Ignorance is bliss... they say. In the moment, it's nice not to know. It's nice not to know there are harmful chemicals in our food. It's nice not to know how not exercising regularly can increase our risk of cancer. It's nice not to know that bread, pasta, and sugar is causing early Alzheimer's.
I'm with you when I say, I'd rather not know that... but because I do, I've changed my behavior. I do something with the information and try my best to limit certain foods and make sure I do physical activity regularly.
What if I told you, you need to do the same thing with your phone?
Not a secret, right?
The minute I say that you know what I mean. You know what I mean because you feel it. You feel the guilt after you sat scrolling on your phone for too long. It feels similar to the guilt we feel after eating too much pizza and ice cream and fries and whatever else... consume consume consume until you are rolled over on the couch grabbing your stomach and regretting every decision you've made.
Our phones, our apps, and our social media triggers these feelings as well. For me, someone with mental health issues, I know it's happened when my behavior starts changing. My mood is unbalanced. I'm angry. I'm tired... but I haven't been exercising. I've just been on my phone a lot.
I recommend "The Great Hack" and "The Social Dilemma" today on the podcast. Both can be found on Netflix. They expose what is going on behind the scenes and why such great platforms like Facebook and Instagram remain "free" but they are not free.. nothing is free.
Everything comes at a cost.
