top spot in the Bundesliga despite a shock loss to then bottom of the league Bochum, Borussia Dortmund finally put in a good performance in a 5-0 win against Stuttgart, and red cards cost Augsburg all three points against Leipzig and Köln any chance of a competitive game against Mainz. In the Zweite, Magdeburg stun Hamburger as the latter lose their second straight game, Steven Skrzybski continues to be the best player in the league after Kiel's 1-1 draw with Darmstadt, and St. Pauli fail to capitalise on chances as Arminia Bielefeld rise from bottom of the league. Also on the pod: a broken spidercam, who the elder statesmen of the BVB locker room are, and why the second half needs to be banned in the top flight.

Alex looks back at another great weekend of German football with the key event being St. Pauli once again winning the Hamburg Derby over rivals HSV. In the Bundesliga: Gregor Kobel blunders in his first game back as Union go four points clear at the top after beating Dortmund 2-0, Xabi Alonso gets his 'welcome to the Bundesliga' moment as his Leverkusen are demolished by Eintracht Frankfurt, and Frank Kramer edges closer to the door after a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Hoffenheim. In the 2. Bundesliga, Darmstadt use HSV's loss to go to the top, Paderborn move into second after a 3-0 win against Sandhausen, Braunschweig continue their good run of form with a 2-0 win away at Magdeburg.
