  • Good e-Reader Radio – Post BEA and IDPF Wrapup

Over the last week, the entire Good e-Reader staff was in New York for IDPF and Book Expo America. This is the first year our website was one of the major sponsors of the largest digital book event in the world and we talked to a number of major players in the industry. Today, we have a few audio interviews we did at the show where we spoke to Kobo and Overdrive about a myriad of issues.

This year was very light on news for Book Expo America. It seems now, more than ever, that companies are staging their own private events instead of using BEA as a platform to announce new products or services. Many of the startups in attendance did not have booths, but were pounding the floor, talking to the bigger companies. In this post show edition, I get into the major trends of the event and what we all took away.

  • Good e-Reader Radio Show – SID Display Week and IDPF Preview

Welcome back to another jaw-dropping edition of the Good e-Reader Radio show! Put the little ones to bed and hide your daughters. Today, I will regale you with tales of SID Display Week and some of the cool tech Peter and I saw. Mirasol display technology is, in fact, not dead, and the company has a new smartphone and watch. E Ink was showcasing a ton of goodies and was displaying the new Sony 13.3 inch e-reader.

Amazon was in the news today with Kindle Worlds, a new fan-fiction writing service that allows authors to actually earn a little bit of money. There was also a new report on Canadians and their ebook buying habits. Finally, IDPF and Book Expo America is right around the corner. Our entire team will be in New York for a week, getting all the news. We will be covering all the major sessions on EPUB3, HTMl5, Self-Publishing, Big Data, the future of the industry, and more! Being the main media sponsors has its advantage, as we have interviews with best selling author Sylvia Day, GoodReads CEO Otis Chandler, and many more prolific authors.

  • Good e-Reader Radio – B&N Nook Success, Smashwords Data, and Library News

Welcome to the weekend edition of the Good e-Reader Radio Show! Today, we talk in detail about all of the rumors surrounding Barnes and Noble. The company has seen great success with its price reduction in the UK and the US stocks surged on the news while Microsoft was offering one billion dollars for Nook Media. Also, Smashwords (the indie self-publishing darling) gave us some new data on ebook pricing, word count, and title info, so check it out. Finally, what does it take for 3M and Baker and Taylor to secure the rights for a big six publishing trial for ebooks in the library? I spent last week talking to the New York Public Library, 3M, Baker and Taylor, and others on what it takes to get from the idea stage to the physical roll-out. This is a great show if you want to know everything about ILS systems, digital library ebook lending, and more! Join in on the fun.

  • Good e-Reader Radio – Breaking Audio Update – Google Play on the Nook

Welcome to a breaking audio update from Good e-Reader! Lots of news in the last 48 hours! Barnes and Noble announced Google Play on the Nook HD and HD+.  This is huge news and I go into detail on the ramifications of this new development. Tool of Change has announced it has stopped running the annual convention. This is all very timely, as the company announced its new Atlas Publishing project. Did O'Reilly only start the digital publishing conference to get intelligence on what the industry needed and now that the company has the results, it killed something it no longer needed?

Of course, we look at the new Q10 that was just released and give you our thoughts on if its a viable investment. Also, we look at the hotel industry and how they are adopting tablets in bars, rooms, and everywhere in-between. This is a quick edition of the show and we will be back this weekend on the full week in review.
