I just finished the book "Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art" by James Nestor.
This book has educated me on how taking time to have a conscious breathing practice can benefit aspects of my health. I truly believe this is why yoga helped me with my depression and anxiety. I had been meditating for years but I would sit and ruminate on my problems. Yoga was the first thing that gave me postures and my breath to focus on and it's improved my mental health drastically.
In the book, Nestor educates us on how the breath can help with chronic fatigue, headaches, sleep apnea, snoring, autoimmune diseases and more.

It starts around 4:40 if you want to fast forward in the future and don't need the reminder about breathing into the belly.
The technique I'm using is a simple 6 count through the nose and 6 counts out through the nose. You could also breath out through the mouth if you'd like just be sure to breathe in through the nose if possible.
