Welcome to a breaking audio update edition of the Good e-Reader Radio Show. Today Michael Kozlowski and Jeremy Greenfield talk about the hottest topic in self-publishing right now, the bulk deleting of erotica content from major eBook stores.
Over the weekend WH Smith has shut down their online bookstore and Waterstones have released statements on the removal of content. They all basically blame indie authors for putting their erotica titles side by side with children’s books, hampering eBook discovery and raising a firestorm.
Kobo has been cleaning up their bookstore by removing titles from publishers such as Draft2Digital and indie authors. All of these eBooks feature questionable covers and subject matter such as incest. Amazon and Barnes and Noble have yet to release official statements but they have also been cleaning up their catalog of digital books.
Are these major digital publishing companies just trying to mend the situation with deleting a few titles and getting their PR departments to deal with it? Erotica is big business and its highly dubious if they will start policing the genre. What can be done to stem the tide of highly provocative titles being listed side by side with genres that have nothing to do with it? Michael and Jeremy break it all down.

Welcome to another exciting edition of the Good e-Reader Radio Show. Today Michael Kozlowski talks to Mercy Pilkington who is live at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Today the two talk about the first day of CONTEC, which is a precursor to the main book fair, and focused on digital.
Today on the show Mercy and Michael talk about some of the digital publishing and eBook companies that had newsworthy days. Paperight won an innovation award and we talked to Tarryn-Anne Anderson, chief operating officer about her company. In essence it is a network of print-on-demand copy shops that print out and sell books quickly and legally.
A number of stalwart self-publishers gave talks on the first day, such as Hugh Howey, who encouraged young authors to get into fan-fiction, as a way to grow. He also mentioned that fan-fiction often gives the original books a second wind, as people might say “whats the deal with the Silo series?”
The Frankfurt Book Fair for the first year is being swarmed by indie authors, looking to make connections and to promote their books. Porter Anderson, Mercy Pilkington and Publishing Perspectives all give advice to authors going to the fair and what they can expect.
This is a jam packed show, with lots of insider information on what happened on the first day and previews on what is happening later on today. We will be live for the Tolino Shine 2 event happening at 10:30, now if we can only find where its happening, the guidebook doesn’t even say.

Welcome to a breaking news update edition of the Good e-Reader Radio Show! Today Michael Kozlowski of Good e-Reader and Jeremy Greenfield of Digital Book World talk about the three new Amazon Tablets announced today and updates to their operating system.
The three new Amazon tablets certainly do not reinvent the wheel but can be considered marginal updates to their product line. They all have higher resolution, more RAM, a better CPU and a slimmer profile. Aside from the hardware, which trounces most of the competition the real money is in the software. Amazon has updated their OS to one of the latest versions of Android, but have added a ton of new functionality.
Mayday is a new feature for the Kindle OS that guides new users through the common features the tablets have. If you have a kid, and want to learn about Freetime, you can learn all about it. If you need personalized tech support there are new abilities to talk with an agent. Another new update is for GoodReads, which will allow readers to participate in a proper eBook social website, leave reviews and discover new books to read.
This is a great edition of the show, where we lay down the most essential new features you need to know about. We also talk about some of the competition and how the new Kindle tablets compare to the iPad, Kobo 10 HD and others.

Welcome to another edition of the Good e-Reader Radio Show! Today we have Good e-Reader editor-in-chief Michael Kozlowski talking to Jeremy Greenfield of Digital Book World. They discuss the proposed Justice Department terms that would see Apple losing 30% royalties on eBooks and everything else. Initially, when the publishers settled with the courts, as part of the disbanded agency pricing model, they were told it would be two years before they could revisit this sales model. The DOJ is proposing that it be extended to five years, which is ruffling feathers.
In other news, Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, has purchased The Washington Post. Obviously, the newspaper industry is sagging right now and a fresh new direction could be in store very soon. The Washington Post is considered one of the most valued newspapers in America. Finally, Sony has launched pre-orders for eBooks and a bunch of new discovery engines, but is it just a gimmick?
